Da Vinci has one of the best viridians in my opinion. M Graham also makes a really really good Viridian- some would argue even better than Da Vinicis Virdian. I love Viridian. Anyway great video and thanks for sharing. Much love ❤️
i would have to agree. though i haven’t tried others but from looking online, davinci’s is the most potent one out there. thank you for your kind words. it means a lot 🥰
i dont think i have the premade half pan anymore but from my recollection, the tube dry in pan rewets easier but is not anymore pigmented than the half pan.
@@PaintinHiding Actually, I was referring to the pans themselves, not the paints 🤣. The pans are so cute and distinctive. I like that they have the notches on the sides and the Royal Talens Logo on the bottom; that makes them feel so special 😂.
@@awatercolourist aaaaahhhh!!! me too! i think they're the only branded half pans that i have so i definitely like them. i wish roman szmal has their logo on the bottom. they have so much space with their full pans too but they don't do anything to it. looks very generic.
yes, da vinci is much more intense in general, compared to rembrandt, though i still love rembrandt. btw, if you prewet viridian a day before you use (if you do not use it daily), and wet it so that a kind of pool of water stays in the pan, a huge water drop in the half pan, then viridian is much more usable.
I think of Viridian as the original PG 7, but granulating 🙂 Wow, that artist is great! I know skies get lighter towards the horizon, but I've never heard that they are greener. In fact I've heard that things look more purple when they are farther away, and closer things look yellower, which seems to be the opposite of what he says. I'm going to have to observe for myself, Regardless, I love his paintings and it's very a very cool idea to make an ultramarine/viridian sky; it could be a nice change of pace from cerulean.
ohh that's a nice way to think of it. i think phthalos did come after right? yeah, i didn't know of the artist until my local art shop organised a workshop. and yeeaaaah right? i thought it should get more purple too. i tried to find some of his works that depict it but can't find any. he showed it in the workshop and it make a lot of sense though.
@@PaintinHiding you know, I think artists can take a lot of liberties and make stuff look different/better than reality and... it's cool! Yeah, Viridian was around before phthalo green. That's why people put up with it's fussyness!
@@jennw6809 Here (Sweden), in the summertime, around sunset (which is laaate) you can very clearly see the sky looking like a pale turquoise before moving into the yellow and orange colours. It's stunning! ☺️ Would love to hear what you observe!
@@hannahthufvesson Ahh! I wondered if it's different in different parts of the world! And of course perhaps with different air quality conditions. (That is to say, where there is less air pollution it might look greener....)
@@jennw6809 That's such a cool thought! Could it also depend on how long time the sunset takes, for example? When I've travelled and been close to the equator I was surprised by how quickly it went. And I didn't even think about air pollution! Our air is pretty darn clean over here, if that helps to inform things ☺️
beautiful color! I must admit I don't use it that much because I am used to pthalo green and it's staining properties. I love viridian in mixes though ^_^
well since royal talens watercolour pans are extruded paint and not poured like daniel smith, i just wedged a knife into the side and it popped right out. some are easier than others and viridian happened to be one of the easier ones.
@@monsoon_magic2874 No, no, no, no 😂. Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I was trying to take out other paints, not Viridian. It was Vee who had Viridian in the video. Royal Talens uses the same pans for their Rembrandt and van Gogh line of paints. Imagine a van Gogh PG18… that would be the day 😂

Qor's viridian is definitely the strongest I've seen, even more than DaVinci's. Roman Szmal's is underwhelming, way too hard to rewet (which most of their paints are not)
ohh that’s so good to know~ qor also seems to have the most intense colours. awww nooo, i would’ve expected RS to be similar to davinci, that’s so sad! 🥺

Wow, the Da Vinci looked so good in comparison! Cool tip about the distant skies...
davinci seems to be really good with pigmented "lowtinting" colours. even their PV15 is the most intense i've seen.
I would like to see the difference of the Rembrandt's premade pan and the tube dry in a pan, if the tube is easier or has more pigmentation

I love the Royal Talens half pans 🥰
they can be a bit of a hit or miss but all in all, good 🥰

@@PaintinHiding I agree! Putting the logo on the pan elevates it from a piece of plastic to a collectable item.

i can definitely understand that. for me, i think i just rarely use greens in general so i dont really have a good grasp on either colour 😅🤣
How did you take the Viridian out of the pan? I had a lot of trouble taking out paints from pans. The paints were van Gogh.

Davinci's viridian seems more intense than Rembrandt's. I tried Davinci's ultramarine violet which is also more intense than other brands' version.
