You know what ? I think this was true 'banter' between these guys. They knew exactly what was going on. And what was required. But, perhaps more importantly . They stayed true to themselves. RIP both. Great critics.

Reading about this in the interview in Playboy Magazine (1991), the critics told the interviewer that they didn't like working with scripts. They like to come off as natural as possible. These two have seemed to mastered the art of it, knowing what to expect from the other.

Going after Overboard..😅....Probably Goldie’s most beloved comedies...They even had reboot that failed miserably..

I really enjoyed watching Overboard over and over on cable after it came out. The panties in the glove compartment scene is pure gold...

Roddy McDowell saved the movie. He gave it heart and some gravity, as the servant who understood both lead characters and helped nudge them together. If I were Edward Herrmann and Katherine Helmond, I would have sued the screenwriter.

Moonstruck is a good movie, but is that a mic boom on cam when Cher says "Ok, ok..take me". I also liked Overboard better...it fit Kurt and Goldie's personalities so well.

is that in the actual theatrical cut or only in this full screen clip they released to the tv show? perhaps in widescreen it's not there.

Siskel seemed to only ever want originality. Ebert was more about entertainment value.

I think Siskel's weakness was that gradually made him approach films too uptight , jaded , and quickly dismissive the more he reviewed , he had a harder and harder time stepping outside himself and personal tastes to observe what might work for the majority of other people as time went on , while Ebert retained that childlike unbiased clean slate year after year , even though Ebert's weakness was sometimes he was too soft and easily forgiving. Siskel favored focusing on the little Intimacies and subtleties of characters and plots In films , Ebert was usually just fine either way with big loud spectacles or nuanced artsy drama as long as he thought It was a good general crowd pleaser. Overall Ebert more naturally took every movie for what It was while Siskel was often selfishly too busy thinking of what It should or could be.

OVERBOARD seemed like modern day Capra-corn, but then you have this idea of a man being able to take advantage of a woman suffering from amnesia (either the post-traumatic kind or the retrograde category). So you see there is a cinematic trope in how the script writers portray amnesia on film.

@@mooseyman74 I rewatched it and it was better than I remembered. Hammy and overacted, yes but I believe it's intentional and part of the charm.
I think of it like a time capsule as it spends a lot of time explaining customs and rituals from place and a way of life that has passed on. Enjoy it for the way it looks and the people sound. There is much to see and hear that doesn't sound like anything you will hear or see produced today.

Gene must have been rejected by Goldie Hawn at some point in the past because he would relentlessly bash the hell out of her movies. I was disgusted with his petty and bitter review of Overboard. You could tell he was making it personal.

The more you watch these guys the more you find that that is the case in so many different scenarios. Don't forget that these guys were doxxing people before that was even a thing. And yes I'm serious they gave out the home address of the producers of Friday the 13th as well as the home address of Betsy Palmer because they didn't like that they made the movie. Literally no other reason than that. Here write these people at their home address and tell them how much you don't like their movie… That's truly professional
