    We had both a 7.5 and 9.8. As a kid, I used to take the 9.8 and leave the 7.5 for my dad. haha. Even just the sound of this running brings back some very fond memories. Thanks for posting. :)

    My Grandfather had a 1981 80hp Thunderbolt so I have a soft place in my heart for old mercs.

      Have you got any 9.8 carburetors for another old junk boat motor carburetor

      Sorry I don't have any as I never had a 9.8. Always wanted one as a kid but never had one.

    Thunderbolt 110 are closer to 12 horsepower. In 1984 the regulations changed for Dyno testing outboard motors, because some of the manufacturers were under-rating their engines to beat the competition

      Okay so 9.8 Mercs are actual tanks. not even being run properly & still just chugs along anyway.

      I think it can go up to 20mph if I remember right. Just in case I'm wrong on this I'll say 15mph.

    Do I really need a demo of a well running 9.8 110 merc motor? Mine runs at this time only on 1pot. So how do I test for fire on the other cylinder?

    My ‘82 110 thunderbolt on a 12ft v-hull Klamath will do 34kph, no idea what that is in nots but its got plenty of power for a 9.8

    • @Bigtime_mcalpine
      @Bigtime_mcalpine  4 месяца назад +1

      Agreed. 16kts = 30kph so that’s close and more than fast enough for a little tin boat.

      50:1 will do it. As for connector, just the usual strange looking mercury connector from 80/90’s motors

    What blade prop do you have on? I have the exact same motor and am only getting 13.5 mph, if I convert kt correctly you are around 19 mph. Anything else you have done to achieve the higher speeds?

    • @tapinwithted

      I’m only getting 13 mph too, that’s with 2 batteries, anchor, fuel tank, and light tackle

      It's even worse this year for me, past weekend I was only getting 11 MPH. I have to find the rpm range of this motor, I bought a tach for it. I'm half wondering if it just needs to be tuned properly. Or the motor is just getting old.
