@@doodooman4026 no like an example of when you studied philosophy so much that you realized God is real? What was the turning point for you? Was there a moment where it all clicked or was it gradual? Is philosophy a hobby for you or did you major in it?

I wonder whether Alex will still look so fondly on those New Atheist works in a few more years. Definitely good fun for a teen discovering his atheism but wonder whether it really nourishes and enriches much beyond that.
As an atheist in my late 30's, these are still good reads. But I think it would be missing the point to say any of these books "nourish." It is almost like people are trying to say these books are suppose to replace holy books in atheist's life, and that is not true. For an atheist, it is up to them individual to find what "nourishes" and "enriches" their life. They may read more philosophical and science books to learn more about logic and how the world words...but that is not what is enriching life. It is all about experiences, and what you do with the one life you have.
The image of you taking philosophy college courses is kinda funny. Professors must LOVE having you in class /s. I would LOVE to take a class taught by you, but will have to settle for watching each and every RUclips video you make!

@Ahmed Hossam May Allah guide him. But I don't expect it sooner. Skeptic Atheists are hard to be revert as there's no rigorous proof of any religion. You can only compare religions on preservation and authenticity.
إن شاء الله he will be guided Also ofc there is proof, but ultra skepticism rejects a lot of the evidence, some people even reject their own evidence, which is self evident but i (personally) wouldn’t know what ‘proof’ to use against that. Doesn’t mean there is no proof of existence, ultra skepticism is basically like being too detached from the reality.
@@IshaaqNewton i had in the past somewhat struggled with it, I’m better now الحمد لله . Make dua and may Allah heal you. It’s a dangerous thing honestly and i think its only the result of being too detached from reality and other people. I’d say that just making dua, spending a lot of time with other people and in nature and just listening to the recitation of Quran is very helpful. (Try all that) In contrast pondering too much over philosophical arguments and isolating oneself from other people and spending more time on the phone than outside of it used to make it worse for me. And it may be not satisfactory for you to kinda stop looking too deep into philosophy, but honestly by continuing it’s just you engaging in every thought satan puts in your mind. There is the natural disposition to know that killing is wrong (and this is why many atheists still hold on to this, despite the fact that atheism leads to nihilism) but if some people spend too much time in isolation or with murderers they may start not seeing anything wrong with killing. Same applies to everything else, if a person doubts their own existence it’s just going too far from reality. And I honestly don’t know what logical argument to give someone who doubts their own self. The only thing that worked for me was noticing my own problem soon enough and just being like ‘what’s the point’ what’s the point of doubting it, there can only be harm to going down that road, and so i literally just ‘gave up’ the concept of ultra skepticism. And by the will of Allah I’m doing better now and i just feel more in touch with reality. There is no logical argument i personally can form, but just that one themselves should turn back soon enough if they are at the point of doubting themselves, there can only be benefit from giving up on ultra skepticism. Plus ultra skepticism is also one of those things like postmodernism which are internally contradictory. Like to conclude that one is ultra skeptic or to just conclude that ‘you doubt your own existence’ to just come to that conclusion you have to trust the ability of your brain to make conclusion, which itself is doubted by ultra skeptics. It’s basically that you need faith in your rational faculties in order to doubt or to make any conclusions, or the ‘doubt’ itself will be of no meaning. I hope i articulated that properly, i do realize this comment is a bit all over the place. But remember you lose nothing by giving up philosophy, it’s only satan that is stopping you. Just try it and only once your vision is cleared you will realize how your position was wrong (just like a murderer may not see that they are wrong, no matter how many arguments are presented, but they will only acknowledge it once they are in touch with reality again) and that can only happen by the will of Allah, so make dua. And may He guide you.
I was interested in you having two copies of Freakonomics. A friend used to have two copies of "Studies of Twins" side by side in their bookshelf. BTW I do hope that "The Worm at the Core" is amongst your other volumes...

I would love to hear his thoughts on Peterson. I seem to remember him being positive about Jordan on a QnA a while ago.
they're shit
Your book shelf is humbling
I feel I’ve watched you grow up Alex!!
Your mind is on full speed here and it’s lovely!! Thanks for this video showing us all your books ( so far) - make room for more❣️
great
I love books! Grateful for this. Reminded me of some books I have been needing to buy
yep
Why am I watching this :''( My bachelors thesis is due in 12 hours and I'm not nearly done. Help. Have to go over the whole thing, rephrase, write a conclusion and omg, I'm stressed out.
But anyway, awesome stuff Alex! Isn't a nice bookshelf just the most sexy and exciting thing?
Edit: I did it! Even got a top grade :)
Good luck mate
@@pandaitis4157 Thanks a lot. Not my best work, but hey - I've done it during a pandemic with the worst access to resources and the lowest study motivation I've ever had. I'll take any passing grade. As long as I finish, I'm ok.
I love the love-hate relationship between you guys. XD

I'm in a philosophy group on Facebook, and this video made me realise some people really have a passion for reading about philosophy. The only book I ever bought was Better Never to have been by David Benatar, and I didn't even read it all. I feel like I should be more respectful to people on Facebook, I had no idea I was speaking to such enthusiasts.
A little bit of philosophy leads you away from god but a lot of philosophy makes you realize god is real. It’s just a matter of time my friend, happened to me too.
could you give an example?
@@yabesira7351 like of a person? If so then me.
@@doodooman4026 no like an example of when you studied philosophy so much that you realized God is real? What was the turning point for you? Was there a moment where it all clicked or was it gradual? Is philosophy a hobby for you or did you major in it?
@@doodooman4026 Nobel prize winning physicist, Werner Heisenberg, had the same feeling.
"The first gulp from the cup of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the cup God is waiting for you."
@@ssrmy1782 your are without a doubt absolutely right.
Nice to see Hans Küng on your shelf. He was a legend.
great
I just started learning Philosophy 20 hours ago and then the very next hour this came out.
So where did you start. I can help you out lol😁😁
I have a lot of those but very few of the philosophy ones. I’m still building my WW2 collection of over 100 books from every view of every nation involved .
I'm surprised being super into the New Atheists is still a thing
Thanks for your uploads
That Schopenhouer joke was below you. I enjoyed the rest of the video, though :-)
I don’t think it was a joke
It is not even historically true, had plenty of women experiences.
That ad slip was smooth af 😂
Mashallah! Beautiful beats brother :)

Mashallah CosmicSkeptik beautiful books
I LOVE BOOKSHELF TOURS THANK YOU!
Not gonna lie, I'm jealous of that signed book collection.
The image of you taking philosophy college courses is kinda funny. Professors must LOVE having you in class /s. I would LOVE to take a class taught by you, but will have to settle for watching each and every RUclips video you make!
This was awesome, I really enjoyed this tour Alex!
Suddenly I feel I'm not so alone about reading books and being such passionate about topics like Homo Sapiens, The Prince, Martin Luther King and so on. Greetings from Guatemala CosmicSkeptic.
Oh YES just what I wanted to watch :3
nice
your a legend Mr Skeptic!
I fell in love with books just now in my mid-twenties while I also own a Kindle. I can't but wonder about the ethics of buying books vs e-books. 🤔
great right
15:10 " The Sealed Nectar " is better than this [ at least start from 6th chapter if you dont wanna know about pre-Islamic era }Other books are "INTERACTIONS OF THE GREATEST LEADER" and Riyad us saliheen
I HIGHLY recommend Culture and Imperialism by Edward Said
True about the dangers of horse riding, from a rider.
That artwork on Professor Dawkins is wonderful.
Alex is fab. So clever. And tolerant.
I came to his channel 1 year later. And a lot of things changed. :|
@Ahmed Hossam
May Allah guide him. But I don't expect it sooner. Skeptic Atheists are hard to be revert as there's no rigorous proof of any religion. You can only compare religions on preservation and authenticity.
@@IshaaqNewton Aameen
إن شاء الله he will be guided
Also ofc there is proof, but ultra skepticism rejects a lot of the evidence, some people even reject their own evidence, which is self evident but i (personally) wouldn’t know what ‘proof’ to use against that. Doesn’t mean there is no proof of existence, ultra skepticism is basically like being too detached from the reality.
@@Anon-uv9mj
In case you didn't know, I am a hyper-skeptic myself. I doubt almost everything including my own existence 🥶
But I am a Muslim 😁
@@IshaaqNewton i had in the past somewhat struggled with it, I’m better now الحمد لله . Make dua and may Allah heal you. It’s a dangerous thing honestly and i think its only the result of being too detached from reality and other people.
I’d say that just making dua, spending a lot of time with other people and in nature and just listening to the recitation of Quran is very helpful. (Try all that)
In contrast pondering too much over philosophical arguments and isolating oneself from other people and spending more time on the phone than outside of it used to make it worse for me.
Glad to get some great recommendations.
I would have gotten into reading books like these if I just knew what there was to read, so thanks!
God bless
9:58 I'd like to know what translation of the Qur'an that is on your shelf. I collect holy books, and that is quite a nice looking Qur'an.
I think it's translator is Maulana Muhammad Ali.
Clear Quran which 2 American revert Muslim women translated or Muhsin Khan and Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali. Easy English and good explanation
Sahih International is a good translation of the meaning
I am eagerly waiting for you till to June 17th 😍♥️😍
I was interested in you having two copies of Freakonomics. A friend used to have two copies of "Studies of Twins" side by side in their bookshelf.
BTW I do hope that "The Worm at the Core" is amongst your other volumes...
I saw you had Michael Sandel. I recommend The Tyranny of Merit by him. It explains what Chomsky called: the "generalised anger" we are seeing in Western society for the last 30 years . It's a fantastic read.
Fyi he interviewed him and discussed that Merit book.
