    Thanks for this jam-packed-full- of information on hosting an event at the library. I have wanted to do this for years. I finally had the courage last fall to ask the director if it would be possible. I am a member and director in our Friends of the Library group, so I figured I had one toe in the door. However , I was not received enthusiastically--rather coolly--because I didn't know how to explain it to her. I figured all librarians would be aware of how these work. But guess not. So I had given up on planning the event. But, I made notes on your steps and will be better prepared this spring when I approach her again. I plan to start with 8-10 local authors who will participate. Thank you for renewing my spirits.

    I may not be ready to host a library event, but I still learned a lot.

    Libraries LOVE to do things which engage the community. Thinking how one’s event can achieve that community engagement will make it easier to pitch.
    (BTW, I loved seeing posters for your LEGENDARY burpees event! That took some genuine courage!)

    I thought about doing an author event at my local library too. I actually made a list of all the libraries in and around my town area, as well as local bookstores :)

    Julie this was a really good video I have used the library for several events; vision board parties etc. and I was hesitant to do anything for my book at the library if my book was not a part of their collection.
    I am going to start calling some of my local libraries today.

    Wow, so many options! My local library has supported local authors but it's usually been fiction work...
    Happy new year julie and team 😎

      Often it's fiction because that is who reaches out to them ... but I've found many libraries are really keen to add educational material so non-fiction authors are very welcome!

    My local library is a bibliotecha and doesn't have any books in English.

    I love this idea and this is something that I've always wanted to do!
    However, I write under a pen name - how do I promote my book and an event like this when my name differs from the author name?

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  2 года назад +1

      Depends on how anonymous you are trying to be. I meet a lot of authors at events that go by their pen name ... that said, if you want complete anonymity live appearances likely won't work for you. A virtual audio only event could be an option.

      @@BookLaunchers Thanks for the reply! I'm not looking to be exclusively anonymous, just not brand under my personal name.

    I am the illustrator/author of a seek and find coloring book. My local library has an adult coloring book event once a month. Do you have a suggestion for how I could use this event to promote my book?

    • @BookLaunchers

      Have you gone in and talked to the people at the library? I find that the best way to figure these things out is to spend some time with the people who are putting these events together!
