Here to plug PetroDragonic Apocalypse by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as my #1 album this year. It’s a great prog metal album with a loose concept by a band that jumps around different genres but kills it just about every time. The song Dragon was my intro to the band and it melted my face off and I’ve been hooked ever since. They did thrash well a few years ago with Infest the Rats Nest but PDA is another level

For me my favourite is In The Wild by the interrupters. As a person who has been dealing with depression, emotional abuse and many more, this album is a gem for me the lyrics are sad but uplifting, dark but hopeful in parts “Anywhere Was Better.” “Raised by wolves.” Are a good example of what I mean. “In The Mirror.” Really hits for me whenever I’m down “My Heart.” Is a touching number “Jailbird.” “Kiss The Ground.” And “The Hard Way.” Just brings my spirits up Aimee’s voice carries the whole album through with her raspy passionate voice and the rest of the band are no slouches on their respective instruments ether and really there is nothing else to say but fantastic album.

I think a great comparison that stuck out with me on But Here We Are is Rush’s Vapor Trails.
Both albums are focused on the loss of Family, Grief and recovery while also using a rawer style of production. Which is likely accurate as Rush were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame by Taylor Hawkins himself.

My favorite album by far this year is "Luminaria" by Aviations. For anyone who enjoys prog metal/prog rock should find something they like from this album. Between the upbeat "Safehouse", to the heaviness of "Legend", to two back-to-back epics in "Coma" and "Blink" respectively, this album was everything I hoped for since hearing "Outliers" in 2020

Sleep Token absolutely deserve that spot. They grabbed the world by the the throat from the very start of the year and didn’t let go for a second. If anything their grip only got stronger. They delivered the most epic yet sincere and heartfelt album they could and knocked it outta the fucking park! Just about every song on that album is insanely infectious and extremely well written. They are pure unbridled talent and passion. People just want to act like they aren’t good because they’re sooo desperate to still be the edgy cool anti-trend nonconformist edge lords they always dreamed of being in middle school.
How about rather than looking at it as being a trend we recognize the fact that an extremely talented band is getting the recognition they so rightly deserve? Not to mention how great that is for the scene as a whole

I fully knew what your number 1 would be and floated through the whole list because a) your content is worth not skipping a second of and b) it was much more gratifying to hang on every number just in case I was wrong and it landed at 2 or 3. But just how similar our tastes and opinions are on such a broad range of music and how what began as a trickle is now a raging waterfall... I knew take me back to eden had to affect you in a similar way. Ascenionism is a masterpiece, but the same can be said about most of the album. and now that I have started working back and discovering tracks like Hypnosis, Atlantic, and probably my favorite Alkaline.... I really cannot wait to see the ceiling, these guys live asap, and what the future brings for Sleep Token.
Rounding out the top 5 would be
    2) Ne obliviscaris - Exul
    3) Periphery P5
    4) Polaris/ Invent animate tied for now because I been so stuck on TMBTE that they both deserve some more time to sit with and dig through
    5) Avenged Sevenfold - LIBAD... probably a divisive choice because usually an album gets people who fully love it or fully hate it initially and while this has its def fair share of that, I'm also seeing just as many people who kind of feel both simultaneously and cant figure out why.i always applaud A7X for their willingness to write what they want and make sometimes massive departures but this was another level even for them. it was meant to challenge, themselves with uncomfortable to them music stylings but especially to the fan and listener as almost a defiant stance on whether our expectations pigeon hole or trap so many bands into writing the same song different ways or get crucified for attempting something different, shake the formula up. its lose lose either way in most cases so why not write and release whatever the fuck you want, like a dark disney punk rock opera. the scope of it not just being music but a challenge to the world lands it in the top 5

Creeper really blew my mind this year - going full 80s goth was the right choice for them, and they made it their own sound rather than just cashing in on nostalgia for a decade many of their fans probably weren't even born in yet. Also that video really makes me want to watch "The Hunger" again...or maybe "Near Dark".
Also I wasn't huge on Sleep Token at first, but they've really grown on me. "Chokehold" was in my top 10 most played songs this year and I never even noticed.

What's crazy for me about TMBTE is that initially I actually didn't like it as much I thought it would. Them releasing like half the album as singles leading up to the album release really took the wind from my sails on my first listen, it didn't hit like it really could or should have. AND YET, even when actively thinking "Yea it was alright" I would keep gravitating to it and it'd be THE only music I'd actively listen to for like two months. It was only after I realized this was happening that it hit me how amazing the album was.

One More Time by Blink182 is my album of the year. It exactly what fans wanted. They wanted joke songs but also hardcore punk style songs. It’s a good mixture of both and I feel Tom’s vocals are well suited for this style. Travis sounds fresh. Marks bass sounds perfect for each and every track.

Good list! I actually fail to see how Sleep Token's genre mashing is controversial since, you know, Mr. Bungle has existed for nearly 40 years. Bands have been fusing different styles together for decades.
I don't think I realized Slowdive have another album out! I definitely will be checking this out ASAP. I've loved them since whenever I first heard Souvlaki years ago.
Drain is indeed fun and I love albums that come in kick ass and leave within a half hour.

Checking in towards the end of the year to say I would have NEVER checked out Creeper without you mentioning them. Just saw them live and they have officially ticked the box of my favorite band of 2023/24. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Definately gonna have to check out that Creeper album, i remember hearing a few songs a couple years ago but i forgot about them so thanks for the re-introduction!
Also, i’m shocked that no one is mentioning the LOVEBITES album “Judgement Day” that came out this year. I absolutely loved it especially “Lost In The Garden” and “Dissonance”. (Btw, i believe i only heard of LOVEBITES through one of your videos a while back😅)

Respect for the divisive number 1. Personally, Paramore takes the cake this year. Funny thing is I didn’t really think much beyond “it’s pretty good” when I first heard it, but the lyrics clicked with subsequent listens and it became the immovable number 1 of 2023 for me.

The only albums I really listened to on repeat this year were Heart Attack Man's Freak of Nature and Blink's new album. Freak of Nature just kept growing on me. At first, I only kept going back to the first 2 tracks and then I would relisten to the whole album while I was driving and suddenly every song was memorable and catchy and fun. I was really nervous about Blink's new album. I'm one of the people that really enjoyed Matt Skiba in the band and I wish I could have gotten at least one more album with him involved. Even just a collab with Alkaline Trio and Blink would have been awesome. But with more Alkaline Trio coming I can't argue with the quality both bands are giving me. One More Time... is not perfect and there are some songs I don't love but the overall energy the boys are giving off on every song is some of the best they've had since Enema of the State, in my opinion. Enema is my favorite of their albums but this new album is top quality and I so happy they made up finally. Even if they didn't have new music together. They should always be friends.

@@RockedNet It’s actually Metalcore, not Thrash. Though Metalcore does take influence from Thrash so that makes sense.

An album i really loved this year is fatalism by Polaris. I really feel like it was a break out album for them and a way for them to really separate themselves from the rest of the metalcore genre. They also really improved on their live sets.

Found a couple of new bands/artists (thanks to new music night :)) I know that they might have been around for years, but sometimes it is hearing them at the right time, or the right song that brings you in, that isn't always their debut, or even their biggest hit
Hot Milk, Oni, Within Temptation, Spiritbox.

One album I just discovered from this year, which I think is damn awesome, is Cold Epiphany by Voice of Ruin. Granted, it's nothing particularly cutting edge, as its mesh of groove metal and melodeath could've easily come out in 2006, but good god, it's a damn banger
