What I do remember is my mom used to use what was called "Pet Milk", very thick, very rich...soooo good. She also used to make something similar using rice instead of oats.

When I make oatmeal porridge, I love to add cinnamon as well, but I add in loads of raisins, toasted nuts, diced apple bites and a drizzle of maple syrup. Of course I have milk and some brown sugar too. No matter how we fixed it, oatmeal was always a favorite warming meal. Your oatmeal sounds divine. Many years ago my best friend made a 'celebration' thing in a big pot. I went to visit her after she left an extremely abusive relationship. It was oatmeal that had been simmering ALL DAY, in milk, cream and spices, she added vanilla, and some toasted almonds, raisins and it was just like hot ice cream! Ohhmy I have never seen anything similar or like it until now. It was better than any ice cream I have ever had, and didn't even taste like oatmeal. What a celebration! I think I will make this in her honor!
