It is great to see Richie Axelson back on track! Could we maybe see a “Let’s race Grand Prix Legends” in the wonderful new 68 mod in the new year? I sincerely hope so! Congratulations to the immortal GPL community on keeping the ultimate sim alive. Happy new year, GPLaps and to all at GPL!
This takes me back! You drove well, GPL is not an easy SIM to master. Somewhere there's a nice Matra MS11 skin that I made for the original version of the game, lurking on an old hard drive..Seeing this makes me want to build another drive sim! The 49 was a beautifully balanced car to drive. Thanks for the upload!
Looking back to the early days, the graphics have improved so much ... Oulton is gorgeous. I also love that add-on that provides for the notchy rev-counter movement... so realistic 😀.
This mod looks awesome, and it shows how close the modern circuit is to the original. I am currently working on the modern version for Assetto Corsa (track and verges laid out, pit building and infield blocked out and now ready to start getting it exported to test in the sim) and I could picture where the modern features are placed over the original track. Loved all the gpl videos you've done, looking forward to a season role play with this mod from you :)
Totally engrossing, your passion and enthusiasm shines through, live commentarys brilliant, and your racing ain't to shabby either , lol, keep up with your fantastic work ;)
At a distance from directly behind, some of these cars look like early 90s F1. But once you close in and get an angle you can see the wing is inset far more than one from that era. Kept tripping me out in the beginning of the race.😂
Fantastic video, it’s great that you choose Oulton Park, a beautiful track. For a bit of interesting back story check out the video by “Blaster Bates”, “The naming of Knickerbrook”. He was an explosives expert who was called in to remove some trees when they were turning Oulton Park into a track in the 1950’s. A bit of a warning through the subject matter isn’t suitable for juniors :)
A short race. but an epic drive in the underpowered Cooper: you did very well to get that podium, well done! Great vid, I hope you'll do a full '68 Championship season at some point. Love that new 68 mod, just downloaded it today- and had a quick run in the dreaded Honda RA 302 at Rouen. Spooky stuff!
FINALLY!!!! This will be the best way to begin 2020! I knew it was about to break out but not so soon! Oh dear, i can't wait tomorrow to thunder down Masta with these "winged" beasts! :D MAY GRAND PRIX LEGENDS NEVER DIE!
KnickerBROOK, BROOK, BROOK, BROOK, BROOK, BROOK!!! Wound me up more than it should 🤣 Quintessentially British story lends itself to the corners naming; Apparently, a couple were caught getting 'fruity' in the area and after running off, it was found the lady had left her *Knickers* (Panties) by the *Brook* and thus, the corners name was born 👍 Great GPL video and driving as usual btw 👌 Oulton isn't, as mentioned, much different today and is highly recommended as a place to go and spend the day watching motor racing. Tbf, it doesn't lend itself to car racing these days as it's too narrow but the bikes are amazing! The retro Gold Cup meet is something else too. Old Cars blasting round the grounds of a country house on a late August day...Fan-bloody-tastic!
So GPL is still going. I played it from 1998 to about 2008. I worked on some of the early mods with guys like Paul Thurston and Patterson. Spent many late nights digging through the code so my wife started calling me codehound. :) I am glad people are still enjoying GPL. Gene Fryman
Yes ndeed. Igot my GPL out of the box, rooted around for the mods, and am having a blast.Isle of Man full course was something I waited many years to run. Just downloaded this track
Looks great! I downloaded the Mod and I downloaded Oulton park because it looks cool. Keep getting the error loading track message. Maybe I should try to install it as admin?
@Anthony Petro Ended up working in the end. Seems to be working properly now. Only thing I'm stuck on now is how to get my TH8A H-pattern shifter to work with GPL. I've heard of GPLShift, but last update seems to be from 2010, before the TH8A even came out.
@Anthony Petro Thanks, I'll give that a try. By the way, it was the GPL 2004 demo iso I installed, do you know if the demo with all the mods installed is just the same as the full version? Because I'm contemplating buying the GPL CD online somewhere, but not certain I'll need to.
Brilliant. I hated the wings on the real cars (feel free to call me a Luddite!) . especially the dangerous and ridiculous contraptions that emerged in 1968. That being said, I LOVE your video. What a treat as always! Thank you! Happy Holidays!
@@daren42 Chris Amon said, after he appeared at Monza with what he descibed as "that piddly little wing" and outqualified the field by a couple of seconds{at which point every other team decided they needed wings}"What they didnt know was that I had gone out without the wing and did EXACTLY the same time, what you gained on the straights, you lost in the corners." He thought wings would ruin F1. Happy New Year!
I wouldn't mind seeing the 1970 F1 mod come to fruition, but I don't think it needs to go any later than that. Likewise, 1971 might be a good final year for the Sportscars, though I could accept as late as 1973 (last year the Targa was a WC round, last year of Monza with no chicanes, cars still very much in a transition phase). Bruce McLaren was likely busy with Can-Am at this point in 1968. This would have been the 2nd year of the Bruce and Denny show in the playground of the Group 7 beasts. This is one of the rare Games which has not lost his Fascination.I loved it as a Kid and i hatet it.The Cars and the brutal Sounds are Amazing but playing it with a Joystick and no Clue about car setup was a Nightmare.
Great video as usual. I love your comments of historical interest. Do you play from the old discs or is it all downloadable? I own the discs. Just wondering how to get back into it. What type wheel and pedals do you use?
I originally installed from the disk but you can download the full game easy enough. Look at my video on the 2020 demo if you want an easy way in, or if you have the disk/an ISO file use the GPLPS installer to install the full game.
it really sucks trying to find all the tracks for these mods, that's the original reason i quit this sim, if there were a package with everything compiled together that would be really nice
Were you born after the early 90s? both 8 and 16 bit were done and dusted by then. GPL was very nearly perfect on release so it'll hold up well forever.
@@thomassmith4999 I asume you can't recognise sarcasm? I was refering to the bad graphix this game has (compared to other recent racing games). It still looks like the graphics they used when the original GPL was released and that was nearly 30 years ago.

I used to play GPL a lot. Nice to see people still enjoying it.

Great work by all the devs! It’s great to see GPL alive and kicking 21 years later...
Oulton Park is just around the corner from me so I loved watching this!

Great video! GPL really drives home the need to be brave in order to race these dangerous machines.
This game holds up well. The only thing that drives me crazy is the gear shift moving before the hand moves to it.
Willow springs has also been the exact same since it was built if I remember.
Happy New year. Great video
The fact that shifter is moving before the hand gives the idea that driver is going in reverse like in tenet movie
Damn, was hoping there were a few more laps by the end. Great racing as always
A GPL video! My day has been made! :)
I’m still hoping for a 1961 mod someday to complete it for me.
Great video. Hope you've had a good Xmas and wishing you a happy New Year
Christmas is now perfect.
My favourite RUclipsr is back!!!
Our GP Legend has returned.
Cooper didn't want to take the Ford Cosworth DFV because of their association with the Mini and BMC.
WOW... Awesome... I just bought GP legends sealed from Ebay.. Cant wait to get it

4:38 this is the spot where Yannick had his... big crash
Is there a clip of it?

Nice stuff! Jackie Stewart will be pissed about that one
It was the first proper year of the most successful F1 engine of all time, the Ford Cosworth.
Good to see you back. How about a 1968 entire season?
Is this game´s engine really dated from 1998? Hard to belive...

What A.I. speed would you recommend this at?
New mod out and everything, would love to try it, but I still can't get GPL to run on my computer.
I know the feeling
@Anthony Petro I downloaded the mod but on gem+ there is no carsett for the 1968 cars so it does not work
@Anthony Petro thanks for the help. I will try and come back to u but trying to sort it out

Knickerbrook. There's a stream running under the track there feeding the lake.

You're losing so much time on the banked turn; start higher and cut it straighter, or stay higher overall, you're going too low and slow.
So for the devs and for your fans: you have to do a full '68 season, now, don't you?! 😉
You should Make more vids I really enjoy all of them.
why i cant load any track in this mod? i isntalled everything and i used gem+, but when i switched to the 68 mod, i cant load any track???
I always forget that Cooper was an f1 team at one point lol.
Sir Jack was a true Champion.
1st lol. Love your videos. They helped to rekindle my love of sim racing a year or so back👍🏿
Wait, what? People are still using this sim? I might need to reload it and try out the mod.
So, how about reviving the 1966 season and on? hehehe
Why the rev counter does not turn smooth ?
Don't know how you do it, but for me at the first corner it's like i'm a magnet ; the A.I. is coming after me to push me out.
GPL FOR EVER
If this game was on console, i'd def buy it and play it

36fps, ai dont work well in 60
