It's the song of the millennium!!!
Although this is one of my favorite 90s songs, I have to say Smells Like Teen Spirit is definitely the song of the 90s. Smells Like Teen Spirit is the anthem of the 90s. That song basically killed the careers of pretty-much every heavy metal band.
Having said that, semi-charmed life is a totally different type of vibe and is so catchy and upbeat to the point where I can listen to it over and over again. Smells Like Teen Spirit was just on a different level

This brings me back back to 6th/7th grade in 1997 when I was hanging out with high school kids partying and going to local concerts so I was one of the few of my class at the time that understood the song was about drugs

Something about how the lyrics are structured makes me always think of Eve 6 - inside Out, Barenaked Ladies - One Week, and this song. I hear any one of these three and automatically think of the others. They all came out around the same year/s too. REM - The end of the world is possibly the fastest sung lyrics I've ever heard though.

Same here, all three are on rotation on my old car CD player...Eve-6 self-titled is IMO one of those rare albums that you can listen to front to back without wanting to skip a track. I have both Third Eye Blind's eponymous debut album for this song, Graduate, Jumper, Losing a Whole Year, and How's it Gonna Be. Also their follow up album Blue for Never Let You Go, specifically. Fun Fact: Third Eye Blind went on tour with Eve 6 just before the release of Blue in '98...Barenaked Ladies has always held sentimental value to me for some reason. Stunt and Maroon are pretty solid albums, but something about One Week and Pinch Me just hit me right in the nostalgia feels...

Stephen Jenkins is one of the most prolific songwriter's to still exist. Very clever at his craft.
This is a fantastic album. You owe it to yourself to listen to all of it. It makes angst feel good.
You nailed it - the genius in this one is how the band (and Stephan in particular) weaves the happy-go-lucky riff and the dark, dark lyric into a song that just flat out rocks. Makes me smile, tap my toes and shudder at the depths of struggle of my fellow humans all at the same time. Damn few songs can do that - fantastic musical art.
Hey Anton, anything from their debut album is awesome 🤘🤘 I used to thrash it on weekends & after school,dunno what happened after this album,but it's not good (just my opinion!!) would love to see reactions to live,creed,Alice in chains, smashing pumpkins,everclear etc.
