From memory there is often a spec for distance from needle to back face of shell - in the turntable manual on Pioneer PL series at least (49mm for example). That should also be set before the screws are nipped tight (i think)
I went through all the 2M's stylus. Be aware that with this red one you can later upgrade your stylus for the 2M blue wich is a nude eleptical stylus compare to the red wich is a tipped one. The nude one reduce the mass. There are two other stylus the 2M Bronze and Black. I heard that you can use a Bronze and Black but they are not conceived to be use with either a Red or Blue Cardridge. Red and Blue share the same one, Bronze and Black are sharing theirs respectably. I bought later a Bronze (Fine line) one and oh boy what an improvment, so I went to the next step the Black (Shibata) the later is mind blowing. The stereo separation is better because the later repreduce more accuratly the high frequencies where the stereo image is located. The 2M Black is maybe expensive but it worths its price.
Yep, you can use the Red style on the Blue cartridge, and vice versa. And you can use a Black stylus on the Bronze, and vice versa, but you can't use (for example) a Bronze style on the Red cartridge. I've heard all four, and the Black definitely sounded best, but not enough better (to my ears) to justify the huge jump in price.
I hope you do more videos and highlight more of your 'local' music. I'd buy only on download or maybe CD. No more room here in tiny apt for more discs or LPs. I did not have money in college for a system it had to wait (that was during the 1970s) ..listened on other's systems.
What is the over hang for your turntable? How did you adjust that? Did you use a protractor to adjust for stylus tracking error? Did you adjust your weight to about 1.8 gm?
@@AverageJoeVinyl Well I know how but that really is one of the most important things for someone who doesn't know what they are doing for the first time.
If your turntable doesn't have an autoreturn feature, you probably could. This turntable does, so if I tried to set the arm down on a CD, it would trigger the return back to home position.
I have a laserdisc collection and what your doing with that poor disc should be a ticketed offence!!! Jk lol. En serio amigo, is that okay on the needle? I usually test it with a different cart which leads to my 2nd question. Will anti skate be that much different with different carts? I know, dumb question. I actually bought a new needle for my cart so I use the old one to test the antiskate. Im not really an audiophile. Just happy they are making records again so I have about 60 represses. I do enjoy see everyones collection videos.
Thanks, Erik! Yes, using a laserdisc to check anti-skate is a perfectly valid method (or else using a single-sided record, though they can be hard to come by). It doesn't seem to harm the needle, but I don't leave it on there any longer than I have to. It usually only takes a few seconds to check the antiskate, and happily, it doesn't damage the laserdisc either. If you're using the same cartridge with the new needle, you can probably get away with checking the antiskate on the old stylus. But if you changed the cartridge, I'd recommend checking it on the new cartridge/stylus. Thanks for watching!

nice
You didn't use a protractor to allign the cartridge, or you left that part out?
Didn't show it. Enough people have asked that I probably should do a follow-up with both the protractor and the stylus scale. Thanks!

Using a laser disc to adjust anti-skate. Smart. I use a one sided record.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, ha! Unfortunately I don't have any one-sided vinyl at the moment.
Could a cd be used to check antiskate? Even though it has smaller radius I think it should work

Sorry a red is not that much of an upgrade. Blue or Bronze is an upgrade.
If you say so. The Red is much better than what I had before. I've got a Blue now.
