Who am I?
I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 16 years and been singing since I was 17. I teach from my own studio and via Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. Jen power on her voice is incredible so i think a lot of people would think she's "better" but Beyonce's technic and agility would make her win. Lets see, this is super interesting.

Beyonce is the most versatile artist and she's done almost every genre there is. she's also admired for her artistry which is rare for a mega pop star like Beyonce. She's said in interviews that she never wants to do the same thing twice, which is why she switches up for every album and her Lemonade album is regarded as the greatest female album of the 21st century it explores southern black culture , injustice and infidelity it is also one of the most critically acclaimed and awarded albums of all time. she's also created some of the greatest songs of the last 25 years. Ariana on the other hand may have a high voice but all her music sounds the same and her discography is very weak. to group them together like that is just insulting to Beyonce and all that she's done for the culture and for the industry.

Khee Sian that's falsetto that Xtina mainly uses. Xtina's tone up there is one of the prettiest but in terms of HEAD VOICE, Bey has it in the bag.

What’s even more impressive about Beyoncè’s voice is that in some of those clips there are dance routines too...so not only is she hitting those notes...but she’s also supposed to be out of breath but isn’t. What a legend.

Jen is great, don't get me wrong, she can definitely sing but Beyonce is a vocal technician she's SO insanely talented. There are very very few contemporary vocalists that can do what Beyonce does with her voice.
If you mean by all the runs she does then yeah! I dont need to denigrate one because I prefer the other! I'm biased because I'm from Chicago. JHud has come into her own! From Broadway to the Respect film the ladies is on a roll.
@@gesk Exactly and in my opinion this video to me seems very one sided because she used Jennifer Hudson performance from way back I wish she would've used updated performances not when Jennifer Hudson was still learning how to use the right key to her voice in my opinion. To me Jennifer Hudson is the better singer because she sings and never over do it with the riffs and runs. I can't stand when Beyonce sings with all the riffs and runs because it's not necessary at all.

Jennifer Hudson is honestly really underrated. People make her out to be someone who screams instead of actually singing. Her voice is amazing and she killed it in dream girls!

These clips are from very early in Jennifer Hudson's professional career. Notice they are almost all from the Dream girls era.
Whereas, by the time Beyonce reached these clips she had already been a world wide mega star for over a decade.
Further, it was clear this RUclipsr just prefers Beyonce's vocal styling. Beyonce and Jennifer are just different singers.

The biggest Jennifer's issue is the need to prove herself all the time. On the other hand, Beyoncé seems to be more confident to 'play' with her voice and she acknowledges that.

To be fair, Beyonce can fall off the stage and her fans still love her. Jen has a tough crowd to please and it's hard for powerhouse vocalists like that, because people just expect more and more. Beyonce relies on her technique but because of Jen's environment, she relies on her pure power (and she has more power than Bey, lets not lie to ourselves).

Disagree when they did that dreamgirls medley and beyonce hopped on stage and transitioned out from jennifers voice on the same note the difference was ridiculous. Jen has a naturally deeper darker voice which can give the impression of extra power compared to beyonce being a mezzo soprano and having a light kinda feathery but strong tone but on that note jen seemed like she was reaching down to the depths of her sole to try and belt that note while bey had a casual smile on her face and did a little flexible run on it to on the way out the door.
To be honest looking at the quality of the clips used and duration I feel this vocal battle was biased towards Beyonce, did not feel they were very good Jennifer Hudson selections.

I'm not a huge Beyonce fan, however, Jen oversings, and then fails. Beyoncé knows how to use her techniques just right. You can tell she's a perfectionist.

Beyoncé is on a whole different level technically. To this day I still remember when Beyonce came on stage with Hudson on the Oscars and the both belted the same F5 note, Beyonce completely drowned Hudson!
JHud was louder but Beyoncé’s technique pushed through and legit drowned her out, when you have good technique you can add as much volume with little strain

King Bey she definitely brought her A game that night. My theory is she needed to remind the world that she was a world class singer because everyone was so into JHUD’s big number. I’m not a fan of listen by Beyoncé but the night at the Oscars is the best I’ve heard it from her. She intimated the hell out of JHUD.
This had more to do with the mic level lol. Beyonce was totally overshadowed during that perf by both JHud and Anika Noni Rose.

It's funny how in Dream Girls, Beyonce's character was made out to be an inferior singer to Jennifer's, just because Beyonce was physically prettier, whereas Jennifer had the larger voice that could belt higher. Beyoncé is a mezzo soprano. Jennifer Hudson is a soprano, so they are naturally going to sound a lot different in comparisons on the same notes. Jen’s notes 📝 won’t sound as good in the low register and Beyoncé will sound better in the lows just naturally because of their voice types...same in high but the opposite...Surprised she didn’t mention voice type in this video?

Quality of sound and range is not tied to a voice type. It is affected waaaaaaaaaaaay more by the technique of the singer.
Beyoncé sounded better pretty much on every note because she has a more well rounded and developed technique, she is clearly extremely trained.

Jennifer Hudson can sing and there is clearly no doubt about it. Admittedly I’m not an avid follower of hers however, based on what I have seen it’s not for me.
I’m not a singer, so I don’t know about techniques & ability but, as a listener, her voice is too loud, has too much vibrato or is too growly at times.
I’m no more a fan of Beyoncé than I am of Jennifer Hudson, but Beyoncé’s voice just seems more melodic. By that, I mean her voice seems to float effortlessly from one note to the next. Combine this with the fact she can dance, is reported to be a nice person and is absolutely stunning, I can see why she gets called Queen Bey!
Anyway, regardless of my opinion I’m actually jealous of them both...at least they can actually hold a tune, unlike myself!!

I just LOVE these vocal battle videos!! Jhud and Beyonce are both so amazing! Beyonce has the effortless agility, dynamic control, and clearer tone. And Jhud has that unbelievable vocal power and stamina that will knock you off your seat. Their vocal talent is insane! :)
That compilation seemed a little unfair because the Beyonce clips were way longer than Jen's and they used the same performances over and over for Jen. Both are great vocalists though.

Jhud and Bey have the same range. Bey has agility and control matched with a smooth pop-friendly sound, while Jhud has power, emotion and rawness. Jhud's voice is a lot more gospel which is a more stylized type of singing - the strong vibrato and glottal attack critized in the video is simply something gospel singers preferably use as artistic choice. Bey is more harmonic and smooth - so more pop/r'n'b according to her girl group background. The two are simply very different styles of singing.

CLEAR. Because While I do think Bey is the overall better technician, Jhud can reach heights of depth and power that Bey's does not, and Jhud practically lives in sustained G5 belt land.
Jennifer is a Soprano. Not a Mezzo. Beyonce is a Mezzo, however lighter tone. Jennifer voice shines in the F5 - Bb5 area. She's a high soprano.

If by resonance you mean use of artificial reverberation usually reserved to karaoke singers, then yes.

Jennifer Hudson’s voice is incredibly powerful, but Bey is as well, as well as incredible agility, precision, and technique. Love em both.
In my opinion, these videos also test how consistent an artist is. If one thinks that clips are biased to another artist, that artist is the better singer.

I've seen a lit of debate over this. And people always say Jhud is better becasue she belts and sings loudly😑I love Jhud and she is an amazing singer no doubt. But not compared to Beyonce. Beyonce can sing while dacing and still sound amazingly, she growls, she can hit high and low notes effortlessly and uses her voice like an instrument. She has more techniques than Jhud🤷♂️It's not me being a fan, it's just facts and you can't argue with facts

I'm not denying Jennifer's talent but she does very little for me. While her tone isn't particularly pleasant (or unique among gospel singers), I don't "feel" her singing. She's an unbelievably skilled singer but a rather bland artist
it's because she has a *gospel* tone. When you have a *gospel* tone it's hard sometimes to crossover. A lot of *gospel* music are *ballads* and that's not always good in the field of *pop* music. She's trying to become more *theatrical* to give her voice a *different texture* and for me it's working. She even hit a *whistle* this year.

I feel like most videos done are bias. The competitor is on for a three second clip while the person they clearly like better is on longer. They seem to use videos when the person first started their career like Jennifer Hudson on like American idol versus a fully recognize Beyoncé’s after destiny’s child. No question Beyoncé is super amazing and Jennifer Hudson is in her own right as well. However Jennifer Hudson seems to have a more husky voice and it’s completely different than Beyoncé’s. However there’s a reason why Aretha Franklin chose Jennifer Hudson to play her. I’m not particularly a Jennifer Hudson fan. I mean I like her but I find Beyoncé’s voice more beautiful.

Beyoncé is my idol and she is definitely my favorite singer of all time ❤️ I'm a huge fan of her, I have been a fan of Beyoncé from the beginning, when she was with Destiny's Child and I still am, of course. I saw her in concert 6 times and I know I'm extremely lucky for that, It was easily the best moments of my life part I'll never forget that. Her vocal performances in live was purely incredible, Queen B is clearly the best singer, the best artist, she's the best performer and she has the best vocal technique of all. Now, I cannot wait to see this Battle but Beyoncé is obviously the BEST, she is the greatest singer. Hudson is ok but she is absolutely not at Beyoncé level, she is nothing compared to her, sorry for her fans but Jen Hudson has already lost against Queen B Lol... Beyoncé is the best of the two at every level, she is the most talented , she's the best vocalist, she has the most beautiful and most powerfull voice, she is 100 times better than her and she is the best at every level !Beyoncé is the one and only Queen, she won this battle, that's all.
