Babe Blake's one reel wonder, with composer at the piano!
Introduced by young Jack Benny! Here is "Babe" Blake singing the Annette Hanshaw hit, "Mean to Me" with the composer Fred Alhert at the piano! Did she make records and sing on the radio? If so I don't know. Maybe she was a flash in the pan. If she sounds like an imitator of Helen Kane, thats because she was! She's got the total baby vamp voice, but kindly left the boop a doops to Helen! Enjoy again!
Benny was a popular MC discovered by MGM scouts who saw him at the Los Angeles Orpheum Theater. He was signed to a one year contract to MC all the proposed musical pictures like the Hollywood Revue. Did you know that the 30s anthem "Happy Days Are Here Again" came from a Jack Benny movie? It sure did, written for his next picture, "Chasing Rainbows". Кино
This is great. Thank you so much!
It's nice to see jack Benny young........welll
Jack was 35 years old at that time.
Very interesting and enjoyable but Annette retains her place in my favourites.
Great clip.
Thanks for sharing.
This is so ADORABLE, It makes You sort of Blue thinking where We are today! I LOVE This!
Love it!
Quite a gem! Was he actually 39 in this video! lol
Of course it’s a skit . Yes he becomes uninterested in her when he learns that she is being chaperoned by her mom. Then he discards her , so, he’s being mean to her , as is the title of the song she’s just sung .
As the title says she is rival to Helen Kane. Annette Hanshaw was of a different caliber entirely.
Does anyone know the name of the intro music
I have to ask, what's the intro music you use ? I absolutely love the tune!
It would of been a scream if when he pushed her she fell down and her mother hits him over the head with her pocketbook,
Always "would have"; never "would of."
There was a "Me Tooooo" movement comment on here earlier! THIS CRAP WILL BACKFIRE ON YOU! This Video should be ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED! Jack Benny did one of the most Romantic things a Husband could ever do for His Lovely Wife! After his death around a Year later, His Grieving Wife had a knock at Her door, It was a Florist with a Big Bouquet of Flowers for Her from Jack! She thought it was a Cruel joke at first, But the Florist told Her that Jack Wanted a Bouquet sent to Her every Year for their Wedding Anniversary, He paid for 30 years to the Florist in at advance! Now for the Video! It is Clever, Cute and Very Cool! Our society is truly falling fast when this stupid LIBERAL BS Is Taunting a Adorable Video like this! Calling it "OFFENSIVE" I truly Wish I lived in the 1920`s, Instead of a overbearing AWFUL Era as this! We are seeing the collapse of our Nation! Thank GOD For 2reeler, And the AWESOME and Cute video`s on here for us to enjoy!
He was holding on to her and she looked uncomfortable, then he pushed her away when he found out she was there with her mother and not alone... that should be obviously wrong. The one saving grace is that I'm not sure if it may be acting. Other than that, her performance was great.
@@tlex96 It was supposed to be a comedy bit.
@@tlex96 -- It probably was. Benny had married Sadie Marks, later known as Mary Livingstone, in 1927.
@@tlex96 you are way out of line! It was acting. His wife was there with him when he was filming that.
@@missyhumwood6669 Out of line? Really? It was a simple observation and two other people already explained it.
What a nasty guy!
They were doing a bit. The joke is that after he finds out she's there with her mother he's no longer interested.
