Great suggestion for storing the silicon. Just last night I was fighting with mine to get it to flow...then I covered mine with plastic wrap and a rubberband. But I like this way of silicone storage better. Thanks.
Thanks for the video I'll be doing My 97 f150 4.6 2wd it looks pretty simple but it's gonna be a hastle taking off because there's always an issue when it hasn't been taking care of and still has the original!
That was my thought they make a gasket for a reason TO SEAL IT UP. Why spend 13-15$ on a gasket to just to silicon it in that case just use silicon LOL.
I have done MANY water pumps and thermostats NEVER use anything besides the gaskets it came with. You can use silicon if you want too and or to hold the gasket in place BUT it is NOT a must use silicon on gaskets. To each their own but if you HAD to use silicon the water pump for instance instructions would said MUST use silicon on gasket which it doesn’t. It does say MAY use a very light coat to hold gasket in place for instal.
Hi great video. I have a question. Can I use a pump to suck out the old fluid and add the new fluid? I know it won't get all the old fluid out but I have so much rust on the bolts I would not want to strip/ break anything off.
could I use the Felpro RDS55341 gasket on a 1995 f-150 with a 5.0 EFI engine My diff as 10 bolts and looks exactly as yous....Thank...good viveo you made....Carl

Depends if you have a limited slip diff or not. You can but friction modifier in either and be good. But if you have a limited slip and don't it can destroy it. Thanks for watching!
I don't think it matters, but was this a truck with an automatic transmission, or with a 5 speed manual cause mines is 5 speed maunal, 4*4 with a 4.6 engine and I'm jus only haven trouble with the tiny security screw that holds the pin in place, it keeps loosing, Red thread locker doesn't seem to work, I may need to flood it with lock tight, I really don't want to, I got the truck new in 02, and yes it has high mileage, approximately, 950,000 miles, still runs great except for the rear end issues I'm experiencing. Any advise.
Well first of congratulations on nearly a million miles on your truck there! Honestly if I were you I'd go to a wrecking yard and get a new used diff with the same ratio as the old one. Thanks for watching!
I have a 2000 f150, I was told I don’t need a gasket, just silicone. I got red gasket maker(don’t know how that came about, lol) question is, do I not need a gasket? And if not, will the red gasket maker work? Thanks in advance
Question: I have a 1996 F150 XL I have replaced the drum brakes. When driving I hear a squeaking noise from the rear driver side. Will replacing the diff fluid work with reducing that squeak? Thanks for this great video by the way.
Make sure your drum brakes are adjusted correctly. I'm not sure replacing the diff fluid would help that but it is good maintenance! Thanks for watching!
Ok I replaced the rear end seal in my ford step by step but the dif is still leaking should I try and replacethe same seal again with more silicone? Or try the front seal near the drive shaft?
Something he failed to mention if you're using synthetic differential fluid leave one inch of space between the hole where your adding fluid and call it good because the synthetic fluid expands! And if it has nowhere to expand to guess what it's going to do it's going to blow your seal! I'm gearing up to do this little project myself and this is what four different mechanics have told me these exact same words leave one inch of space between the level of oil in the differential and the feel plug if you're using synthetic, and they also said that synthetic does last longer however they did recommend changing it out ever so often depending on your own maintenance schedule. I personally just bought this 1999 Ford f150 and I'm currently going through all this stuff myself just for Peace of mind and before winter gets here so it's not going to be balls ass cold outside and I have a bad issue , I even plan on having a radiator flush done real soon the belts and hoses look real good so I'm not too worried about them.
@@Asunamazda Actually, he is partially correct, but for the wrong reason. My manual says fill to 6-14mm (1/4 - 9/16") below fill plug for this axle. Not sure why, as the the 10.25" axle gets filled right up to the drain plug, and uses synthetic oil as well.
There's a vent tube for your differential. I found this our when I went too deep into the water to launch a boat. Drip tube wasn't strapped down properly and took in some water and now I'm changing the fluid in my differential
I was at my local Ford dealer today. And they told me I don't need to use a gasket. And didn't have one to sell me. So I am gonna buy an aftermarket one.
First time I've ever seen anyone use construction silicone as an auto gasket sealant, LOL.
RTV is RTV as long as it has a good heat range it will work the same. Thanks for watching!

What’s the purpose of the paper gasket when the silicone is put on both sides?
I was like, "Holup⁉🤔"

The Gasket Seal doesn't last Long with the heat it's like Cardboard Paper 😮😢
thats awesome. my only concern is that i don't have a lift . can this be done with all the wheels on the ground

brake cleaner works too when cleaning the gears on the rear diff and cover.
that was a great video they want $250 at the dealership to do that job
These videos keep giving my wife ideas for me to do on the weekends. lol
You Can also use Alcohol to Clean Gasket Cover and Around the Metal area all around Works great
Thumbs Up!!!!

No
I wouldn’t see why not. Not all of us like to pay a small fortune to pay a garage to do it, and we don’t have a car/truck lift.
Hi, can I put the gasket Wit no rtv? Thanks...
Do you need silicone if using a gasket??
no but it’s a good safety measure if the gasket fails

you dont need RTV, torque on cover is 25-35, and 15-30 on fill plug
