Both of them hold a special place in my heart. I give you props for trying to watch both the OG and this reboot. I don't think I could watch the OG again only because of time. That takes a lot of time to rewatch that whole series.

The Sailor Guardian romances actually came from a scrapped concept, brought about because the manga and 90s anime were being made in tandem. It's actually an interesting story. Takeuchi wanted to give the inner scouts love lives, and even eluded to it in the Sailor V manga (which came out before Sailor Moon). However, the people working at Toei took it upon themselves to kill Jadeite, and thus Takeuchi needed to kill him off in the manga for consistency. Once the precedent was set, the other 3 were all but guaranteed to die. And then she never got around to bringing Endymion's generals back into the story. This lead to speculation from fans (ex: if the generals were revived along with everyone else), and a desire from the fanbase to see the romances be implemented (along with "fixing" other things the 90s anime changed), so it became remarkably common for spin-off material to include it.

Honestly, I like how the senshi killed the Kings in the manga, it showcased their power much more, and keeping them alive didn't add anything to the plot, they just died anyways lol. But I did like the short fight they had with the senshi at least.

This was amazing love seeing the comparison’s to Crystal Season 1 episode’s to the manga I also think the early animation’s were not that bad not the best but they were pretty good but the CGI Transformation’s they were alright I can’t wait when you cover Season 2 and 3 specially season 3 it’s one of my favorites I look forward :D👍

They reworked a lot of episodes for the DVD release, so it looks decent now - the first release of the season had a lot of horrible errors and anatomical mistakes.
When it comes to english voice actors, i can ONLY, ONLY watch the sailor moon dub, bc hinata? Orihime? Sakura? Misiki? Stardust cookie? naruto? Rukia? BORUTO??? ICHIGO? @hasseo195 because the manga didn't build anymore on those characters like the anime did. That's it. Also I have no way to confirm this. But I feel like the manga may have been rushed in some areas. Because the creator only wanted to do one arc. And they asked her to keep going. And it was planned to be released the same time as the og anime and live action show.

But Toei made her make all the other arcs because the manga and original anime was very successful. Another thing you’re right about is that the other arcs were rushed and that several villains were one shot

Just thought I'd mention it because I think that is her most well-known role due to the sheer popularity and because the voice of Shirai Kuroko, the mad teleporting lesbian in love with Mikoto, also voices the first spirit Velvet ends up devouring during the prison break of the game (who is Velvet's revived sister, unbeknownst to her). I know this isn't part of the Dark Kingdom Arc, but what I find interesting are the Starlight Scouts. I understand they had to disguise themselves, but why did they choose to hide as male singers instead of female singers. Doesn't bother me that they chose men, just curious as to why.
@HOTAStudios yeah it's interesting. In that aspect. I think naoko takeuchi was way ahead of the times. Because uranes doesn't identify as male and female. We got the starlights like you said. When I get into those breakdowns I'm going to try and research those points.
@@GodFireBreakdownsI can save you a little trouble on Uranus. Takeuchi was asked that question about Uranus years ago. Uranus isn't trans or anything, but she prefers male clothing. When she answers Usagi, "Why can't I be both" takeuchi said she was trying to preserve hers and Neptune's identity as in not to reveal it just yet. Or at least that is what I read anyway.
The crystal anime led to me checking out the manga when it first came out, so I think that's already a win for the series. I also liked the 3d animations, but can't say I was sad to see them go in season 3 onward. I think its prettier in 2d overall, though I don't dislike 1 or 2 for having 3d. I think Crystal had alot going against it, but still does a good job of telling the story. My one major "WHY?" was Sailor Moon couldn't revive the other guardians boyfriends in the process of everything else at the end. Felt silly to keep them around only to throw them away in the end.
@SirSailorStar yeah. In the manga like I said it almost looked like she revived them then the next chapter was a just kidding. They aren't alive. I also agree with the 3D animation. I know when I first saw it back in 2014. I was a little I don't want to say disgusted but thrown off by it. But I was still open to the idea. I see what the animators wanted to do. But I am the same way I wasn't disappointed when it was gone in season 3. 🤣

Johnny has MANY credits to his name for sure. Yeah I’m 45 and I’m one of those xenials that got her introduction to Johnny through Power Rangers. Yes Vash, Ichigo, and MANY MANY more. It still makes me laugh when he does the characters that are goofy and always laughing and screaming because it’s a stark contrast to the character Adam Park 😂

The ones that have followed their careers know how good they all are. I met JYB at the first PowerMorphicon and he is a very down to earth dude when not in front of a panel. He is very talented along with MANY of the VAs that did the Viz dub.

TBH I felt that the whole "keeping the four generals alive" thing was unecessary and poorly executed. It seemed like an excuse to ship the four inners when it added nothing to their characters. When they were inevitably killed off, I just found it more goofy than sad. Zoisite and Kunzite had a more convincing relationship than whatever Crystal tried imo. That aside, I really appreciated this video going over the differences, and I'm happy you gave each voice actor a spotlight!

The generals alive was an interesting change in a way it was done for the better since they were made to find the prince and I was glad to see them alive. It's how they killed them off was so cheap. They cldve Done a better job with that. But that's just me.
I was one of those people who were dissapointed by Sailor Moon Crystal Honestly. I knew going into it that it wasn't really going to be for me because I like adaptations that aren't 1:1, like, same story different journey, and they were very clear that this was going to be true to the Manga so to an extent my thoughts were "Well then I don't need to watch it then...". I was going to just give it a few eps for the sake of being a big sailormoon fan and the minute Jadeite didn't die I was like "Oh ho ho? What's this????" and that held my attention for the rest of the Dark Kingdom Arc wondering what they were going to do with the Generals... which in complete fairness was absolutely nothing other than as kinda a callback to an original idea of the SxS Pairings. It's nice and all but I remember it being a huge arguing point in the fandom during S1 that the show was willing to deviate to keep the Generals alive, but not to make better pacing among other complaints. I watched up through the Sailor Moon R arc before I kinda gave up on Crystal. The S arc was always a slog to get through both in the 90s anime and the manga and R and optionally Stars always felt kinda like the true finale to the premise to me? If they did a reboot of Sailor moon again I would love to see it as an alternate universe story where the creators talk to Naoko Takeuchi and try to use her original ideas like Ami being a cyborg and everyone dying like in the anime.

But it's unfortunate on what seems to be production issues as well. And gave us a rushed thing. Sadly seems like this series is just doomed to he rushed. 😭 I had the same thought process as you. Well I don't have to watch it if it's 1:1. But I did because I too loved sailor moon. But man sometimes that animation was hard to watch. But it was way more enjoyable to rewatch when I rewatched it for these videos. But I get it. It isn't going to win everyone.

Ironically it sorta felt like Transitional filler to me. 7 Year old babby me who was a super fan watching it just felt like "What... it's still going?" after R ended. The Dark Kingdom was them denying their tragic past lives from repeating, and then the R arc was them saving the future they created (Thus why Chibiusa conveniently appeared right after the Dark Kingdom Arc finale because this was the earliest point she could appear without flat out aborting herself from history) And then S starts and my wee babby brain thought it was just because they were obligated to fill up the whole solar system. Crystal was soo soo rough when it came out initially that it almost felt disrespectful to the mother of the magical girl genre. The fandom though... the fandom was intolerable weather you liked Crystal or didn't haha

Lol. That is one of my favorite moments. So when they animated it in eternal. I was so happy.

Was she always kinda a bitch and then awakened by Metalia and just continued her bitchery but now with magic or did she just get worn down by this life until she decided she was ENTITLED to all the stuff her past life was denied like ruling the world and having an under-aged boyfriend? She was fine when I thought she was just frozen in ice for a bajillion years and woke up to start her evil bidding as usual but finding out she was SOMEONE before becoming Beryl again? My OCD kicked in. Aslo on/off topic I just learned today that a Mini Moon is a REAL THING! I thought that was just a silly "It's sailor moons future sailor scout daughter MINI MOON cuz she's a kid lol!" But it turns out a Mini Moon Is an Asteroid that spends a period of time orbiting the earth without escaping the gravitational pull or burning up. And that Blew my mind because Chibiusa, Sailor Minimoon in english, has her own sailor guardians and they are the SAILOR ASTEROIDS!

they made a STUPID amount of changes this arc. so many of these changes were illogical, and contributed to stripping away the scouts personalities. What was all of this for, you might ask? A bland and boring love plot. It aggrevates me to no end that they focused so damn much on the “love story” between the inners/kings. i’m very mad at what they did to the fight with Beryl, and I’ll never forgive them for taking away Venus’s kill.

I know. I really like how you did your video summary of the Dark Kingdom arc with tons of trivia and opinions. I was so happy when Toei announced Sailor Moon was getting rebooted, would be sticking closer to manga, cover the Dark Kingdom arc and would have 26 episodes. I thought it would be similar to PGSM but animated, especially with the Shitennou not being killed in acts 3-5. But between the derpy animation, the 1:1 format and the several year gaps between season 2 and 3, then several between season 3 and the Eternal/Cosmos movies and finally the characters lead design being changed each time the reboot was in production just ruined it for me

Because the creator only wanted to do one arc. And they asked her to keep going. And it was planned to be released the same time as the og anime and live action show.

But Toei made her make all the other arcs because the manga and original anime was very successful. Another thing you’re right about is that the other arcs were rushed and that several villains were one shot

Crystal was a huge part of my childhood as that, alongside Glitter Force/Smile Precure (Before you rant on me, I watched a Spanish dub that was 100 times better), introduced me to the magical girl genre!

Just thought I'd mention it because I think that is her most well-known role due to the sheer popularity and because the voice of Shirai Kuroko, the mad teleporting lesbian in love with Mikoto, also voices the first spirit Velvet ends up devouring during the prison break of the game (who is Velvet's revived sister, unbeknownst to her).

Jokes aside, this is a really well put video. I have watched all of the 90's anime and the two TV series of Crystal, but I haven't read the manga. It's really nice seeing the differences (especially knowing that the part where the girls were in love with the heavenly four in their past lives wasn't in the original).

I know this isn't part of the Dark Kingdom Arc, but what I find interesting are the Starlight Scouts. I understand they had to disguise themselves, but why did they choose to hide as male singers instead of female singers. Doesn't bother me that they chose men, just curious as to why.
@HOTAStudios yeah it's interesting. In that aspect. I think naoko takeuchi was way ahead of the times. Because uranes doesn't identify as male and female. We got the starlights like you said. When I get into those breakdowns I'm going to try and research those points.
@@GodFireBreakdownsI can save you a little trouble on Uranus. Takeuchi was asked that question about Uranus years ago. Uranus isn't trans or anything, but she prefers male clothing. When she answers Usagi, "Why can't I be both" takeuchi said she was trying to preserve hers and Neptune's identity as in not to reveal it just yet. Or at least that is what I read anyway.

The crystal anime led to me checking out the manga when it first came out, so I think that's already a win for the series.
I also liked the 3d animations, but can't say I was sad to see them go in season 3 onward. I think its prettier in 2d overall, though I don't dislike 1 or 2 for having 3d.
I think Crystal had alot going against it, but still does a good job of telling the story. My one major "WHY?" was Sailor Moon couldn't revive the other guardians boyfriends in the process of everything else at the end. Felt silly to keep them around only to throw them away in the end.
@SirSailorStar yeah. In the manga like I said it almost looked like she revived them then the next chapter was a just kidding. They aren't alive.
I also agree with the 3D animation. I know when I first saw it back in 2014. I was a little I don't want to say disgusted but thrown off by it. But I was still open to the idea. I see what the animators wanted to do. But I am the same way I wasn't disappointed when it was gone in season 3. 🤣

Johnny has MANY credits to his name for sure. Yeah I’m 45 and I’m one of those xenials that got her introduction to Johnny through Power Rangers. Yes Vash, Ichigo, and MANY MANY more. It still makes me laugh when he does the characters that are goofy and always laughing and screaming because it’s a stark contrast to the character Adam Park 😂

I met JYB at the first PowerMorphicon and he is a very down to earth dude when not in front of a panel. He is very talented along with MANY of the VAs that did the Viz dub.

TBH I felt that the whole "keeping the four generals alive" thing was unecessary and poorly executed. It seemed like an excuse to ship the four inners when it added nothing to their characters. When they were inevitably killed off, I just found it more goofy than sad. Zoisite and Kunzite had a more convincing relationship than whatever Crystal tried imo.
That aside, I really appreciated this video going over the differences, and I'm happy you gave each voice actor a spotlight!

The generals alive was an interesting change in a way it was done for the better since they were made to find the prince and I was glad to see them alive.
It's how they killed them off was so cheap. They cldve Done a better job with that. But that's just me.

@belladonna__ssjo I ended up finding some of the older volumes at antique stores which makes me sad to say. And then some used collectable stores.
I was one of those people who were dissapointed by Sailor Moon Crystal Honestly. I knew going into it that it wasn't really going to be for me because I like adaptations that aren't 1:1, like, same story different journey, and they were very clear that this was going to be true to the Manga so to an extent my thoughts were "Well then I don't need to watch it then...".
I was going to just give it a few eps for the sake of being a big sailormoon fan and the minute Jadeite didn't die I was like "Oh ho ho? What's this????" and that held my attention for the rest of the Dark Kingdom Arc wondering what they were going to do with the Generals... which in complete fairness was absolutely nothing other than as kinda a callback to an original idea of the SxS Pairings. It's nice and all but I remember it being a huge arguing point in the fandom during S1 that the show was willing to deviate to keep the Generals alive, but not to make better pacing among other complaints.
I watched up through the Sailor Moon R arc before I kinda gave up on Crystal. The S arc was always a slog to get through both in the 90s anime and the manga and R and optionally Stars always felt kinda like the true finale to the premise to me?
If they did a reboot of Sailor moon again I would love to see it as an alternate universe story where the creators talk to Naoko Takeuchi and try to use her original ideas like Ami being a cyborg and everyone dying like in the anime.

But it's unfortunate on what seems to be production issues as well. And gave us a rushed thing. Sadly seems like this series is just doomed to he rushed. 😭
I had the same thought process as you. Well I don't have to watch it if it's 1:1. But I did because I too loved sailor moon. But man sometimes that animation was hard to watch. But it was way more enjoyable to rewatch when I rewatched it for these videos. But I get it. It isn't going to win everyone.

Ironically it sorta felt like Transitional filler to me. 7 Year old babby me who was a super fan watching it just felt like "What... it's still going?" after R ended. The Dark Kingdom was them denying their tragic past lives from repeating, and then the R arc was them saving the future they created (Thus why Chibiusa conveniently appeared right after the Dark Kingdom Arc finale because this was the earliest point she could appear without flat out aborting herself from history) And then S starts and my wee babby brain thought it was just because they were obligated to fill up the whole solar system.
Crystal was soo soo rough when it came out initially that it almost felt disrespectful to the mother of the magical girl genre. The fandom though... the fandom was intolerable weather you liked Crystal or didn't haha
@KichiMiangra see the funny thing is I hated super s as a kid. Thought the season was boring. As I got older and the manga was re-released and I finally got to read it. Man super s I felt was done dirty in the og anime. But that's my bias because I love the outer scouts and they are their fighting with everyone. And them seeing their princess forms. Omg fan girl!! Lol. That is one of my favorite moments. So when they animated it in eternal. I was so happy.

I will give them this, I'm glad that the people who loved the manga are finally getting to see those specific scenes in animation, even if it's not for me in the end. I still get the joy of learning Magic Knight Rayearth is getting a new anime, a series that has always made sure every adaptation has them taking a different Journey to the same destination so I am still being fed :)
I totally understand Biases to certain characters. I honestly would really love if someone did a Sailor moon spinoff about Queen Beryl. She was the first villain but sorta under explored. The minute I read the Manga for the first time and realized Beryl had... a LIFE before awakening to her past life I sorta became obsessed with her. Like... did she have a family? Siblings? Are Parents wondering were their adult scientist daughter vanished to? Was she always kinda a bitch and then awakened by Metalia and just continued her bitchery but now with magic or did she just get worn down by this life until she decided she was ENTITLED to all the stuff her past life was denied like ruling the world and having an under-aged boyfriend? She was fine when I thought she was just frozen in ice for a bajillion years and woke up to start her evil bidding as usual but finding out she was SOMEONE before becoming Beryl again? My OCD kicked in.
Aslo on/off topic I just learned today that a Mini Moon is a REAL THING! I thought that was just a silly "It's sailor moons future sailor scout daughter MINI MOON cuz she's a kid lol!" But it turns out a Mini Moon Is an Asteroid that spends a period of time orbiting the earth without escaping the gravitational pull or burning up. And that Blew my mind because Chibiusa, Sailor Minimoon in english, has her own sailor guardians and they are the SAILOR ASTEROIDS!

They take a lot away from Venus vs. the manga
they made a STUPID amount of changes this arc. so many of these changes were illogical, and contributed to stripping away the scouts personalities. What was all of this for, you might ask? A bland and boring love plot. It aggrevates me to no end that they focused so damn much on the “love story” between the inners/kings. i’m very mad at what they did to the fight with Beryl, and I’ll never forgive them for taking away Venus’s kill.
I am noticing more venus fans coming into my comments and telling me how they really feel. hahaha. There are more in my Season 2 comparison. I do agree they should of given venus more love though.

I know. I really like how you did your video summary of the Dark Kingdom arc with tons of trivia and opinions. I was so happy when Toei announced Sailor Moon was getting rebooted, would be sticking closer to manga, cover the Dark Kingdom arc and would have 26 episodes. I thought it would be similar to PGSM but animated, especially with the Shitennou not being killed in acts 3-5. But between the derpy animation, the 1:1 format and the several year gaps between season 2 and 3, then several between season 3 and the Eternal/Cosmos movies and finally the characters lead design being changed each time the reboot was in production just ruined it for me
