It isn't wool! Such sacrilege in the realm bushcraft!
How dare you preach such filth and take the flock astray!!!!
    Oh wait......
That's right, if it works why not?
All joking aside it is my understanding that Fesca aren't rip off bags but actual licensed products. I have a full set of the British bags in large size that arrived brand new and like them quit a lot.
Of course, if I listed all the various sleeping bags that I have hoarded over the years, I would be writing a novel!
Pretty much got it all at this point, German tanker bags that turn into coats?
    Got both sizes.
US army wool sleeping bag from the 1940s with canvas cover?
    Got it.
Greek army version of said bag?
    Got it.
Canadian army sleep system in goose down?
    Yup.
    USGI in woodland?
    Yes sir.
    M1949 US mountain bag?
Well, it needs a zipper repair but yes.
Oh dear.....I may have a hoarding problem....there are even more I think somewhere....

@RedBranchBushcraft hahaha! It isn't a bad bag even though it is often miss labeled as a sniper bag. Neat to use sometimes but pretty rare these days, especially in decent condition.

that's true - the Defense-line is NATO-standard and Fesca produces acc. these standards. It's just: the army-surplus-material is well used, thus not so good on insulation anymore than if you buy a new Defense 4 (whose material isn't compressed-to-the-end, so to speak)
Edit: btw Fesca also builds in nice additions: the british "Fescas" have a little bag for items that shouldn't get cold built into the sleepingbag, sadly the dutch-version doesn't have that.
Also: in your list, the old swiss sleepingbag (4-season) is missing, as is the austrian one (they had a carinthia "before the defense-line")

The best bushcraft sleeping bag is the one you own. I bought the British Army one a few years ago for £32 pretty much brand new. It’s massive and heavy but not too bad if you use a good roll down dry bag. If its winter I can add a fleece sleeping bag I bought in 1997 and still works fine. In bushcraft I am around wet, muddy conditions, thorns and fires. At £32 I don’t worry about it, hard to justify paying £100’s for something almost identical.

Interesting Question,,, which is the best Bushcraft sleeping bag,,,? If you’re talking about cold weather 30* to -20* degrees,,, bushcraft, military or high end backpacking,,,, One thing you’ll need is a thick air mattress. The last sleeping bag I purchased was a Western Mountaineering bag. 15 years ago it was $900. +,,,, now ,,, $1200. - $1400.
    Great Video ,,,,👍

still thinking of getting me the old swiss military-sleeping-bag, no bad experience, not very expensive, but i already have the nato-system and not that much need of it... still. memorys and "can't miss the opportunity"
(also - if you call bruno, just throw the stick, Wooly!!)
edit: the hell with it, just ordered it. at worst, i can make a comparison-video ;) you defenetly got a bad influence on me, Wooly!!

Carinthia's Survival One for the winter.
Carinthia's Defence 1 for the summer.
Carinthia's Defence 4 for most other seasons.

I use the British army sleep system in all weathers inside a Wynnchester Adventure bedroll. Bomb proof in all weathers (Shetland in winter!) I agree totally with your review. The bedroll is expensive but worth every penny. I got mine off EBay and someone had only used it once or twice 🥴 for £200. So Bargains are out there. 👍👍

👍👍👍 .. great advice .. your choice seems to be the way to go 😊.
Yep, back in 1968, in sub-freezing temps (and above too 🙄), I absolutely froze in my Army Sleeping Bag out at 'De Brug', our Military Combat Training Area.
For me, the 'Best' Sleeping Bag(s) are those that I currently have .. being the 'best' that I could afford at the time 😏. They have, and continue to serve me well.
'Down'. I have a Salewa Mummy Down Bag that is awesome .. but .. any inkling of exposure to 'wet', it stays at home. The synthetic bags then come out.
Rectangular 😳 full zip synthetic 'hollow fibre' bags .. the 'Back Packer Benedorms' .. the 'Lite and the 'Three Seasons' (two sets of each .. they can be zipped together if extra space is needed .. you know what I mean 😏) and an ultra-light Mummy Summer Bag with a Silk Fibre Fill that can be compressed down to almost nothing.
In real cold, the Silk Fill Bag used, together with a synthetic Bag Inner Liner (or the inner sewn by the Wife from a Flannel Winter Sheet) .. that inside the Benedorm Three Seasons .. 👍👍👍.
As always Wally, a good post .. thanks. Take care ..

The best sleeping bag is the one that you have when you need it.
Sorry, just couldn't resist paraphrasing that saying about survival knives. This bon mot, while not untrue, is useless when you try to select a sleeping bag ( or a knife) to make your life easier & longer! The selection you presented makes sense.
Back on topic: My favorite bushcraft sleeping bag is the helikon-tex swagman roll that I use like a quilt. Combined with an insulated sleeping pad (R4.8) and ( when it is below ca 12c ) the jerven extreme. That setup has worked for me down to ca -3c ( depends on wind & general exposure ).
Downside: the complete system is expensive & heavy!
    Advantage: multiuse, adaptable, good camouflage.
