'Christine', the novel, rode on a horror-thriller frame, but the story was really about early friendship, and the way it dissolves along with our youth. It is heartbreaking in its own gruesome way, thanks to Stephen King.

True story. When I was seven, I went to a friend's birthday party where the Highlight was gathering everyone around to pop in a videocassette of Thriller. While Siskel and Ebert have reasonable criticisms in terms of how derivative the work is Michael Jackson's and John Landis's earlier work, it's still just great fun and less reminiscent of earlier horror movies than it is of the experience of staying up late at night to watch a Creature Feature with a good host introducing the work.
