I do not Own the Rights to this Music, I am Simply Reacting to this video
One of those songs where the upbeat music belies the deep lyrics.
Just like Pumped up Kicks by Foster the People...
Like Twenty One pilots
It's such a happy, upbeat song,
Then you read the lyrics.......
"Ooh"
Underrated classic. More people need to know about this. Deep meaning.
This song is far from underrated! Most people on the streets know it because when I bump it in public people will jam along.
Underrated this song is massively popular
"I'm packed and I'm holdin'!"
"I bumped again and then I bumped again."
The most nostalgic song for Millennials. Period.
That or Drops of Jupiter.
@@Neyonius there’s no way you just mentioned that song! Are you messing with me? I have such bittersweet nostalgia tied to Drops of Jupiter. These two songs are separated by about five years and between decades. Different times of my life and way different experiences, but equally important.
@@mindspinn311 I had literally just listened to it right before watching this video. Serendipitous timing I guess.
When you don’t realize the second verse is about doing crystal meth even though he says it 😵💫
AND it got used all over the place in movies and tv in the late 90s, 2000s
The entire album really
They censored that back in the day lol
@@cius2112 no they didn't
crystal meth was different before a bunch of crazy junkies were on tv (see crystal method)
I believe music is a great form of therapy and free thinking for a lot of people and this band has helped me get through some shit
Agree with the first sentence before the "and" in between. And with the second one, hope everything is ok, bro. Regards!
The 'Doo Doos' give you the good feels through the crippling interpersonal depression. That's why Disney put this as the theme song for the 'Tigger Movie' lol
Iconic and when you find out what it's really about..... you only feel it that much harder
Nice! One of my favorite bands. Should listen to their songs called "Crystal Baller", "Narcolepsy", and "Never Let You Go". Love your vids Nate. Enjoy the tunes.
P.S. This song is about crystal meth addiction lol
What about Motorcycle Drive By?
Dog the whole self titled album is incredible (god of wine is totally underrated tho)
@@lar4537I love the entire album! They don't make albums like they used to. This is one of the few albums where I don't skip a single track 🔥🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼
Love this song, it brings me back to 1997
Yup those were much simpler times
Fell in love with this song and the whole album in high school! So good! Loved watching you bop around and enjoy this one :D Classic.
One of my favorite songs of the 90’s
"Jumper" is a good one too, also by Third Eye Blind
You should also try Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
Face down is a great shout!
Great recommendations 👌
@@chrispo301978 Yup!
@@ebxneezrgoode Thanks
Lmaooo, you had me dying from 2:50 to 2:57. You are awesome, glad I found your channel.
My goodness you make me smile :D
LOVE your reactions!
When I was 15 I listened this on cassette tape every day. The 90s we're awesome
all the hot girls listened to this lol
Cheers mate. Great reaction.
I haven’t seen a reaction where people actually listen to the lyrics of this song
"I'm packed and I'm holding
I'm smiling, she's living, she's golden
She lives for me, says she lives for me
Ovation, her own motivation
She comes round and she goes down on me
And I make you smile, like a drug for you
Do ever what you wanna do, coming over you
Keep on smiling, what we go through
One stop to the rhythm that divides you
And I speak to you like the chorus to the verse
Chop another line like a coda with a curse
Come on like a freak show takes the stage
We give them the games we play, she said
I want something else to get me through this
Semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby
I want something else, I'm not listening when you say good-bye
The sky was gold, it was rose
I was taking sips of it through my nose
And I wish I could get back there, someplace back there
Smiling in the pictures you would take
Doing crystal meth, will lift you up until you break
It won't stop, I won't come down
I keep stock with a tick-tock rhythm, a bump for the drop
And then I bumped up, I took the hit that I was given
Then I bumped again, then I bumped again
I said
How do I get back there to the place where I fell asleep inside you
How do I get myself back to the place where you said
I want something else to get me through this
Semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby
I want something else, I'm not listening when you say good-bye
I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling, an earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And that four right chords can make me cry
When I'm with you I feel like I could die
And that would be alright, alright
And when the plane came in, she said she was crashing
The velvet it rips in the city, we tripped on the urge to feel alive
Now I'm struggling to survive
Those days you were wearing that velvet dress
You're the priestess, I must confess
Those little red panties they pass the test
Slides up around the belly, face down on the mattress
And you hold me, and we are broken
Still it's all that I wanna do, just a little now
Feel myself, heading off the ground
I'm scared, I'm not coming down
No, no
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws now locked down in a smile
But nothing is alright, alright
And I want something else to get me through this life
Baby, I want something else
Not listening when you say
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
The sky was gold, it was rose
I was taking sips of it through my nose
And I wish I could get back there
Someplace back there, in the place we used to start
I want something else ..."
Their whole second album called blue is a must listen and then you can't forget out of the vein and you can't forget freaking Ursa Major the all kinds of
great song and a great album
It's upbeat, but sure af isn't wholesome haha
Straight from what I found on Wikipedia:
"Semi-Charmed Life" was written solely by frontman Stephan Jenkins. Jenkins intended to write a song that acted as a San Francisco response to Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side", with the "doo, doo, doot" chants present throughout the song being directly inspired by Reed's song. In regards to the style of the song, Jenkins explained that it is meant to reflect changes that were occurring in the San Francisco music scene, particularly a growing interest in hip-hop. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jenkins said that the concept of the song was developed through his observations of friends using crystal meth at a Primus concert. The juxtaposition of the music and lyrical content was intentional, as Jenkins intended to illustrate the "bright, shiny feeling" one gets when using crystal meth. However, Jenkins maintains that the meaning of the song more broadly relates to changing periods in one's life. He further explained the meaning of the song:
"It’s about living in the Lower Haight [in San Francisco] and all the machinations that were going on at a time where my friend group was finally out of the [educational] institutions that we’d been in our whole lives - because we’d all been in school since kindergarten and everybody now was in their early 20s and out of college. And then probably underneath that, also the weight of coming to terms with the kind of agony that your life is always about to change and never be reliable." - Stephen Jenkins.
Jenkins was initially against the decision to release "Semi-Charmed Life" as the lead single from Third Eye Blind, as he did not believe that it was representative of the work as a whole. Guitarist Kevin Cadogan was concerned with the explicit lyrical content of the song, as he had fears that radio stations would refuse to play the song. Elektra Records suggested that the band release "Semi-Charmed Life" as their debut single as opposed to "Losing a Whole Year", then prompting the release of several radio edits of the song. Upon the song's success, Jenkins explained that he felt most listeners misinterpreted the song to simply be a "happy summertime jam".
1st listen: This song rocks, gives me the warm fuzzies.
5th listen: Wait something's off about this.
40th listen: Whoooaa, wait, what?
80th listen: Oh my god I get it all now!
6,000th Listen: This song rocks, gives me the warm fuzzies.
Another great reaction to a nostalgic song! Thanks!
Dance Gavin Dance did a cover of this song. So good
I love them, so I need to find that
The most upbeat song about meth ever, haha
Happy, wholesome...... 😂😂😂
has been my fave for a hot minute! it's a happy poppy song about doing meth and sex. heh
Wholesome? A “wholesome” song about doing crystal meth.🤣
This came out right at the end of my freshman year in high school and, honestly, it took me many years as well to figure out what it was really about. But it’s still a classic.
Yeah. This song is *not* wholesome. It *sounds* happy and upbeat, but the lyrics aren't.
The most happy depressing song maybe of all time.
aye is that Mandella house in Pekham (Only fools and horses)?
Nathan love, listen to the lyrics. It’s about a guy trying to try the best druüg to get him by in life lmao. That’s why it threw you off a bit😅
Listen to Brim Full of Asha
man casually jamming out to the crystal meth song
I made a fan-made movie idea based around this song.

Douglas Lynn is a stoic high school freshman from Cincinnati. While he has it easy in school, his life outside school is the complete opposite. His mother, Kimberly, died from a drug overdose; his older sister, Jemma, lives in a college dormitory; his dad, Trevor, is a Marine working overseas; a majority of his schoolmates at Crawford Academy are always showing negativity due to the rise of drug uses in Cincinnati; and he lives in a tent on campus, as their original home was destroyed in a fire when he was 3. Despite this, he has made a few friends and good grades. Among those friends is Amanda Larson, a cheerful girl who has a crush on Douglas; Jill Barclay, a rather serious girl, and Amanda’s best friend; and Collin Gray, Douglas’ best friend. Together, the four create a “music enthusiast club” for their school.
However, one day, the dilapidated high school is on the brink of closure due to the lack of funding to fix it. Desperate to avoid living in the streets, the music club tries to come up with ways to keep the school open, but to no avail. As he tries to come up with another idea, Douglas learns about how Jemma is part of her college’s popular rock band, and decides to start a band with the club, going from a music enthusiast club to a fully-fledged band.
The band, now named The Lost Clovers due to each of them facing major setbacks in their lives, perform their first concert, and they immediately gain popularity throughout the school, motivating them to perform more. However, some of the students are still feeling negative, and the band has yet to gain the school district’s attention. Initially, Douglas thinks the idea has failed, but at the end of another school day, he comes across Jill’s cheerful younger sister, Joan, who is also a fan of The Lost Clovers. While spending some time with the club one night, Douglas learns from Jill that Joan’s cheerfulness has made her unable to notice and understand dark situations, such as the school’s closure problem and Cincinnati’s drug problem. However, Douglas uses Joan’s cheerfulness to motivate the band into continuing their quest gain the district’s attention.
Months later, The Lost Clovers manage to succeed in gaining the district’s attention, but the latter is still silent about keeping the school open. Just when the band was about try again, the district’s board arranges a meeting with them, where they come up with a condition: If they could gain a positive reaction from the crowd at the school’s Open House, the school will stay open and will be fixed immediately thereafter. However, the band is unsure about which song they should sing, until one student suggests doing a song cover. While figuring one out during a visit to Jill’s house, Douglas overhears Joan watching the movie trailer for The Tigger Movie, which contains Third Eye Blind’s ‘Semi-Charmed Life’. Douglas, knowing about the song’s true meaning about the dark tale of a relationship’s descent into crystal meth addiction, and remembering how his mother passed away, tries to tell Joan about the song, but decides not to, remembering her trouble of understanding dark situations.
While going for a walk, Douglas, still thinking about which song to cover, is about to lose hope for the school. Suddenly, he comes across a man, immediately recognizing him as Stephen Jenkins, the lead singer of Third Eye Blind. At a diner, Douglas explains the situation at his school, and about Joan listening to ‘Semi-Charmed Life’ despite the song’s meaning. However, Stephen explains that the song is not actually about drug encouragement, but the changing periods in one's life. Stephen encourages Douglas to cover the song to show people that they can change their ways for the better. At the night of the Open House concert, The Lost Clovers, having been encouraged by a visiting Stephen, decide to cover ‘Semi-Charmed Life’, gaining a a wave of positivity from the crowd. However, Douglas is worried that the district will not see it that way.
To everyone’s surprise, the district decides to keep Crawford Academy open and to begin fixing the school’s infrastructure, much to everyone’s elation. Additionally, the students become less negative, having been inspired by the cover. A relieved yet confused Douglas wonders why the school is still open, until he encounters Stephen, who reveals that he immediately confronted the district board after the concert about what he told him and about the song’s meaning, with the board seeing that The Lost Clovers have diminished the negativity at Crawford Academy. As the school year comes to a close, Douglas and The Lost Clovers are visited by Jemma and her college’s band, who congratulate them in saving his school. Jemma then explains that she managed to find a new home for the family, much to the band’s elation. Seeing that he has a new home, Douglas packs up his tent, but leaves the stuff he made in school as a special gallery for everyone to view. Joan appears and gives Douglas a clover brooch that they made prior to Open House. Just as the siblings leave, Douglas briefly sees a hallucination of their deceased mother waving at him in the passenger side mirror, only to get a kiss on the cheek from Amanda. The movie ends with Douglas waving back at the students, as he and Jemma head for their new home, ready for summer break, and Douglas’ upcoming sophomore year.

It’s lame, but it’s the best that I could come up with.
When you realize it’s an addiction song about drugs
Child hood restored 😌🤟🏻
