Great seeing you posting more SM content! I genuinely appreciate you going further into depth with the series since even though Sailor Moon is one of the most popular animes of all time, there's surprisingly little content of people actually looking into the story and characters :/
Thank you so much, I'm happy to make more Sailor Moon vids! C: I know, right?! As insanely popular and genuinely well made it is, very few people actually cover it in the amount of detail it deserves. That was quite strange to me, which is what inspired me to step up and make the content for it that I've always wanted to see ^v^
This is a breath of fresh air to be sure. Sailor Moon is popular, but outside of a very devoted fandom, it is still not given the prestige it deserves. There is also still a surprisingly strong stigma against males who appreciate the show: i.e., they must be effeminate or perverted.

@chriscassul9904; I'm just happy to be of service, I want to give back to the fandom. Like I said, I don't have anybody in my circle that appreciates the show, so I figured I'd use these videos to connect with more people and stir up the fandom a little bit ^v^ Yes! Absolutely, I'm open to anime suggestions/recommendations! I might not get to each one, but yeah always open to it. Got a good one for me? C:
You are doing God's work, my friend. The world needs to know that this is an excellent show. Not just a show for little girls. Not just a show that boys might watch for the "fanservice" (seriously, can people stop obsessing about the sexuality of the Guardians? The fanservice is not even that gratuitous. Everyone, calm down.). It's just a really good show with great humor, great characters, great themes, and great style. It's one of the best shows, period.
@noahheninger; You honor me, sir. I'm just happy to be of service ;) I'm incredibly grateful that you took the time out of your life to make such a wonderful comment for me to enjoy TvT You're 100% right, it's just an excellent show, period. That's it, no lines in the sand, no qualifiers. It's just plain phenomenal. And every part of it has immense thought and effort put into it and it deserves to be praised and enjoyed by as many people as possible. Like all great art :3 The fanservice complaint that never really made much sense to me was the panty shot thing... I mean, all the "panty" shots people point to are actually _leotards_ . Which every Sailor Moon transformation sequence makes clear. It's not a skirt and top combo, it's a leotard with a skirt attached to the bottom. Essentially it's like slapping a skirt on a one-piece bathing suit and going "zomg put those panties away!". There are no panty shots in the show because there are no panties to have shots of. _People are so goofy sometimes, I swear_ X'D
That’s why it’s hard adapting a manga panel by panel like it’s understandable need more exposition due to the limited medium, but in animation they have more liberties! But the writers did no care to drift off away from the manga a little more and to begin with the manga isn’t that good (understandably so, Naoko was in a very tight schedule too)😩it has way to much plot holes and issues and crystal is proof of that
Yes finally! I’ve been hoping someone would make videos this. Like actually going through the episodes and comparing the two sailor moon animes. I am definitely subscribing can’t wait for part 2 of episode 1!
Crystal is so bad, I am so happy that someone finally understands how poorly it was executed!! Classic is definitivne edition that develops character friendships and relationships, music was better, animation and humor are over the top!!
One of the things I love abut 90's Dark Kingdom is it feel like... a kingdom. Queen Berly actually called quenn not because she is the leader but because she is an actual quenn. She has dosens or maybe more than a hundred servants and soilders under her. Crystal Beryl's only have 4. 4+1 people just sitting on a giant-ass Temple. And those 4 is actually not her minions. They are just mind-controlled. So pathethic.
Yeah, but that's how it is in the manga. 90s anime was definitely better, it's my literal childhood, but Crystal follows the manga. It's I recommend Crystal if you want the proper story without reading the manga(because some people are too lazy to read I guess), but the 90s anime if you want fun heart warming show with mostly the same story.
@kyledevonic6816; *GASP* That was one of my favorite edits! I'm so psyched somebody pointed it out because I really did feel good about that one in particular! Thank you for liking my editing style, I'm very critical of it but I'm so glad people are enjoying it! \(>v
I agree on classic Mamoru > crystal mamoru. He has the build if lelouch of code geass. And at least lelouch was as smart or smarter than ami and can mind control.
Hell nah the romance in the manga was so much better not to mention after they got together mamoru didn’t turn into a douchebag like in the 90s anime were they felt like they were forced at times💀
If anything Usagi and Mamoru felt more forced by their memories in Crystal than the 90’s anime since the love at first sight scene has Mamoru only staring at Usagi because he recognizes her from the past memories /dreams he’s been getting .
I agree with you. I tried to like Crystal, I really did. I didn't hate it, but I found the pacing off-putting (too fast), and I didn't appreciate the narration trying to tell me how to feel about the characters and their relationships to each other (which had zero depth). I didn't like Crystal's animation style much either, because even when they improved it and made it aesthetically pretty (I guess?) it lacked the charm of the original. I like that classic has "filler", because it's one of the few anime that does it well, and it serves the purpose of making us more invested in the characters and their lives. Crystal missed the mark a lot, imo, and I didn't like how everyone just went along with their destiny so easily. In classic, they each struggled with it in their own ways, which gave them all so much depth. Like when Usagi's memory is reawakened in season 2? Her reaction was so heartbreakingly real. And yeah, you won't catch me listening to "Moon Pride" willingly--but Moonlight Densetsu and the outer senshi's themes? Hell yeah. I love them (MD especially) so much that I listen to it frequently. Like almost an embarrassing amount. Overall, I don't give af that Crystal is "truer to the source material"; I find people using that defense boring and lazy, because being truer to the source doesn't automatically mean "better". And this isn't to crap on the manga, which I do want to collect--but sometimes, the first anime adaptation is better (FMA, I'm looking at you). And yeah, that's a subjective take; I get other people feel differently, which is fine. I just find most people who use that defense will say their favourite is "objectively" better, which is pure nonsense, since how we absorb media is entirely personal. Like it could be argued that I have nostalgia goggles for classic, since I watched the DiC dub when I was 8 (when it came over to Canada in 95). But I didn't truly start to love the series until I got to watch it subbed online in the early 2000's. To me, it will always be one of the best anime out there, because it has so much character. Anyway, long comment over. Thanks for making this video. I look forward to watching the next installment(s) later on. ❤
@RavenFirewind; Honestly, I know the Crystal and manga stans won't believe me... but I was very excited for Crystal when it was first announced. Really, I was! I was so ready to enjoy some new Sailor Moon content for the first time in years. And I was interested in how it would adapt from the manga, just like the 90s made really cool and interesting changes, I was hyped to see what Crystal would do different. And then it came out and... well, these videos should tell you how I felt about it X'D You're exactly right about the lack of charm and filler being a detriment to Crystal. Hopefully I did a decent enough job explaining it in the vid, but yeah. Add to that the lackluster animation, the flawed story (as you said, narration that tells you how to feel to substitute actual characterizing the cast), and you've got a perfect storm of crap XD I don't blame you for hating Crystal's OST, I got a whole section about it in Part 3 (which you probably saw at this point, I'm falling behind with answering messages ^_^U). Couldn't have put it better myself! A good adaption and a good story are not the same thing. People need to be reminded of that every now and then C: The manga's not that good, I'mma be honest. All the story problems (and some of the art problems, if you can believe it) are all present in the manga. If you're curious, you can always check out scanlations of it on the internet, to see if it's worth buying a hardcopy for yourself. But personally, I wouldn't. It ain't worth the money X'D
Man, i LOVE this! Your editing is top notch to start with, and this breakdown is succinct. It doesn't really take a side-by-side comparison to see how disappointing Crystal is, but i appreciate how it underlines how good (not just better in comparison, but genuinely good) the storytelling in Classic is. I won't even get started on the art itself. I've been in love with the look of Classic for thirty years, and Crystal gave me a migraine the first time i watched it. You've put so much time, thought, and detail in both videos so far, and your love for the series is apparent, and I'm looking forward to more from you. ✌️
Thank you so much! I really work hard on the editing so that's nice to hear ^v^ And yes, Classic is just flat out good storytelling. Comparing it to Crystal just makes it far easier to explain why it's so good and subsequently, why Crystal is so flat out bad XD OMG I thought I was the only one who got a migraine looking at Crystal's art! It was seriously painful, can't stand it to this day XP I look forward to making more Sailor Moon content, especially since I get comments as nice as yours C:
I think part of the reason the manga feels so fast is because it was made at the same time as the classic anime and Naoko had to rush the story so it can catch up with the anime. Also I feel like the manga and the classic anime have very different tones, the classic anime often feels like a PARODY of super sentai shows, while the manga can be overly dramatic. I do wish they kept the bad guys and the subtle horror tones of the first season in the later seasons, it was a very nice contrast with the slice of life comedy, and the pinkish feel good feeling of the general show. Also I wish they found a way to keep Umino and Naru around beyond the first two seasons, I really loved them, I think they could have worked great like the Scooby Gang in Buffy or something like that. Altho Naru's arc with Nephite was great, and then the two getting together was a great note to leave their characters on. Also I would say Usagi is an overall much more fun character in the 90s too. Also I feel like Sailor Moon, especially the first season would really work great as a Jrpg, persona 5 or Ni No Kuni Style, with all the filler episodes being side quests. Also another difference between crystal and the classic is the classic knows the golden rule of storytelling: show, don't tell. While in crystal it's the opposite instead of showing you they will tell you, sometimes both at the same time
Your Sailor Moon videos are awesome! I'm a BIG fan of Sailor Moon and I've been a fan since 1997/1998. It's the greatest anime in my opinion, that keeps me laughing, crying, and in awe of the beautiful soundtracks created by composer Takanori Arisawa, and the stunning artwork, and camera angles that the Classic series have . . . . unlike Crystal which is too bland, rushed, and the narration . . . . oh, the narration! I'm glad you pointed that out because I found that to be a problem. Usagi narrates too much, narrates her feelings in Crystal, compared to the Classic series which shows us instead of telling us. Narration is a great tool in books, but not so much in films. Why in the first Crystal episode does Usagi tell us her heart is pounding. Why not just show her face blushing or a small smile appearing on her face? Just the first episode alone, Classic has better writing compared to Crystal which doesn't trust the audience to get it, and the writing lays the foundation of what's to follow. I don't know if it was a wise decision to make Crystal go at a breakneck pace like the manga instead of fleshing things out. Some might complain that Classic fleshed out too much with too many fillers, but Crystal didn't even give us a filler, which in turn gives us not so great character development, another aspect I know you'll go on with much detail about, because it's so obvious the differences in the amount of character between Classic and Crystal. In the first episode of Crystal, it's loading us with information that can wait in future episodes, leaving very little mystery for the audience, i.e., when Mamoru is outside of the jewelry store and he mentions that he's looking for the Silver Crystal. Like why do we need to know this so soon?!?! If Crystal allowed itself time to pace itself evenly without going at a breakneck speed, that bit of information would have appeared in a later episode---natural progression. At the same time, Crystal doesn't introduce us to Queen Beryl or even let us in on Jadeite. It's like it doesn't know where to really focus us the audience, and that may be spot on with the manga, but translating that on screen is a problem. Looking forward to your Part 2 video and more videos in this series! So far based on the first episode alone, Classic wins in my book!
Why thank you, you're too kind C: The soundtrack for Sailor Moon Classic is honestly phenomenal, as is the sound design (sound effects, atmospheric sounds, etc.) It's really just incredible audio and visuals *and* storytelling. Which, as you've pointed out, makes Crystal look even worse in comparison. :/ You've hit the nail on the head! Narration is a really tricky thing to get right in a visual medium. You have to be super careful and deliberate with it for it to work, like in Fellowship of the Ring or the Spider-Verse movies. But Crystal just went the worst way about it so... >.> Well, as you can probably tell by the vid, I completely disagree with the pacing and the lack of fleshing stuff out in Crystal. And the manga for that matter. You're right, I will get into more character details and the like in the next parts, but already it's night and day what they've done with Usagi and even characters like Umino & Naru in Classic vs Crystal. You're exactly right, it doesn't know what to save for later and what to properly focus on immediately and we end up with a sucky product as a result :/ I look forward to making more Sailor Moon videos! It's pretty rewarding, especially when I receive lovely comments like yours! Classic certainly beats Crystal, if not most anime in it's first episode and I was happy to prove that in these videos C:
That's a fair point! It can be done quite well, any trope can, really! It comes down to the writer's skill level and imagination. I don't highlight _that_ distinction in this part, but I do address it in Part 3 (which I'm still editing, whoopsie X'D). But yeah, thank you for bringing that up, I agree with this completely ^v^
@EliasTheEstory; I completely understand that perspective. There's a lot, and I do mean A LOT, that I'd like to say to the "Even though we loved each other in another life" point... but I don't want to spoil my future content, soooo X'D For now, I'll just say this: If the disconnect for you is "Why are they acting different after reincarnation when no one else in the cast acts different?" then... I mean I don't wanna shamelessly plug my content but... I _humbly_ request that you gimme a couple _years_ to address that properly in these episode vids, okay? Because there's a lot more to the show's concept of reincarnation and the Destined Lovers trope than it initially appears X'D Nonetheless, I do understand your position and I respect it ^^
Find it funny how people accuse the 90’s Usagi and Mamoru as only liking each other because of their memories when Crystal shows Mamoru only being interested in Usagi because he recognizes her from his dreams (the memories) in that “love at first sight” scene.
There are MANY reasons crystal is ass and it's NOT because the manga it's based on has issues with pacing or bad writing or whatever else you wanna say. It's bad because TOEI didn't give a flying fuck about Sailor Moons legacy when they took the reins for a reboot. Clearly the 90s version WAS made with love and care which is why yall wanna keep glazing it 30 years later. 🙄 Crystal is good in screenshots only. The shots that they take DIRECTLY from the manga. That's all it is. Its a bunch of cool still shots that ppl who love the original manga wanted to see animated. And that's pretty much all we got because they did nothing to the story or plot to help it. 🤦♀️ Kinda wish OP knew more ppl in Fandom who aren't so quick to just shit on Crystal. Like I still think if you love sailor moon enough you'd appreciate something about watching Crystal. You just gotta go in ready for it. 😅
(sorry for bad grammar,im not vey good to speak english, please no hate,it's not my language). In my opinion,it's better the original/old sailor moon, the remake looks so dead, the characters and the animations are so good(but it looks a bit 3d and i prefer more a classic anime) but the characters in the remake(crystal) looks so emotionless,it looks very dead so that makes me feel strange so i prefer sailor moon the original. Anyways i unfortunately haven't watched it bevause i don't know where i can watch sailor moon for free in my country, because in some countries sailor moon returned for free in tv but in italy no :( . Im born in 2010 and there wasn't sailor moon when i was born in my country i think.
@Ale_Jupiter; So first I want to say, I don't generally go after people who don't speak (or in this case, write) English perfectly if I can tell it's not their first language. If I can understand what you're saying, which I can understand what you have said in your comment, then you're all good. However If you would be more comfortable commenting in your native language, that'd be fine too. I like Italian, it's a _bellissima_ language C; Second, I love the term you used to describe the animation. Dead. Because, quite frankly, all the small details that make animation look lively are completely absent in the show (for the most part). The personality, the dynamism, the facial expressions, even the body types of the characters, are all bland or generic. They look emotionless (another apt description) because the Crystal animators didn't put much effort at all into the characters emoting. You think about all the wild cartoonish facial expressions, movements, or even colors and lighting of Classic and Crystal in comparison looks quite... well, dead and emotionless. As for where you can watch Sailor Moon, there are several sites that provide both English and Japanese dubs of the show! As of now, these are all the ones I know of and have used personally: -aniwave.to -kickassanime.mx -kissanime.com.ru/kissanime-home.html Please be advised, you should have some _adblock software_ when interacting with these sites because they have a ton of ads. But you get to watch anime for free, so you take the good with the bad, lol. But if those sites don't work for you because of the country you're in, I suggest a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to help you get access to content available to other countries. I've heard good things about NordVPN, but here's an entire list of VPNs that are the most popular right now. So please research them out for yourself and pick the best one for you: www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-vpn-services Hopefully you won't need to go that far, but if you do, let me know how it works out for you so I can tell others in your situation what to do. _Grazie e buona fortuna per tutto_ C:
I only know their American DIC dub names 😂😂😂 took me a 2nd watch to realize Naru was Molly and Usage was Serena 😢😢😢 i dont like that DIC lost the rights
@MK_1Ultra; Lol, it's okay. I actually address this exact name difference in Part 2, to help all my DiC dub homies out there XD DiC has some excellent voice actors for this show, I will never claim otherwise. Serena's VA and Usagi's VA are honestly neck and neck for me in some scenes, specifically in the R Movie. That movie, if you haven't seen it in a while, please hear me: THAT MOVIE. IS SO. FREAKING. GOOD. Voice acting-wise, story-wise, animation-wise, everything-wise, it's so freakin' good. I highly encourage you to watch the DiC dub of the R Movie again and really listen for that voice acting cuz WOOOO BOY. It still gets me TToTT
That's a good question, Neil! I downloaded them from several of the anime websites I frequent, I can link them in a reply if you like. The Viz Dub is the source of most of my clips, the Sub footage comes from a translator called KickAssAnime, I believe. And of course I edit it a little to make the size fit 1080 aspect ratio and very rarely for color correction, cropping, etc. If you notice, the clips of Classic's openings are different colored and quality than the other footage. Those I just randomly picked up from RUclips or Tumblr, wherever I could find the creditless versions of the openings and endings. So yeah, I hope that helps some? XD Great unexpected question, Neil!
I can think of one benefit to bullet points. It’s financially viable. Just dump some exposition with a still shot of said character. No complicated drawing or animation. From a story standpoint it’s a shit reason….and I don’t know who made crystal but streaming as whole is bankrupting a lot of Hollywood.
I'm only 7 minutes in, and I wanted to say that the sub version you're using at 7:02 with color coded subtitles is actually a fan sub. I can't remember the name of the site where it originated, but it was a site where Japanese and English speaking fans worked together to make as accurate of a translation as possible. It doesn't change the charcter's lines to "fit with the times," unlike the Viz dub, or the subbed versions on Crunchy Roll and Hulu, or official subbed releases. Like in the episode where Usagi is afraid of putting on weight, and Motoki (the arcade guy) says "I think you should gain some weight instead. I think the chubby type is cuter than the really thin type." The Viz dub has him say "If anything, you could stand to gain some weight. Personally, I find curvy people to be much more attractive." It goes from "Chubby types (objectifying her body) are cuter to me," to "Curvy (chubby is a no-no nowadays) *people* (he says "people" and not types, making it gender neutral) are more attractive." Another plus of this fan sub is giving you additional context about the scene. 7:01 explains the meaning of Usagi's name, something that would immediately click with a Japanese viewer, but English speakers wouldn't get the reference. After typing all this, I'm going back the video, lol. I'm loving it so far!
@chewymew; Good eye! Yes indeed, I am using the KickAssAnime Fansubs, as they're my favorite fansub of the series! They have neat little tidbits for stuff like the word Youma and even the significance of characters' names and stuff. And they go the extra mile and translate the different signs and stuff in the backgrounds so that literally everything the viewer sees, they'll understand it. I adored that attention to detail and dedication, so I downloaded all of their Season 1 subs ^v^ The official translations never do that, as you've probably noticed, and that always annoyed me. Like, bruh, you're already taking an entire script and translating it, what's a couple more letters and words? Just to really make it a complete translation, ya know? But they just never delivered on that front. So screw that, I went with the KickAssAnime guys XD I remember that line from the Viz dub!! And I was like, "The hell was that?!" XD They totally switched it all around and even loss some of the meaning of what he was actually saying, ugh! I did not like that at all. Viz dub is pretty good generally speaking, but when you get to specifics like this, it just... _no_ X'DDD I'm glad you're enjoying the vid! I'm very happy to hear that, thanks for taking the time to comment C:
@saj-manthesonicfan1893 I actually forgot it was called KickAssAnime Fansubs lol. Thanks for reminding me. Unfortunately, they stopped subtitling the end credits songs in S and SuperS, along with signs in the background. I think it came back for Stars though. My other issue with KickAss fansubs is that I can't find HD upscales of SuperS and Stars anywhere. I had to commit heresy and AI upscale the episodes lol. They don't look as good as official releases, but it cleans them up just enough for my liking.
@chewymew; That's true, they don't have any HD episodes :/ (not the AI upscale, NOOOOO X'D) I actually use an AI upscaled version of Season 1's Opening for these videos. As you said, it cleaned it up just enough for my needs C:
The classic anime was great, I love it, BUT... the story makes ZERO sense. Every Sailor Moon arc connects to the past and the inevitable future of Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion. The classic anime forgets all about continuity and about crystal tokyo. That's why you have really stupid crap like Galaxia freeing Nehelenia just because... instead of doing it so she would force the sailor senshi to reveal their true powers and expose their sailor crystals. I think the classic anime had way better character development and made you care about the villains alot but the narrative was just so way off the mark.
The biggest difference for me between Classic and Crystal is that Classic has actual animation in every scene. By simplifying the detailed designs from the manga, this enabled the animators to focus on the emotional expressions and energetic nature of the characters and story. Whether for action scenes or comedic effect. Crystal has so little movement and has a minimal frame rate that in each scene outside of the Opening and Transformation sequence, feels stiff and clunky. Not to mention, no matter where you pause Crystal, it looks awful. The art and overall drawing quality of the characters looks so painfully awkward. For an adaptation that actively tried to capture the mature elegance of the original manga's art style, that drew inspiration from actual historical art and classic fashion magazines of the 90's, it fails miserably.
@librahoshino6752; That is a major difference, for sure. I would like to add that the simplifying of designs from the manga wasn't even extreme. It boils down to simplifying the hair, losing a few of the minor details in the Sailor Senshi's designs (Venus's chain around her waist, Rei's jewel on the bottom of her leotard, etc). But Classic kept everything that it could to keep the characters looking as close to their manga counterparts as possible. And I think that works extremely well. Plus, the anime did away with and ignored certain arbitrary upgrades to Senshi's designs (the Moon Tiara getting 3 different designs within 9 chapters was _insanity_ , the anime crew was just like "No. One tiara, that's it. We ain't making 2 new Moon Tiara Action animation sequences, ain't no way" XD) You're absolutely right, it feels incredibly stiff and clunky, that shot of the girls walking into Osa-P kills me every time X'DDD PNGs just getting expanded a little and moved down, it's hilarious. The artstyle completely fails, not just the source material, but just the craft of animation itself. How did we go from Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) to *this* then to Jujutsu Kaisen?? Like, what happened here??? It's crazy comparing Crystal's artstyle with animes that had less name recognition and that came out a little before and after it. O_o
Wrong so many times in under five minutes. The manga came out monthly and had a caprivated audience, thats how the anime happened. People liked Sailor V and Sailor Moon, and the lack of characterization on panel despite her notes and their actions exhibiting personalities Takeuchi wrote out is liekly a result of being rushed to make her manga and mistreated by the anime makers. I love the classic anime, but every character is made less complex in order to serve comedic gags. Usagi wasnt allowed to mature, Mamoru was turned from being an example of a healthy ideal boyfriend to basically being desgined to groom the audience to accept mistreatment from men, Makoto was turned into a full tomboy despite her whole character being about not judging a girl's personality by how big she is. Oh yeah, and the barely disguised fetishes shoved into a story about girls aged 14-16. The best version of the Dark Kingdom story is probably the live action adaptation that Takeuchi was able to influence without the sexism and overkill comedy the men making the old anime inserted. Crystal needs a remake already to actually follow the manga and not nerf the guardians (Sailor Moon doubting herself makes a lot more sense when she could only ever defeat underlings with Mars and Jupiter and later Venus defeating the Four Kings of Heaven, and make other unnecessary changes. Venus had all of her things taken from her, even her relationship with Kunzite was shared with the others instead of adding to the story of the team leaders falling in love alongside their monarchs doing the same.
"Off putting weirdo" she's loving and naive enough to not realize that a strange animal shouldn't be that close to your face. That's like when they had to have Mako fight guys instead of saving Usagi from being hit by a car. Gotta have the extra confrontations and appeal as much to boys as possible. Lol
First, Usagi grew up in both the anime and the manga. I'll even say more, she actually became stronger spiritually than Usagi from the manga, which is obvious if you compare the final battles of the first arc in both versions lol. Mamoru wasn't perfect in the 90s anime, but at least he wasn't the incredibly boring kiss kiss prince he was in the manga. I don't agree that Jupiter is just a tomboy in the anime, her feminine side is shown very well. I actually find the Sailor Moon central romance boring in both versions, but at least in the 90s anime it wasn't focused on as much, the show focused more on friendship than romance, and that's what I appreciate most about the show. I love the manga but it really annoys me how this boring romance takes up all the damn time lol
@@Бандера009 Ideal love interests are usually borin& because its t#e writers fantasy love.....not realistic love wit# problems and biolo&ical issues. I also prefer friends#ip, romance works only in small dosses at a time 🐈⬛
one of the things I hated when I saw the classic sailor moon clips is the relationship between usagi and Mamoru being toxic and troubled like sky x Bloom in Winx made me realize that not only is Usagi a brat in the Dark Kingdom arc until the R arc I realized that she stops being in the fillers and even the filler before the R arc and mamoru in the classic doesn't help much he's tough too much with usagi in serious episodes and even made usagi cries in the R arc and makes me think that the reincarnational and civil version of them doesn't suit Fits Princess Serenity and Prince Endyome like , Sailor moon crystal has the potential to be an adaptation of the manga but Toei animation with an eye on money rushed the series, did not put emotions like it did in the classic or a serious anime and did the 3 movies of Eternal and Cosmo to suck money from nostalgic idiot fans and funny Naoko at that time does not like classic Sailor moon and not even see she comments on the problems of the crystal, Eternal and Cosmo. also i hope me see your Compares classic Sailor Moon Star to the movie Cosmo, I want to see Being the Sailor Moon Cosmo is the better ending than the classic, good video
I prefer the original (VIZ meda) redub over Crystal too bad Precure ALSO owned by Toei will NEVER get the same VIZ media treatment EVER which still SUCKS speaking of Crystal I don't OWN a SINGLE VIAZ media DVD for it so I'm not sure if they EVER made Crystal on DVD up to at least Sailor Moon S.
Nothing wrong with the Viz Dub, not that I've noticed anyway. It's perfectly fine. I'm a Subs over Dubs guy though, so I'm always gonna prefer the original Japanese version. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've definitely seen both DVD and Blu-Rays of Crystal Season 3 floating around Amazon and Crunchyroll. Though I would never spend _my_ money on it, you're free to do what you want with _yours_ XD
Your meat riding to the next level the 90s anime is good but the manga or crystal anime is way better, because s is terrible and super s is super mid, It’s all in my opinion respectfully.
Plus the 90s anime characters are worst then the manga or crystal and the ending for the 90s anime is trash even Naoko Takeuchi hates the 90s anime it’s because it’s nothing like the manga
@@calebflores3000 Lol Naoko never hated the 90s anime. Plus she said that the final battle of season 1 was much better than finale battle of Dark kingdom arc (and I absolutely agree)
@@calebflores3000 ok it's your opinion, but lol you have to admit that final battle of first season of anime was lightyears better than final battle of the Dark Kingdom arc of the manga. Dark, sad, deep, heartwarming, bittersweet. What do we have in manga? Usagi tries to commit suicide, the Senshi sacrifice themselves to resurrect her, Usagi defeats Metalia and resurrects her friends, tadaam, happy end. That's all. In the anime Usagi really showed all her courage and fought to the end for this world that her fallen friends wanted to save, unlike her counterpart in the manga.
Animation: 90’s Story: Crystal (especially Season 3-Cosmos) After listening to your talking points, I still strongly disagree that 90’s is “Superior” to Crystal despite YES, the story does go by to fast, but Crystal’s story arcs are Stronger than 90’s I’ll take “destiny to be together” to them being bickering jerks to each other and It’s not CUTE There is NOTHING subtle from classic even on the rewatch. Only Arc the 90’s does better than Crystal is The Black Moon Arc. My biggest issue with 90’s is the fillers, 90’s character tropes, dumb Villains, Making Mamoru Useless and the anime is structured like a “monster of the week” Super Sentai show. Between the two is the Perfect Sailor Moon season. Also Crystal really pissed you off that much? Did someone is Toei screw you over? Does Naoko owe you money or something?
The thing I like tone about this anime is, it's START light-hearted and THEN turn dark. Which make darkness hit harder.
I know, right?!

Yes!
I'm just happy to be of service ;) I'm incredibly grateful that you took the time out of your life to make such a wonderful comment for me to enjoy TvT
You're 100% right, it's just an excellent show, period. That's it, no lines in the sand, no qualifiers. It's just plain phenomenal. And every part of it has immense thought and effort put into it and it deserves to be praised and enjoyed by as many people as possible. Like all great art :3
The fanservice complaint that never really made much sense to me was the panty shot thing...
But the writers did no care to drift off away from the manga a little more and to begin with the manga isn’t that good (understandably so, Naoko was in a very tight schedule too)😩it has way to much plot holes and issues and crystal is proof of that
Sadly pretty true an anime adaption in &ood #ands can #elp.
Yes finally! I’ve been hoping someone would make videos this. Like actually going through the episodes and comparing the two sailor moon animes. I am definitely subscribing can’t wait for part 2 of episode 1!

I loved this, and the editing was so good. Peak was Saphir's "he was a weirdo" moment. Excellent!

Thank you for existing too, buddy 👍
And then it came out and... well, these videos should tell you how I felt about it X'D
You're exactly right about the lack of charm and filler being a detriment to Crystal.
People need to be reminded of that every now and then C:
The manga's not that good, I'mma be honest.
I really work hard on the editing so that's nice to hear ^v^
And yes, Classic is just flat out good storytelling. Comparing it to Crystal just makes it far easier to explain why it's so good and subsequently, why Crystal is so flat out bad XD
OMG I thought I was the only one who got a migraine looking at Crystal's art! It was seriously painful, can't stand it to this day XP
I look forward to making more Sailor Moon content, especially since I get comments as nice as yours C:
Yasssssssssss. Excited to see this
I think part of the reason the manga feels so fast is because it was made at the same time as the classic anime and Naoko had to rush the story so it can catch up with the anime.
While in crystal it's the opposite instead of showing you they will tell you, sometimes both at the same time
This is amazing
50:50 I wanna say something like this to crystal defenders too by changing "fate" to "faith".
Coming back to add that i hope you hold onto the Crystal recorder cover as a running gag. It made me laugh every time!
Oh, for sure! That's my best bit in these videos X'D
Why thank you, you're too kind C:
The soundtrack for Sailor Moon Classic is honestly phenomenal, as is the sound design (sound effects, atmospheric sounds, etc.) It's really just incredible audio and visuals *and* storytelling. Which, as you've pointed out, makes Crystal look even worse in comparison. :/
You've hit the nail on the head! Narration is a really tricky thing to get right in a visual medium. You have to be super careful and deliberate with it for it to work, like in Fellowship of the Ring or the Spider-Verse movies. But Crystal just went the worst way about it so... >.>
Well, as you can probably tell by the vid, I completely disagree with the pacing and the lack of fleshing stuff out in Crystal. And the manga for that matter. You're right, I will get into more character details and the like in the next parts, but already it's night and day what they've done with Usagi and even characters like Umino & Naru in Classic vs Crystal. You're exactly right, it doesn't know what to save for later and what to properly focus on immediately and we end up with a sucky product as a result :/
I look forward to making more Sailor Moon videos! It's pretty rewarding, especially when I receive lovely comments like yours! Classic certainly beats Crystal, if not most anime in it's first episode and I was happy to prove that in these videos C:
to be fair their first meeting in crystal is quite like the one in the manga
One thing I will say though I personally don’t mind the love at first sight troupe just depends on how it’s done.
Who would kiss an alley cat?
In America…..you’d be surprised. I certainly am surprised out since 2019.
@pk5727; Fair enough, I'll rephrase: "Who *in their right mind* would kiss an alley cat?" There we go X'D
@@saj-manthesonicfan1893 I accept the rephrasing
Nice video it true! ❤
The original can be watched on toonami rewind every friday on Cartoon Network.
I actually prefer the Love at first sight trope than “Even though we loved eachother in another Life we hate eachother now”
@EliasTheEstory; I completely understand that perspective. There's a lot, and I do mean A LOT, that I'd like to say to the "Even though we loved each other in another life" point... but I don't want to spoil my future content, soooo X'D
For now, I'll just say this: If the disconnect for you is "Why are they acting different after reincarnation when no one else in the cast acts different?" then... I mean I don't wanna shamelessly plug my content but... I _humbly_ request that you gimme a couple _years_ to address that properly in these episode vids, okay? Because there's a lot more to the show's concept of reincarnation and the Destined Lovers trope than it initially appears X'D
Nonetheless, I do understand your position and I respect it ^^
Find it funny how people accuse the 90’s Usagi and Mamoru as only liking each other because of their memories when Crystal shows Mamoru only being interested in Usagi because he recognizes her from his dreams (the memories) in that “love at first sight” scene.
@@rivyr7029 Good point!
Crystal is good in screenshots only. The shots that they take DIRECTLY from the manga. That's all it is. Its a bunch of cool still shots that ppl who love the original manga wanted to see animated. And that's pretty much all we got because they did nothing to the story or plot to help it. 🤦♀️
Kinda wish OP knew more ppl in Fandom who aren't so quick to just shit on Crystal. Like I still think if you love sailor moon enough you'd appreciate something about watching Crystal. You just gotta go in ready for it. 😅
I'm just getting into this video. So, quick question: Will you be covering the fillers?
@Ale_Jupiter; So first I want to say, I don't generally go after people who don't speak (or in this case, write) English perfectly if I can tell it's not their first language. If I can understand what you're saying, which I can understand what you have said in your comment, then you're all good. However If you would be more comfortable commenting in your native language, that'd be fine too. I like Italian, it's a _bellissima_ language C;
Second, I love the term you used to describe the animation.
As of now, these are all the ones I know of and have used personally:
-aniwave.to
-kickassanime.mx
-kissanime.com.ru/kissanime-home.html
Please be advised, you should have some _adblock software_ when interacting with these sites because they have a ton of ads.
So please research them out for yourself and pick the best one for you: www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-vpn-services
Hopefully you won't need to go that far, but if you do, let me know how it works out for you so I can tell others in your situation what to do.

Where did you get this footage of the original SAILOR MOON? it looks better then The Viz Media Remastered USA Release THANKS!........ Neil 😁
Thanks for your replay Namaste!……

@@AnimeStarSky Of course! Did you want those anime sites, then? C:
I think the chubby type is cuter than the really thin type."
The Viz dub has him say "If anything, you could stand to gain some weight. Personally, I find curvy people to be much more attractive."
It goes from "Chubby types (objectifying her body) are cuter to me," to "Curvy (chubby is a no-no nowadays) *people* (he says "people" and not types, making it gender neutral) are more attractive."
Another plus of this fan sub is giving you additional context about the scene.
I adored that attention to detail and dedication, so I downloaded all of their Season 1 subs ^v^
The official translations never do that, as you've probably noticed, and that always annoyed me. Like, bruh, you're already taking an entire script and translating it, what's a couple more letters and words? Just to really make it a complete translation, ya know? But they just never delivered on that front. So screw that, I went with the KickAssAnime guys XD
I remember that line from the Viz dub!! And I was like, "The hell was that?!" XD They totally switched it all around and even loss some of the meaning of what he was actually saying, ugh! I did not like that at all. Viz dub is pretty good generally speaking, but when you get to specifics like this, it just... _no_ X'DDD
I'm glad you're enjoying the vid!
@chewymew; That's true, they don't have any HD episodes :/ (not the AI upscale, NOOOOO X'D)
I actually use an AI upscaled version of Season 1's Opening for these videos.
It's Queen Beryl, not Beru
We ain't making 2 new Moon Tiara Action animation sequences, ain't no way" XD)
You're absolutely right, it feels incredibly stiff and clunky, that shot of the girls walking into Osa-P kills me every time X'DDD PNGs just getting expanded a little and moved down, it's hilarious.
have u not watched pgsm?
Yes, I have... I'm confused, did I say something about it in the vid?? XD
MamoRei best ship!!!
@@MoonsSky-h1j I think it's UsaRei🔥❤️🐇
@@Бандера009 I can see that too
Wrong so many times in under five minutes.
Cosmos blows season 5 out of the water.
I've definitely seen both DVD and Blu-Rays of Crystal Season 3 floating around Amazon and Crunchyroll.
At least the first season was absolutely amasing, unlike the rather mediocre first arc of the manga
@@Бандера009 the manga is so much better than 90s anime
Animation: 90’s
Story: Crystal (especially Season 3-Cosmos)
After listening to your talking points, I still strongly disagree that 90’s is “Superior” to Crystal despite YES, the story does go by to fast, but Crystal’s story arcs are Stronger than 90’s
I’ll take “destiny to be together” to them being bickering jerks to each other and It’s not CUTE
There is NOTHING subtle from classic even on the rewatch.
