it's actually a '73. In '74 they got fiberglass covers and the weight dropped from 72 lbs. to 66 lbs.. For some reason, the original '62 version only weighs 55 lbs..
I have the exact same motor as you but i am having air leak somewhere near the carburetor gasket and engine. I replaced all gaskets on mine yet it still is not revving to its maximum
I have an identical motor and have been having some issues. It idles no problem but when i throttle it it kills. any idea what this may be? the wires are also frayed in some areas, wondering if you have any suggestions on where to order these parts from. the serial number of my motor is 7000400
@@nostartnoproblem849 I fixed the frayed wires and it’s running okay in the bucket. Blue smoke coming out of the water… burning oil? I still haven’t cleaned the carb, it seems too daunting
The smoke is normal especially in a bucket it has no where to go.as for the carb just take your time and taking pictures helps to remember where everything goes.

Carb flange might need to be resurfaced? Did you get all the old gaskets off the surfaces good?

I'd start with cleaning the carburetor.parts are getting hard to find. Try oldmercs.com or eBay

Shift to Neutral. It will not start in gear.
