@@jados5504 well yeah. Optifine has 64 chunks as just a render distance option, and obviously worked with everything else. Way worse performance than what we'll soon have with Iris+DH though
For those who really want the best experience, either get Reterraforged or Tectonic as your terrain generator as Terralith is primarily made for shorter render distances and packs a ton of terrain detail into a small area. At high render distances the terrain looks messier and more cluttered whereas Terraforged and Tectonic smooth out the terrain and make it far more pleasing to the eye at such long render distances. Also Distant Horizons apparently does load it's own chunks to make LODs with, I thought it needed a chunk pregenerator but it doesn't weirdly enough. It just builds the LODs so slow it's ridiculous, you have to let it run over night or something to actually accomplish anything.

Distant Horizons is a real Game-Changer of a Mod! It turns an iconic sandbox game into a real thing of sheer beauty, and the addition of being compatible with Shaders makes it even more breath taking!
The technical feat of turning such a bad looking game into something that is somewhat visually pleasing - and in some places downright breathtaking - is insanely impressive. Massive props go out to all the modders out there making these mods and shaders.
I love this showcase since it depicts all the good but also bad things about this. It is one of the few that shows the amazing landscapes of terralith instead of terraforged. But in the same picute show that terralith is to "small" in biome size and realism for those render distances. Also it show the problem of how things are rendered at distances, most noticable when flying forward and getting to render "cuts" when things get in close range. Make one rly think about what shaders or foliage mods one should use or rather not to make it immersive! Thank you for this video
Honestly I tried out the mod itself it isn't really too demanding in its beta, tho you might need a decent amount of ram. With how well optimized shaders in minecraft is with iris (and possibly other mods up to what ones you want) I'd say you definitely don't need a top of the line pc to get an experience close to this. Even cheaper pc's probably in the 500-700$ range could run this with shaders well. You might not be able to crank it if you want a solid 60 fps but it will still look great!
@wanted3753 with iris my fps basically doubles with shaders on if I compare it to optifine shaders in 1.12.2. I've been able to run a decent few shaders on a 1060 3gb and an I7-3770k (this is my old pc the cpu is from 2012 and still pretty solid 1080 60fps gaming wise) at probably around 40-60 fps with optifine (this was before I knew about iris.) With iris I bet I could be seeing 80-90 fps with the shaders on the hardware of my old pc. As long as you have 16 gigs of ram.
The gameplay was something else. Damn it's impressive how good looking minecraft can be. Seems like a different game. The mountains in distance are so majestics with this shader. Good job !

Bottom line would be just set the LOD render distance to 256 or some other absurd value that's possible and then let the LODs load overnight, when you come back to the world then you'll have a HUGE distance rendered hopefully.
