you can do it very easy you have 2 straps on what i called the downtube which takes kit [you missed out that] you can even carry a fart sack on the bottom its simple it was designed for fast ops but guys went 3/4 days just on that, it was designed for vehicle use but 2/3 day foot ops no problem

Now you know what room you have, design the overnight kit to fit the vest, not the other way round.
I noticed Bruno was right there to help too. What a good boy.

I have the P83 battle jacket as well. I removed the separators in all the mag pouches etc to fit larger things in it. I’ve worked out that I can carry everything I need for 48 - 72 hours in the thing. Over 48 hours I’d need to start catching fish or trapping. Over 72 hours I’d need to find water. That depends on season though as I’m in Australia where I drink 3 litres a day in summer (outside/inside), and that’s not even tramping about the bush.
That includes a Silky outback 360 saw, Wetterlings bushman axe, 9x9’ tarp & cordage, woobie, IFAK, Austrian mess kit, compass, 6” Diamond sharpening plate (double sided = two grits/very thin), food, 6 litres of water, Lifestraw, brown bag, fire kit, map, notepad and pens, Austrian army shovel, ground sheet, etc etc. Every void is stuffed and the mess kit is filled with food as well. You can even store stuff like salt/sugar in the hollow of the folding shovel.
    😂
Straps on either side of the two main back pouches take the biggest and heaviest gear. Straps under the back bottom pouch carries a ground sheet and shovel. Straps on the main back pouches can carry other stuff, like the mess kit, etc.
With the removed dividers I have identical material for repairs.
I used a seam ripper to cut the stitching rather than the fabric. A lot of these jackets are missing anywhere from 2 - 6 attachment straps. I just made 4 new ones for mine.
    Edited for more info.

If you made your sleeping kit into a ranger roll and attached it to the bottom of the rig you should have all the space you need?

YES it is a wise decision. I am in the states and using a old school US military LBE Y harness set up, along with a small pack for shelter.

In my opinion, a compression bag, a high quality one would definitely give you more room for that sleeping bag, I wouldn't stuff em like that, could wreck it. Love your channel though I am subbing your videos are entertaining and informative.
Lots of molle webbing vests allow more customization with the pouches and their placement, and is why such a rig is a bit venerable even if legendary in it's history. Pre-sewn in pouches have their limitations. Molle webbing vests can interface with rucksacks better too.
Molle webbing belts exist to mount pouches too if you want a low profile belt setup.
LBV, LBE, Belt, theres many tactical gear options that can be repurposed for camping, hiking and bushcraft.

As you started, my thoughts to as advantages; most things in their own pouch, giving easier access to certain items - disadvantage; remembering which pouch stuff is in 🙂and repacking some of those tight fits seems it would be a chore in the field under poor conditions?
(edit to add - definitely something that would work for day trips, with a couple of emergency items in case)

To do what you want you will need to get a molly vest and fit it with pouches that fit your gear. I can do an overnight in fair weather with just an Alice war belt minus mag pouches plus ass pack but it will be very bare bones and won't have all your comforts.

While I understand the need to have a basic light weight tactical vest set up, having the gear being stowed to the left and right of your body will become a hindrance in mobility, being able to maneuver through out dense woods and such, however if you could combine the USMC ruck sack and the tactical vest , and create a front and rear balance with the arm swing area open you may be on to something, and also be able to ruck out for longer periods of time!
Remember the most important thing you can bring into the forest is not your gear, it is actually your wits and common sense, all else just makes it more comfortable and fun!

I tried the same thing with a vest, thinking it would spread the load and be more comfortable. I had to strap the sleeping kit to the top of a large pouch on the back. But ultimately I felt like marshmallow man, unable to drop my arms by my side. And I had increased the number of points that the vest could get caught up on when tramping through thick bush. So it didn't work out for me, but the pouches are great.

Carinth.Bivvybag + swiss army straps = sleeping-bag into the bivvybag, "compressed" by one trap, and with anouther mount the thing in a suiting place on the back of the vest? (or the savotta isolated bivvy-bag as replacement for sleeping-bag and bivvy-bag)
