The Geckos can see the red light by the way, they just perceive it slightly differently than we do being tetrachromatic, it almost certainly bothers them to some degree.
AfroHerpkeeper hey bro why dont you take a razor to them water stains clean them right up also love your animals huge fan so are my two turtles and crested and leaf geckos on of my turtles is a albino red ear slider and the other is a pastal yellow bellied slider and my crested gecko is some kind of morph not to sure
You were the first pet youtuber I ever subscribed to not that long ago! Which is crazy because I've been working with reptiles and invertebrates since I was ten years old. Just never explored the pet world on social media. You opened up a whole new world for me in terms of connection to other reptile enthusiasts. Keep on being awesome. Much love.
glad to see somebody representing the fro! had a massive one like that back in the early eighties. and also still have a large collection of reptiles all these years later haha
Hey man when I heard "lake Travis" I got out of my seat with happiness. I live in Austin TX and it's nice to see someone around my age love reptiles I'm 15 btw
Nice to see someone so dedicated to looking after these kinds of reptiles. Some people get them then later on find they dont have the right size tank to keep them in and end up wanting to re-home. Always do your research before buying it saves a lot of time and money in the long run and the animals dont have to be stressed out being moved somewhere else.
Quite a respectable collection you have amassed. Very impressive. You're very lucky to have such a fine collection. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
I love the skinks setup! I heard you say millipedes with the bearded dragon, I don't think that's a good idea but I saw someone else already commented on that matter
Yeah, I was just listing off any decomposers I could think of. Don't actually have millipedes in with any lizards, but I have seen a few in the garter's viv.
Skink looks just like my old blue toung swing "Blue", who passed away 2 years ago. he lived for about 7 years with us and he was my first lizard and I'm about to get a snake so him and my other reptiles kind of helped me get more used to reptiles from mammals.
you've got an amazing collection there, great variety of species and credit to you for what looks like some amazing care those animals are getting. keep it up!
No need to mention something being controversial. If your animals are happy and healthy you are doing it right!!!! Some people have success with sterile enclosures others with natural enclosures.
Don't own any leopard geckos, and I've already gotten multiple complaints regarding the red light. I'm considering replacing it, but for the time being all animals near it are healthy and behaving naturally.
Dude to let you know they took you off my notification list. I was like I haven't heard from you in a while and had to type your name your one of my top 5
Lol when he said his African clawed frog is big at 5 inches I was like omg my american bullfrog is going to be twice that or more, and weigh one pound lol
If you are having problems getting the heat up for the snakes try a higher watt heat bulb or try using 2 heat bulbs. When I use to have a green iguana I had issues keeping him warm so i got him a higher watt heat bulb and it worked.
When you do get an aquatic turtle, change out the substrate for sand or large river rocks (Only sand for mud, musks, and softshells) Those little pebbles are widely known for causing impaction.
Just an FYI ponytail palms get fairly large in trunk girth and will easily take up all the room in your containers. Not trying to be a party pooper but just warning:)
Dude the fence snake! I had the same. I found a girl fence lizard that had a hurt leg. I kept her for the rest of her days. She was the best. I love this video
I have a western banded gecko, a bearded dragon, 3tiger salamanders, one leopard frog, a bull snake, common garter snake and a baby leopard tortoise, hoping to get a baby western diamondback rattlesnake within the next year or so.
Great to see someone who isn't keeping his desert reptiles in small rabbit-like cages. Whenever I see someone housing them in a terrarium with repti carpet and toilet paper, I just get angry! Sure, If you are a big time breeder, paper towels is a must, but if you have a terrarium, I don't see why you wouldn't tale advantage of that, and create a naturalistic setup -Great job :)
You should consider replacing it with a solid substrate, I understand the desire to encourage their natural behavior, but loose substrates are unsanitary and pose the risk of impaction. Besides, these are domesticated beardies. I have a dig box for mine with alfalfa pellets in it so if he ingests them on accident, no harm is done. Just replace em when they're wet. Even if your beardies are 100% healthy, it's not the most responsible or safe decision to put them through so many health risks. Also, you wanna be careful with live plants in beardie tanks; moderating humidity levels is tricky enough, and too high humidity can cause respiratory infections. You obviously care a lot about em, and I'm glad they're both in better homes with you now!
You do realise that reptile carpet and Lino and so on actually house more bacteria than loose substrate. Due to its nature loose substrate houses less bad bacteria and more beneficial bacteria.
I've literally /never/ heard that, and I'm genuinely curious to hear where you got that from? Besides, loose substrate still poses the risk of ingestion. Even though bearded dragons are semi arboreal, loose substrates still cause more respiratory issues due to the material settling in the air and on all the objects in the tank. I am only trying to point out that there are safer options. I clean my slate tiles with cleaners designated for reptiles. There is no way to 100% clean a loose substrate that is never clean to begin with. I'm not saying if you have a beardie on sand it'll automatically be unhealthy, but you are putting it at a much higher risk for impaction and respiratory issues. Thanks!!
Put it under the hide, then go out and buy (or make) a second one! Leos should have at least two hides - one on the cool end and one on the warm end of the tank. This ensures that they can stay a comfortable temperature without feeling exposed. If you have room, you could even get a third hide, fill it with moss and keep it slightly damp. A humid hide like that will help your gecko shed. This care guide covers it pretty well: www.reptilesmagazine.com/Care-Sheets/Lizards/Leopard-Gecko/
Awesome collection mate! Just discovered your channel and subbed. Question though, I don't see a uv or heat light on your bluey? They need both of these things to thrive. I know some people say otherwise but it's simply not the case, I don't mean to sound in your face or anything but in Australia we are required to use the uv globes with blueys. I only mention because you seem like you know what you're doing and like you love your animals :) Anyway cheers and good luck with expanding your collection!
He usually does have heat and UV, but I've been shuffling light fixtures around as I work on improving setups. It was temporary, I promise! Just got a new heat lamp for him and I'm picking up a UV fixture in the next couple of days!

hey man beautiful setups first time I've ever seen such naturalistic tanks with so many real plants and substrate
No need to mention something being controversial. If your animals are happy and healthy you are doing it right!!!! Some people have success with sterile enclosures others with natural enclosures.

Stop using a red light for the leopard geckos
Don't own any leopard geckos, and I've already gotten multiple complaints regarding the red light. I'm considering replacing it, but for the time being all animals near it are healthy and behaving naturally.
Oh. Someone in the comments said you had leopard geckos, I'm pretty sure
+Patrick McSweeney but the geckos cant see it
They can still see it, just not the colour. It's been proven; my geckos try to eat red lasers
+Fiona Shepley so then they would see nothing? as they chase the movement, unless they watch the light waves move
That hair is on fleek 👌🏻
That hair tho, is there any lizard in there?
OMG YOUR HAIR IS GOALS I LOVE IT
Good on you for not feeding live rodents! Its an actual law here in the UK for the very reason you said ^^ Unneccicery cruelty

Yeah, I'm aware. Gravel came with the setup at the auction so I'll be switching it out as soon as it's in use!
New Subscriber. First video. I really enjoyed seeing your animals.

It's all so nice and organized
You are an amazing person since you don't feed live rodents! God bless you! And for helping animals!
What kind of substrate are you using for your bearded dragons?
75% organic potting soil, 25% sand
You should consider replacing it with a solid substrate, I understand the desire to encourage their natural behavior, but loose substrates are unsanitary and pose the risk of impaction. Besides, these are domesticated beardies. I have a dig box for mine with alfalfa pellets in it so if he ingests them on accident, no harm is done. Just replace em when they're wet. Wonderful video! love all your Babies!
Those bearded dragons are amazing we took care of four babies and they run so fast when there young
AYE! Marching band! What instrument? I just wanted to say this was very informational, thank you!
Bb Clarinet
I have a leopard gecko and wasn't sure if I should put the heating pad under the hide or under the open section of the tank
Put it under the hide, then go out and buy (or make) a second one! Leos should have at least two hides - one on the cool end and one on the warm end of the tank.
