These old episodes bring back so much nostalgia... Blockbuster Video rentals Witches of Eastwick (back when Cher & Jack Nicholson were huge box office draws) Harry & the Hendersons Etc. It's weird to realize that these two good men (Siskel & Ebert) are dead now and that so many years have flown by so quickly! Watching these videos and seeing how full of life they were is a bit sad at the same time...
The Untouchables, Harry & the Hendersons and Witches of Eastwick. What a great week for movies and so glad I saw them all in the theater. Yes, I'm totally bragging.
I remember going to a video store called super duper home videos. I used to love looking at the covers of all these horror films; but I will always remember in the documentary section the sleeve covers of these films. No pictures on the box, but I knew it was something different/wrong?!
"Harry and the Hendersons," probably works great as a kids movie. Yep. I was an 8 or so year old kid when it came out and I loved/love it. I really grew to love that corny song at the end as an adult. It's a tear jerker.

There are many great things in it the music the great performance from Connery, the dialogue and some thrilling action scenes. I do have misgivings in it however Robert Deniro who mind you was still a legend at the time put in a terrible performance as Capone. A mixed bag for me but still very much worth seeing.
It's cheesy as hell ... It's actually pretty bad. The scene on the stairway I felt like I was watching The Naked Gun or something ... I was thinking.. Are they trying to make this purposely bad?
What are you talking about?? It's a great movie. The cinematography was fantastic. The acting was great. Sean Connery finally got an Oscar for his role in this movie. Eliot Ness was naive and sweet until he learns how tough he has to be. These scenes... like Capone beating the guy to death are absolute classics.
I appreciate how often Roger calls out extreme misogyny in films. It’s interesting that neither suggested that parents could and maybe should talk with their kids about the videos. They acknowledge the potential harm being done by seeing them, but the focus is all on prevention, nothing about what the many, many kids who’ve seen them might need.
I always thought Kevin Costner could revist his character Elliot Ness but this time as a aging alcoholic trying to solve the torso murders in cleveland and his failed bid for mayor
I mean, I was the target age in 1987, and "Faces of Death" was absolutely a thing, but I never once heard of any teenage friends holding "video nasty parties" 🤣

I know that's right, i thought all three of this films were, two of them made the best films of 1987 harry and the hendersons (the best family film since e.t. and gremlins) and the untouchables was a classic and of the witches of eastwick is pretty good, all 4 of them deliver good performances.
I didn't usually disagree with Roger, but I do here. I loved The Untouchables. I don't understand his review. There were great scenes I still remember: the church, the interrogation, the baseball bat, the baby carriage, the record player, the roof, etc. There were so many great scenes in TU. Costner was a little subdued, but Connery & Garcia made up for it. Deniro was fine. The villains were menacing. I'm going to watch TU again. RIP. I am still a fan of Roger. :)
The way they described my lovely slumber parties. But they got the movies wrong. Our favs were Blood Feast, Dead/Alive, and Street Trash. (Honorable mention for Re-Animator and Castle Freak) 😁😂
I think Roger was simply disappointed by The Untouchables because he expected better given the considerable talent involved. I like The Untouchables but compared to De Palma's great works like Sisters, Carrie, Blow Out and Carlito's Way, it's a modest achievement.
They both missed the mark on Harry and the Hendersons. I loved it as a kid and love it today. I actually do think Untouchables was a bit overrated. Didn’t like the score or the acting. Never saw Witches of Eastwick.

it`s a a really different style of movie than DePalma`s suspense thrillers.. Costner was really wooden.... though I liked the movie..
