The demo will not only showcase GPL's modern features, but also encourage new drivers to join us.
The demo is also a tribute to the original Papyrus team that developed GPL back in 1998 and the many modders (654 listed in the movie credits) who have kept this racing simulation alive and vibrant for the last 22 years. Thanks to all the talented people who created GPL and the mods and tracks that made the 2020 Demo possible.
The demo is based on the previously released Legends of GPL mod, but includes updated graphics for cars and tracks.
The included cars are the championship driver's car from each the of the mod years and the iconic 1967 Lotus 49 which Graham Hill used to win the driver's championship in 1968.

The included tracks are:
1. Road America 1971
2. Sebring 1967
3. Monza 10K
4. Zandvoort
Although the cars use updated graphics, their physics are the same as their original mods. For example, the '55 Mercedes W196 uses its physics from the '55 F1 Mod, .etc. The mod uses a special patch to ensure that each car's physics is identical to the original. As a result, each car performs and feels the same as always.
The demo is a complete GPL installation and can be used to install full versions of all previously released mods.
Be sure to view the Read Me instructions before installing the mod. The mod includes an automatic installer program, but you can manually install instead if desired.

Come a long way since I put the demo excitedly onto my new Windows 98 machine only to see it stand there doing nothing because the machine could not cope.

1) The full game Grand Prix Legends (GPL) was launched in 1998.

No, unfortunately there isn't. The GPL 2020 Demo is based on the English version of the game. The language is hardcoded in the .exe and can not be changed. Well, at least not until today. ;)

what kind of software do you use to create the mods ?
Several programs are used. Since GPL is from 1998, most of the programs for modding GPL are also quite old and not easy to use. In some rare cases, newer software can also be used. Check SRMZ and GPLRepository for more info and ask the experts who mod GPL (I am not one of them).
Is there any way to alter the FOV and/or seat position?
I've tried GEM+ which has an FOV setting, but that program doesn't recognise the demo executable.
When I create a player using the gpl.exe and then activate it through GEM+ I can get into the game, but it won't let me actually start a training/race/championship (trying multiplayer just quits the program).
The GPL Head Movement patch can change the FOV and position in the Demo. See gplmotorworks.gplworld.de/

The GPL 2020 Demo does not have any time limit. Did you change anything on the demo? Did you change anything on your PC system? If you can not get it to work again pls go to the GPL 2020 Demo subforum @ SRMZ and ask for help (the registration is free): srmz.net/index.php?showforum=194
Why on earth would you have a chick song playing instead of hearing the music of the exhaust of those cars? One of the great features of GPL was the SOUNDS!!!

Seems pretty strange having a demo when the game is no longer available.
GPL is still available on eBay, Amazon or other online shops. Also search via Google for Grand Prix Legends. I am sure you will find it. ;)

Okay i pretty sure there was no need for that .....umm...music ! The soundtrack of those cars would have been soooo much nicer !
It's a matter of taste. Plus a question of video editing as you sometimes have no sound of a car that is far away in the distance. And no sound at all in some places would also be strange. Btw the last scenes have engine sounds and music together.
Yeah, one of the best sounds in a videogame and then kill it with music? whyyyyy

What do you mean with "still demo". It is just a demonstration of how the GPL community has developed the game in over more than 20 years. The full game has been released in 1998.

How do I race online with the demo?
With the GPL 2020 Demo you can play a Multiplayer game. You just have to enter the IP in the multiplayer menu of another PC in your home network or enter the IP of a PC on the internet that is hosting.
But with this Demo you do not have access to the iGOR racelist that displays the list of all available dedicated GPL server. Therefore you would need the full version of Grand Prix Legends. Then you can use GPLSecrets that includes the programs GEM+ and iGOR (interactive GPL Online Racing). I found a bug: I was doing a Grand Prix Race of 36 laps at Sebring with the Mercedes W196 (1955); due to my ridiculous keyboard I have to drive with automatic shifter. On the ninth lap of the race without any crash my engine suddenly blew up.
It happens me 2 times, the second one was on the sixth lap (another race always at Sebring) .
I think that with automatic shifter it couldn't happens.
What do you think?
