Absolutely brilliant, thanks. Top tip with the glass! To be honest if I’d been doing this blind I’d have stopped at the glass bit and given up for fear of breaking the glass or the wonder mech. But your solution is so simple! I’ll try this this weekend 👍🏻
Thanks for the video, sorted the locking on my van. I too struggled with the conecter release from the module, had to undo the module then drop it down still conected to see better how it unclipped. Thanks again 👍
Not all heroes wear capes!! Thanks for doing this video, I've been having problems with mine for a couple of years. I keep putting it off because I could never find decent instruction/videos. I bought the replacement parts well over 18 months ago and Your video is going to be a godsend. 👍
Brilliant, your video encouraged me to change my locking mechanism which I have been putting off for months due to lack of info/confidence! All sorted now and works a treat! Thanks once again.
Thanks so much for this video, I followed your instructions to the letter & completed the task within a couple of hours... there is no way I could have figured out how to do this without your step by step guide, so thank you once a again!
Great video Lee, all I would add is to suggest that folks disconnect the window motor, because mine seemed to have a life of their own going up and down randomly whilst I was replacing the lock!
Good video thank you. I few things I have come across while doing mine. 1 you dont need to remove the cap on the lock, as it will come out when you remove it the lock anyway. 2 when I started I thought I had all the tools I needed, but I found my Torx bit extension was to fat to fit in hole in door, so I bodged a flexible one by filing it down.
Thanks so much, it's true, no one has done a video on this. I even looked all over in the German language first. I was especially glad to see how you handled the window.
Just done mine. When you replace an original one, mine was 16 years old, it has a plastic bracket on the lock which is riveted to both the lock and door casing. The rivets need drilling out to get the case off. When I fit the new lock, I left that bracket riveted to the old lock. If your door wont close after fitting the new lock, check and adjust the alignment. It's quite fussy.
Hoping you see this. A lot of the ones I'm looking to order just look like they come without the white plastic casing thats on the original. Are you saying you just fitted a new one as it came, without the white casing( as is on the original)?
@@Ccfc595 long time ago so honestly i don't remember. I would have made sure it went back as it should be so if something was missing on the new part then I would have added the old bracket to it or whatever we're talking about. I would remember if there were any major issues fitting it, probably obvious once you get in there and do it.
@Martin_84 Thanks Martin. Weird one to be honest as the new ones look like they dont come with the lock pin (bit that pops up and down in the door card when locking and unlocking)
Thanks for this video. Did mine today. Took ages to get the plastic part off the passenger door exterior. 😬. All working ok now... I wont get locked inside now 😂
Thank you Lee, this video was a great help to me I really appreciate you putting this video out, I brocken my cable sorting my speaker out which was driving me mad vibrating, but all good now, and no vibrating speaker ,thanks to your good self, nice one
Thanks SpyderLEE I have exactly that issue, been bugging me for months! you are brilliant, just need to find someone to do this for me! my t5 is 1994 2.5 tdi hope it doesn't have the steel plate covering the glass. Will defiantly buy vw part second hand. Cheers mate.
How do you disconnect the wiring block connector from the lock unit??? Great video by the way,I'm replacing the window regular panel, very helpful just can't get past the block connector.
Excellent I was having trouble with mine and now I know how to remove the door panel I didn’t have a clue yesterday until I checked this out today many thanks
Thanks so much, without this video l would still be attempting to replace the lock at Christmas...Being thick even l could follow these instructions and tips...Keep up the great work. Cheers :-)
Thank you for posting this video, it certainly helps with all the unexpected bits having seen someone else do it, I used an eBay lock, let's see how long it lasts 👍🚐
Excellent video. Now what about a locked passenger door when you kill the handle inside it’s double locked so lath goes up but straight back down. Can’t get into the passenger door from inside and outside!
Awesome video, thanks - I’m having trouble with a few things. Firstly, getting that plug off the lock actuator when it’s still mounted in the door - any ideas? Also when I reassembled the door plate and door card, I’m finding that my (manual) window winds up OK most of the way, but suddenly feels more difficult to raise the last 3 inches to the top. What have I done wrong here?
Brilliant video just about to undertake this myself on my t5. Sadly I think the sliding door mechanism is broken to. Very intermittent to work. Anyway cheers for the info
I want to just get a good look at the central locking unit for same door on my 08 T5, so o can order a new one for the auto electrician to install, and check if something is just loose in there the lock button moves a bit when I press the remote but not enough to do anything. Can I just remove the panel inside the door card to see the central locking unit and check if anything is loose in there. Don’t think I could get lock out with only one arm.
This video has given me the confidence to tackle my faulty central lock in the passenger door, many thanks! What did you search for to find a second hand OEM unit? When I search it seems to come up with golf versions, are they the same?
This is really helpful thanks! I need to do this but my electric window motor has also failed so I can’t do the step where you masking tape the glass up. Is there a workaround or another way to do that step that you know of?
Can I ask when you broke the release cable catch, did you replace it or can it be refitted even though the plastic has snapped??,im in that position now, cheers….
Great video Lee. Both my passenger and driver's door locks are on their way out. It's a right pain especially the passenger door as you need to open it to fuel up and no key lock option on passenger side. Also, are you planning to do one for the mirrors as want to upgrade to electric mirrors. Unsure how to go about it and can't find anything on youtube?.
Good video! Nice little tips and informative. I also noticed you haven't done the additional door seal upgrade you should look into them what a difference it makes when closing the door.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this, so helpful. One quick question please; I’m struggling to find a genuine used lock on eBay, is a Mk5 Golf lock a suitable replacement?
Fantastic video. I'd have full confidence using this as a guide. I have 2 questions Lee, how do I problem solve this for my passenger door, I think I have the same issue with my motor unit, but how do I find out before I strip it all down? Also, my alarm LED has stopped flashing along time ago, I don't know if this is connected, but I removed my drivers seat a few years back and I have a long loom with a small 5 hole connector coming out by the bonnet release lever which headed in the direction of the drivers seat.....thanks
Hey, unwrap the loom under youre drivers seat and they is allways a corroded bad connection,i also squirted WD 40 into my lock, and the red led started working again.
Hello mate, ive recently brought my 1st T5 & have an intermittent drivers lock problem same as yours, but also the side door sometimes doesn't open when you press the key button, do think if I change the lock like you did it would solve the side door issue too? Thanks for the video👍🏻👍🏻
Hi. I doubt it will solve your side door issue too. That’ll either be the lock in that door too or the wiring near the central locking unit. They are known for corroding. A google search should find a video on the wiring issue 👍
Really good actually out of my 3 cars it’s the most smoothest running. I’m doing a video on mapping as soon as I get chance. I had it mapped 6 months ago and it’s super high mileage

One of the better 'how to do it' videos out there. Well done.
Brilliant, your video encouraged me to change my locking mechanism which I have been putting off for months due to lack of info/confidence! All sorted now and works a treat! Thanks once again.
Thanks. I had to watch this video myself not so long back so I could do the other side as I’d forgot how to.
Thanks so much for this video, I followed your instructions to the letter & completed the task within a couple of hours... there is no way I could have figured out how to do this without your step by step guide, so thank you once a again!
I like how you've kept the original T5 front and funked it up rather than going 5.1 👍 looks great
Great video Lee, all I would add is to suggest that folks disconnect the window motor, because mine seemed to have a life of their own going up and down randomly whilst I was replacing the lock!
Lol sounds very random!
Thanks for this. Swapped out passenger side actuator today. Couldn't have done it without your vid. Much appreciated 👍
Good video thank you.

My cap won't come off, have backed the screw right out.
Great guide, made it easy. Just don't put your window all the way down when trying to remove the metal door card.
Thanks so much, it's true, no one has done a video on this. I even looked all over in the German language first. I was especially glad to see how you handled the window.
Wish I watched this at the start and not half way through after getting stuck... GREAT VID THANKS!!!

Perfect, this is exactly what wrong on our T5. Very helpful!
Thanks for this mate, done the drivers side today, took me longer to release that clip under the module than to do the rest 👍🏻
Just changed mine. Saved ££££££s by following this video. Cheers Mate. 👍
Thanks a lot for this. I used it today to replace locks in both doors and it was very helpful - cheers!
Thanks I think you just solved two problems for me. Windows are sticking watching this video I think I need to check those bolts
JUst fiited a new lock unit in drivers door and new windows switch this helped greatly cheers.
I don't even own one but love watching the videos on the camper.
Very helpful thank you. I have just finished doing this on my T5 passenger door
Thanks for the video it helped massively for replacing the central locking module on my T5
Great job. I will do the same tomorrow. Thank you for the tutorial
Great job fixing it with one hand whilst filming. 👍🚐
Thanks mate, couldn’t find all of this info together anywhere. Subbed
Just what i needed, thank you for making this video!
Thanks SpyderLEE

Dude thank you so much, just fixed the passenger side on my 2006 Transporter by following your vid, massive help!
Nice job. Thanks for posting 👍
Brilliant, thank you. Only my back doors lock ! Incidentally I’ve done 180,000 miles on the same clutch, is that unusual ?
Great video mate. Helped me out changing me passenger lock. Cheers
Excellent vid thank you your method works perfectly. I used a phone holder suction cup. I had no tape😂
Great video.I needed to disable ( for a short time ) the passenger central locking and your video was perfect.
Thanks.
How do you disconnect the wiring block connector from the lock unit??? Great video by the way,I'm replacing the window regular panel, very helpful just can't get past the block connector.
Love to see you doing a passenger door when it's deadlocked and won't open at all.
YEAH THAT'S MY PROBLEM TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video, worked perfectly
bloody brilliant matey, clear and concise,,, magic
Excellent I was having trouble with mine and now I know how to remove the door panel I didn’t have a clue yesterday until I checked this out today many thanks
Ok will search out howto thanks mate , I will let you know how I get on!
Thanks so much, without this video l would still be attempting to replace the lock at Christmas...Being thick even l could follow these instructions and tips...Keep up the great work. Cheers :-)

Great video. Doesn't look too daunting.
just managed to sort the lock thanks to this video, nice one!

Brilliant video just about to undertake this myself on my t5. Sadly I think the sliding door mechanism is broken to. Very intermittent to work. Anyway

My sliding door is too. I will change it eventually 👍
Thanks Lee, done this today on passenger side. Great vid!
Brilliant!! Thank you for your awesome video.. One handed replacement !! impressive! You've inspired me!
Excellent instructions, just done both front doors, thank you for taking the time to do this.
Love your videos and your van.

Hi Lee many thanks for the Video great help just followed it makes the job less daunting

Bloody brilliant thank you!!
Best video ever
Nice job, thanks for the video !
nice, my door just has the same problem, gonna try this next week, thx ;-)
Nice on bud, did that on mine (passengers side) a few weeks back but didn't have the time to record it as well. Top video as always! 😎♥️
Cheers mate. I had the advantage of already taking off the lock the week before to see if that was the problem. So knew how to do it quickly 😬
Hey what did you fing as i have the same issue!
Can I ask when you broke the release cable catch, did you replace it or can it be refitted even though the plastic has snapped??,im in that position now, cheers….
Hi thanks for the video it has inspired a solo effort on my van but can you suggest a reliable supplier of the used part you used?
That's great information to know universally.
😀 cheers
Great video buddy...i have the same problem. Going to do it myself now

I was hoping to paint the insides of the doors first, but like usual not got around to it.

My only problem is that the door is closed and won't open 😢
