Why You Shouldn't Train At Home - GO TO THE GYM!

- Recently Coop from GarageGymReviews made a video about how home gyms are the future. Alan Thrall of Untamed Strength also weighed in on the situation. In this video I give you a few reasons why I wouldn't build a home gym even though it's been great for me.

why you shouldn't train at home
Hey all, please understand I'm team home gym for life. However this video was to play devil's advocate as Coop had stated he thought home gyms would put commercial gyms out of business.
Coop may be right, though again, not in and of themselves, but in addition to other economic realities as well...
No thanks.
No home gyms will not do that lol
I don’t get the community thing. Even Brandon in his basement has access to thousands of other people via the internet. In fact since early 2000 I think people could reach out to each other online. Are people nice online? Not always. Are people nice in person? Not always.
@@michaelsofine I think a lot of people enjoy the face to face commradarie.

@@justtestingonce all the idiots that panic bought at $3 a pound and never used it are trying to get their full money back here now that gyms are open 😂 I'm waiting for reality to set in for how badly they overpaid.

Baby Bear my gym is open at 25% but I’m not planning on going back. Built a super-shed and putting in my own stuff now. FYI every fitness company, facebook, and craigslist are still depleted. Ebay profiteers are charging double to triple. Today.
In my home gym I get to do awkward exercises like hip thrust and no ones watching
But doing it in front of an audience gets some people off!
Idk man it's nice to occasionally catch women staring while performing various butt exercises. Big mood boost. My cat watching just doesn't have the same effect.
I can relate here I did it in the local gym and everyone looked at me smirking.

I’ve had home gym equipment my whole life. I have worked out in a commercial gym for many years while my equipment was collecting dust. I got inspired to set my garage gym back up 3 years ago largely from following this channel. At first I was just going to use it occasionally, now it’s taken on a life of its own! I love it, it’s where my roots are from. I’ll never train in a globo gym again.
Part of it for me was necessity. No where close had the equipment I wanted and time is my most valuable asset these days. Love my home gym!
I slowly built up my garage gym over years. For me, training at home is best for time management and it's nice not having to deal with other people. It's a good feeling when my wife and kids come and check on me.
Don't have to convince me, I'm team home gym! I just think we're in the minority!
When I was younger I would have agreed with you %100. Now that I am in my late 50's I don't need as much weight and I really don't have 90 minutes to spare every day. Now I get 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes when I get home from work.
Makes sense!
This is America, why chose, do both...
Disclaimer: This was America before the Coronavirus hit and the government created their authority to shut down businesses that they deemed (without due process)
I prefer both, with a family and working 3 jobs only way to get consistent workouts in is a home gym. But then when I can and need training partners or help I go to a powerlifting gym specific to what I need.
Lol true!
My at home gym is just a barbell and plates. Deadlifts, press, cleans, floor press, rows and zercher squats.
All you really need IMO!
I used this pandemic as an impetus to start training again. I blew the dust off of my bench, brushed the rust off of my old school Dan Lurie 1" plates and splurged on a dumbbell rack. After finding out that all quality equipment is backordered indefinitely, I built a squat rack and safety system from 1" black pipe. My next build will be a lat pulldown machine out of pipe and cable. (Maybe I should start a RUclips channel called Pipe Dreams). I enjoy working alone from home and can get a full body workout in about an hour. I lift three days a week and run the alternating three days. I've had every kind of gym membership from private gyms to Jack LaLanne. Home is where it's at for me!
Nice man!
My home gym is detached from the house and I do workout at 4:00 a.m. on days that I work. It gives me 1 to 2 hours of solitude and listening to my choice of music while following the Juggernaut AI app workout.
awesome!
I have a garage gym and I have a gym membership paid through my insurance with access to all globo gyms for 25 bucks a month with that being said globo gyms aren't going anywhere I'm addicted to building my home gym but I am not willing to buy everything that I wish I had to have in my garage gym at home I have barbells, ez bar, a cage, kettlebells, dumbells, a free bench, a bench with a preacher curl attachment. What I wish I had ... Every single cable machine at globo gyms, leg press, turf with sleds and tires to flip. That's the reason I still keep my gym membership active. I love Coop and his reviews but I can't agree that home gyms are the future some people will be able to afford a home gym other's won't and the majority of people won't be able too. A large amount of people are living paycheck to paycheck to either pay their rent or pay their mortgage I'm sure that even opening a line if credit to buy home gym equipment would cost more monthly than just having a gym membership to a globo gym.
Def agree, for those who need more than just a bar and weights, it's a tough sell!
Just started building my home gym in the basement due to covid, probably best decision of 2020. I was getting tired of waiting for equipment and dealing with bad gym etiquette. Have my setup for about a month, don't seeing myself going back to global gym.
Team basement!
Not sure I understand the argument of the cost of building a home gym . It clearly costs less to build a home gym over the course of a minimum of 2 -3 years compared to how much you would pay for a decent gym membership in that time . Now after 5 -10 years the savings is substantial
Depends on what kind of gym you're building.
The community/ motivation is #1
Right on!
I like to have my very basic set up at home and be fortunate enough to have a bit more at work.
I have always used your advice and so far you have been an essential dude. Thanks again. Still waiting for you to get a GHR so I can blame you later.
You haven't steered me wrong yet. Thx.

Your points are spot on. Can’t wait to get back into the gym
Thanks for watching!
Great Points! its about the experience for a lot of people
Team anti social over here!
Excellent, measured and fair analysis Brandon👍 brought my first barbell based on your advice, although I havant trained in awhile thanks to you I have all the guidance to get it done!
Awesome, which one?!
@@BasementBrandon it was the rogue C-70 bar as I have a home gym setup with ajustable squat rack so needed a quality bar to use in limited space. That bar was perfect for purpose.
If gyms were the same as they were 20 years ago I would say go to the gym but recently most gyms have become hostile places for people who actually train !
I think a lot of that comes with these "boutique" gyms
@@BasementBrandon a lot of hardcore bodybuilding and powerlifting i gyms ncluding my old gym are converting and expanding into full service health clubs and they start enforcing a whole bunch of new rules which results in most of the serious lifters quitting !
Went back to my local gym after they lifted the ban... now I gotta ware a face mask 😷 when I train there! It sucks!
Now all those bros who wore elevation masks previously look like geniuses.
Love my home gym and I won't be going back. I couldn't stand people using gym equipment as props for them to lean on while carrying a conversation with someone else, everyone taking selfies, not putting weights back, leaving ridiculous sweat puddles on equipment, wait time for using limited equipment like benches and racks, mismatched dumbbells and worst of all, watching people use the squat rack to do curls, light weight too... SMH!
Globo gyms are tough, I've been to some fantastic private barbell clubs that have high member fees ($100/month) but are well worth it in some cases!
saving me a lot of money by making this video, thank you
Don't get me wrong, my home gym is the best (for me). But I don't think home gyms are the wave of the future for a majority of the people.
Brandon, first off you are by far one of my favs on YT since I started in about 2015. However, this is a very subjective topic to truly have a solid opinion on. This debate cannot be won or even weighed in one direction at all since all human beings are different people with different lifestyles.
Yes maybe, “some” people need the gym, like bodybuilders who need people to look at them. Or the creeper who wants to gawk at girls for over an hour. Some people need others for motivation. Possibly the best is the social butterfly who spends more time talking then actually lifting weights. However, for most powerlifters or strength athletes I truly believe home gyms, “if they have the means”, are by far the way of the now and future.
Most areas do not have powerlifting gyms and trying to PL at a commercial gyms is not fun at all. Add in the hours of driving and spending money on bullshit barbells and bench’s what is the point? Building my own powerlifting gym in my garage I can now have a 6 day split with more frequency and less time spent. Make more gains then ever in my life and be in my own space built for me.
All that said. I respect your comments and opinions as always but I think this subject is best left alone by all influencers because there will never be one clear winner. We should as people do what’s best for us. Or like old school Hodge Twins would say... do whatever the fu$k you wanna do!!
I agree, but thought it would fun to weigh in on it being someone who is true and true team home gym, yet I think the majority of people would be better off in a public gym.
Man Brandon over here lying to all of you to get all the equipment on the cheap...I like it😎
shhh
Got to be best thing I ever did, I mean why wouldn't you ?
Won't get an argument from me, I love my gym, but I don't think home gyms will put commercial gyms out of business like Coop claims.
built my garage gym so I could be more efficient when I started nursing school-and to get away from people who talk too much at the gym
When you're in a tiny gym and waiting on the people taking 10 minute story breaks between sets of 135 on the only bench (and not letting you work in), dropping a few grand to get a basic home setup becomes very appealing 😂
Same bro, I hate being around people so a home gym is perfect
My #1 and #2 reasons for outfitting my home gym!
hell YES!
Yes Yes Yes! Spent over 30 years going to a commercial gym so over it. I do my workouts at home which are usually 30 mins of actual work and say 35 to 40 mins tops. 3 exercises 10 mins of each ( reps every minute on the minute). How many commercial gyms have a range of steel clubs, maces, Bulgarian Bags , Heavy slam balls and kettle bells? This is some of the equipment I use.
I can understand the points that you’ve made in this video, but pulling out my visa, and squatting in 77 square feet of the back of a garage is the best decision that I’ve made in 2020
Add in my rack has safeties to save me on a missed squat is a lifesaver. Most globogyms don't have a good way to put a missed squat down. And since most people can't spot for crap means I have 2 people I know I can count on to save me. My 405 lb 1rm squat isn't anything special but it will fuck me up big time should I miss.
Good for you.
Well let's be honest, you make a lot of bad decisions.

...I’ve had a home gym for 60 years...meager at first naturally, but even when I had a gym membership, I still worked out at home some...OH, and I do like working out-in fact, l LOVE working out 6 days/ week...most likely I will die in my home gym, at this point in my life it seems the natural Order...PS : LOVE your utube channel...wish I had it all my life...
Wow! 60 years? I’ve been training from home for 19 and you’ve blown me away! That is amazing and also extremely cool!
Keep kicking ass!
M Plussant Brandon, you don’t need to create other accounts old man. We still love you )no homo)
Corona actually forced me to build my small minimalistic home gym in a relatively small space with squat stand, barbell and plates.I used to go to the gym as long as I can remember but I got so comfortable in my home gym now that I dont feel like going to regular gym anymore even when they open up lol.
Bro, i started my home gym last year. That allowed me to squat and bench 3 times a week. Which put 100 on my df, 70 on squat, 40 on bench.
Just because i was able to finally use squat rack since my gym only had 2 squat racks and someone was always using it.
Same here, I don’t think I’ll go back to a commercial gym. I don’t have to wait for equipment, it’s convenient and I don’t have to find someone to watch my kids!
Haven’t had a gym membership for a decade. Started with a pull-up bar. Then a kettlebell. Finally a squat rack and barbell. Best investment I’ve ever made.
Exactly my story, brother!
That's awesome to hear!
Love my home gym!! Should have done this a while ago. no waiting and don't have to talk to anyone. I might not be going back to a regular gym and I don't mind it.
As long as midget approves.

Home gym rocks. Purchased my awesome home gym setup 2 years ago for $5000. Most of my mates say damn you have the most important stuff a proper gym has. Both my wife and myself had gym memberships. Only 2 more years and it will have paid itself off. It only takes up a single car space and saves so much time.
Great job being lucky! Enjoy.
Def agree, I've spent a lot, but I wouldn't trade mine for any other gym!
My whole set up was built slowly over 3 years and then quickly by flipping my old used stuff (not buying new to flip) during a crazy pandemic... if the world never turned I’d still be lifting in my poor man’s iron paradise and loving every minute of it... the crowds at our community center gyms are the worst...
I did the same thing man! Ordering my dream rack with nice bench and all. Just have to wait who knows how long for everything to be in stock lol
Def was a good time to be a seller!
Built a home gym during this, obviously no waiting to use the bench/squat rack and I can now finally try equipment I've been wanting to try. After a long day of work it's better for me to just go home to workout but I do miss the social aspect slightly even though most of the time I kept to myself.
appreciate the feedback!
I miss working out with a partner, but I never really talked to anyone else. However, I am a sucker for a good spin class. Cheers!
I’ve been meaning to build a home gym for the past years and this situation we are now in was the catalyst that did it and it’s been great. Lifting on my own time, no waiting, no annoying circle jerks conversations hogging equipment, no bro/ego lifters. I tend to work out alone and really don’t see a need to go back to an actual gym. Just going to keep building on what I have going forward.
awesome to hear!
"Brandon from the top rope!" Good opinions, as always.
My argument for home gyms being the future of fitness is due, in large part, to the technology entering the space. I agree that a squat rack, bar, and plates with no direction or program isn't going to get most people very far. But, Tonal, Peloton, and the others are more than gimmicky workout equipment and I've seen first hand the impact they can have on non-trainees and people that don't enjoy working out.
Regardless, it will be interesting to watch things unfold.
Yeah I think we'd have to establish what constitutes a "gym." To me a pelaton isn't a gym, but to many it may be (combined with a yoga mat and a pair of 10lb dumbbells). I just think at the end of the day even though team home gym will be getting a ton of new members, the public gym army is just too large to be taken over.
@@BasementBrandon jsut bought a basic setup for 3k Euros from rogue and people are already swarming to book a training time at my home. People would love to have a home gym but it isn't just affordable to everyone. I spent most of my time gettign stronger with the big 4 compound exercises anyways , will i become a good bodybuilder with just a home setup? maybe not but all I can see are gains.
Hungary 2nd month of a full lock down just started. F* gyms at this point.
There are many free programs online or one could hire a personal trainer to create a program for you.
There's no place like home
I agree!
Why you should train at home: “your life”
Yes because there's a risk of getting into a car accident driving to the gym 🤣
I think right now going to a public gym doens't make as much sense, but long term once things go back to normal I don't see a reason not to.
The older I get the harder it gets to actually leave home and the basement gym!:)
I hear that!
Every time I go to the gym, I get slightly irritated. In addition to the usual B.S. (people curling in the squat rack, etc), my gym has taken to wiping down all the barbells, etc with Clorox wipes, resulting in horribly rusty equipment. I understand wiping down things like benches, we did this before the virus. I've talked to the employees but they say its policy. This could be mitigated by doing some corrosion control, however that isn't their job apparently. Definitely looking forward to when equipment goes on sale. Cheers!
When I weighed the pros and cons of returning to my gym after the lockdown or using my home gym, I decided that my home gym made better sense. I even thought about just going once or twice a week just for the machines and to see old friends but my gym pissed me off with their $99 registration fee. Great way to get customers back.
that is pretty lame.
long term home gym with quality equipment is the best path
I can now fart whenever I want!
Man best part of going to a public gym is crop dusting.
Those whey protein farts are killers.
@@mwirth187 thats trueeee
My old gym only had one power rack. I was doing compounds and was approaching failure so I needed to use it for the majority of my workouts and it was causing a lot of tension with other members who also wanted to use the rack, having to swap out between lifts, and waiting for people, plus it was 15 minutes of driving one way to get there. Built a smaller garage gym (just power rack, dead lift platform, barbell and weights) right before the lock down here and... It. Is. Magical. No waiting, no commute, no tension, I can work out when I want, super easy and no one angry about me video a lift for a form check. I will never go back. My life is richer and less stressful having my gym in my garage.
Very good points, I think it obviously also depends on the gyms near you.
Bro, WTF!?
I've just dropped 6k on a home gym after watching all your videos and taking your advice. Now you're telling me that I've made the wrong choice? Haha

I am team home gym through and through, however for a lot of people I think a public gym is preferable.
This is just content for content sake. Does have good pointers but I will never go back to the commercial gym.
Funny!
Descent points, however I had the means, had the space, and I built my gym so I could train when, how I want and to get away the “social” aspect. Even when I had less equipment and less space, I always enjoyed my home gym more . No socializing ,just working out, and big time savings.
Don't need to convince me, I agree!
I agree, no waiting for machines at home no annoying gym people, and with all the new rules at gyms I’m glad I just invested in home gym. With my job this will also be more convenient.
No need to feel self conscious in a home gym, just grind and get stronger in the shadows
I love being able to blast my music and drink a beer (just one).
Home gym or commercial gym depends on the lifter. I bought my basic home gym 6 weeks ago, and it was a great decision. The quality of my training has improved for being in a private space where I can focus 100%. My wife trains more regularly now and her lifts are also going up. Brandon, you make some good points, but some of those points are mainly for trainees who need extraneous factors to keep them motivated. Community, variety, separation from regular life are all fine, but not everyone needs those things to stay dedicated or motivated to lift. Commercial gyms are not "a thing of the past," but for some people home gyms are better.
Def agree, while I'm team home gym and those extraneous things aren't important to me, I think for a lot of people they are.
I love my basement gym! The equipment isn’t top of the line. Nothing matches since machines, dumbbells, plates, kettlebells, bands, bars were added over time. BUT... it’s completely functional and it’s my haven.
awesome!
i personally am someone who likes to train at night and as great as a gym is it’s a great feeling being able to just go from doing nothing to immediately just working out and just the fact that it’s in my house encourages me more
Right on!!
Spent $6k on a home gym, for me best investment ever.

Yeah I remember when I use to go to commercial gyms. I hated when the preworkout was kicking in and I was ready to work out but the equipment I needed was occupied. That’s why I love having my home gym. My motivation are the “gains”.

Great info, I think with covid-19 a lot of adamant gym goers are realizing that in order to have uninterrupted training they must build something at home. Some of those people might return when things get back to normal. Keep up the great work!
Will be interesting to see from those who bought stuff during this pandemic who keeps it and who sells it.

After completing my home gym in my apartment (one division dedicated), I can tell you that I´m training more, my wife is training more, and even my kids are enjoying. Yes, I spent a lot of money, however it is an investment in our health. In a gym, I had to choose an hour no so crowded and to pray that the racks, barbells, and plates were not being used by someone trying to do a deadlift with the back totally rounded in order to show off all the plates that he has used in the bar... yes, it is true that I could see some ladies in their nice training suites, and to talk with some PT friends. However, I´m there for training, for my health. In conclusion, in my opinion, a decent home gym (that you can build in small steps) and some PT given by someone knowledgeable (for example starting strength or barbell medicine) for the good execution of the main lifts, and you can be the best of yourself.
Awesome man!
I built my home gym a couple of years ago when we purchased our home. The one time cost would pay for itself in one year. I was going to a CrossFit box and could no longer justify the expense or driving commitment. My husband has a family membership at the local Y. I can use it when I want but I really love our garage gym. My husband is very happy that we have equipment during this time and has been using it. However we will keep the Y membership because when it reopens we can swim, take classes and have lots of cardio options.
Some good points! I should have brought up some Crossfit boxes charge like $150/month. Would have made my argument stronger lol
Brandon the type of guy who wants to get ahead of people who can't go to the gym, stay woke my dudes

I love my home gym, but was lucky enough to build it over the last 5 years before the current situation. My gym is 50/50 new vs. used and I've gotten some amazing deals on used gear. Probably spent about 20k, but could fetch about 30k in today's market. Also, I've converted my wife into a fan of the home gym and now we both train everyday. I originally started my gym cause my 2nd child was born and I didn't have time to go to my CrossFit box. People used to think I was strange for working out in my garage. Now they think I'm a genius.
Sounds like a pretty sweet set up.
I am from Germany. I have my garage gym for 5 years now and gradually upgraded all my stuff. I never missed one of all the gyms I ever trained in.
And now at Corona times, 10 people in a week from local gyms come to train in my garage.

@@bmstylee I am thinking of installing fans too. What kind do you recommend and to place them where? Thoughts on tower fans in the garage?
My boyfriend and I spent upwards 15,000 bucks on a crossfit membership for 6 years (260 a month for the 2 of us) during those 6 years we slowly added to our garage till we had al, we needed and we canceled our memberships last summer. This past year we have been able to add ALOT of equipment withal, the $ that we saved and the flexible time factor...priceless.
Nice!!
If he really believed that, he would have gone into distribution instead of opening a gym. Most people, including pros, will never spend what you guys have spent on garage gyms. No, they are not the wave of the future. They're just a modern interpretation on the home gym that has existed for decades. You cannot substitute the latest tech on a avg person's budget, constantly, over time. You will simply fall behind. But really, for an effective gym at home you need not spend even what you guys have doled out. I still will go to the gym and still have a great home gym. Best of both worlds.
I think it’s the pros that actually inflate what a home gym costs. Take a look at any athlete and a majority will have a decked out home gym.
I've invested 1500 over 2.5 years... used weights and wall mount racks and pulleys. 14 hour days make it hard to leave the fam in the few hours b4 bed. Never get bored and honestly love that my 2 boys are seeing me have the daily dedication to keep after it no matter what. And its plenty of enough gear to do any type of training you would want. Dont need 5 different machines to do biceps. Dedication will keep up with a new version of a curl station any day.
Keep in mind I have the luxury of space and am an introvert for the most part.
Reasons I prefer a home gym:
1) No waiting on equipment.
2) No mask requirement.
3) I can workout in my underwear (or nude).
4) I know for a fact when the last time the bench was wiped down
5) I can literally throw my weights on the ground if I want without risking losing my membership.
6) I control if anyone works out when I'm working out.
7) This is the biggest plus for me. I CONTROL THE THERMOSTAT!!!!!!
8) Getting to my home gym doesn't add an hour to my day that I can't afford.
Reasons I miss going to the gym:
1) Spotter without having to build a session around inviting a friend over (spotter arms on my half rack are great but they can't encourage you to push harder, which means I've got to spend time I wouldn't otherwise be spending doing a session loading heavier and using lower reps with an explosive movement/ longer rest period to go past the plateau I'm stuck at).
2) I don't have to maintain the equipment
makes sense to me.
I was kicked outta my gym cause I declined the 💉. I saved up my pennies and purchased my own home gym. I went high end with Rogue equipment and it was quite expensive. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get amped up for a home gym, but was I wrong. It was the best decision I ever made. I’ll never go back to a commercial gym again.
Glad you're enjoying it!
I like both to have home for days I cannot leave the house for a workout due to work and energy in gym with strong power lifters and more equipment.
Right on!
I prefer home gyms, i make the rules. I like the community point you made, however, it's not that much of a deal breaker for me. I'd rather workout alone or with one or 2 bros or my wife. That alone is enough for me.
Right on!
I live in a big city. Way too expensive to have an extra room and paying 150€ monthly extra for it, when i can go 24/7 to a huge gym with free shower.
Right on!
since 2015 home gym and I don't even thinking to go back commercial gym , and why, concentration and gains get better for me when im alone ,nothing else matter when I training
Right on!
I worked at a YMCA since I was 16 and always had the perk of using the gyms all over the Island (live in Hawaii) and even got to use facilities internationally when I traveled. I as I got older and got a full time job else where, I always made sure to keep at least part time status to keep my free membership. However with covid affecting everything I was finally let go, and since I never spent money on a gym membership ever, finally decided to pull the trigger and start a home gym. Even though I miss the gym atmosphere and working out with the homies, there's nothing like just going in your garage whenever you want and getting your workout done without having a bunch of other people using equipment you wanna use.
Awesome to hear!
Im hella jealous of people with home gyms! I would feel so more motivated to work out from home and not get in my car and drive to the gym
I don't think I could ever go back to a commercial gym full time.
Too many goobers at the local gym. My garage gets me focused and efficient with my workouts. Don't have time to fuck around.
Right on
Home gym and working from home for 3 years now. Nothing better than morning workout, shower and no commute before firing up the pc. (There was) Tons of good value in the second hand market and some vendors like StrongArmSports here in Canada. The value of convenience has been more than worth it.
Good points
Much better working out at the gym, than home. Better equipment and not having to deal with an @sshole brother that I live with that has a problem working out at home.
ah man sorry to hear!
Just got a power cage since lockdown. Best money I ever spent. No longer dealing with lines for equipment, no gym toilets, changing rooms and obnoxious people
That's awesome!
It can also be easier to skip work outs with a home gym. If you can force yourself to get to the gym you think. May aswell just do the workout now I'm here. It's much easier to get out of chilled out mode when you go to a gym.
Solid point
I think home gyms might get more popular with niche workouts, but buying racks is more for the hardcore audience.
Right on!
GO TO THE GYM.
SELL YOUR WEIGHTS THEYRE NOT WORTH WHAT YOU NEED TO KEEP THEM.
I call dibs
lol
I prefer the hybrid approach. I train 2-3 times a week at a commercial gym and 2 times a week at home. I only use equipment and machines at the commercial gym I don't have at home. This keeps variety in my workout schedule and helps me motivated.
Makes sense!
I’m a loner that loves solitude and I decorated my garage so it feels completely different than my home. It’s easy for me to get in the mood when I go in my garage. For me, it’s not the price, but having control, being comfortable, and saving time. I don’t mind having less equipment because it promotes creativity. In fact some of the best workouts were when I first started working out at home and only had dumbells and a bench.
Makes sense!
My home gym consists of barbell , dumbells, curl bar , pushup stand, abs wheel. I do have 80 kgs of weight plates.
And i absolutely love to train alone.. because workout is a mind set
Right on!
$40/ month plus $100 annual fee. Thats $580/yr. in less than 3 years home gym pays off globo gym. Thats also a cheaper gym, and if you go to a powerlifting/crossfit gym, you’re looking at $50-$100/month. Also that doesn’t take into consideration gas....just sayin....
Good gym equipment will outlive your grandkids.
I agree but if you're the type who likes certain equipment or facilities, the cost of a home gym goes up significantly.
Brandon Campbell Diamond i can agree with that. I think it all depends on goals. I believe that the normal gym goer doesn’t need a home gym, but for those who have a good understanding of training, i believe they can get an incredible bang for their buck. A nice rep rack/weights/barbell/landmine/pulley/rings would run about $1500-$2000. Throw in a set of adjustable DBs, and you’re golden.
The community aspect is a big asset, however. But playing devil’s advocate, it can make people rely on it to complete their lifts or even have the motivation to go to the gym.
I have made really good progress mentally training at home. But I can agree there are pros and cons to both sides. At the end of the day, do what makes you train!
The mayor in my county said going to the gym by appointment will be the norm going forward. In addition to making appointments, capacity is going to be capped at 25%. These reasons alone are why I'm investing in a home gym.
Makes sense!
I like not going anywhere and I LOVE my Garage Gym. Never going back to a commercial gym. Will buy even more equipment when it becomes available.
Nice!!
I earn a really good wage and I have a shed out the back that's 6m x 9m and the ceiling is like 4m or 5m high. I'm very fortunate and blessed to be able to build a home gym at home (706m2 block of land). I went the home gym route because my work is very taxing on the body and I work 10-12hrs a day and I found it very difficult to stay motivated and go to the gym after work / before work due to being too fatigued from work. So far I've got the Force USA G12 set up, 140kg worth of bumper plates, a high quality adjustable bench and a free weight Olympic bar. Few things I'd like extra are some power block adjustable dumbells but we will see, everything seems to be on back order. Awesome video. I do love the gym community, and I love the variety of equipment available at commercial gyms. The turning point for me was convenience because work / life balance was basically all over the shop and time for going to the gym, getting ready, driving there felt more of a chore after a 12 hour shift on the work site. I may stay at the gym as a member for a few months to get more of an idea of what I might chase after for my own set up. Eventually I'll probably quit my membership.
Right on, i appreciate the detailed insight!
@@BasementBrandon and I appreciate the video my bro 🙏🙏
I have a power rack at home and a gym membership.....variety is always good.
Best of both worlds.
Disagree, I'm enjoying my home gym way more than belonging to various gyms over the past decades.
No roided up aggro meatheads, no waiting for benches or machines, no dirty and tired equipment.
Sure, I miss the women in yoga pants, but there's always the internet.
I do think there's a big home gym movement going on, but at the end of the day I think the majority will still prefer to go to the gym.
@@BasementBrandon Access to high quality home gym equipment at affordable prices is a relatively recent phenomenon. The gap between commercial grade and home gym grade has disappeared, and in a lot of cases (my own included) I'm using way nicer equipment at home than I've ever used at a gym. Rogue deserves a lot of the credit for that.
I agree though there will aways be a place for commercial gyms, for a lot of reasons. Home gyms require space, upfront investment, knowledge to build and used effectively, some DIY skill typically, etc...
There's also the reality that many people belong to gyms without any serious goals or direction. They go for social interaction more than training, and that's fine.
Some people absolutely love going to restaurants, and I prefer a healthy home cooked meal. To each his/her own.
I’m a dude that has been lifting for 10+ years, hates people and wants to squat in daisy dukes so tight it makes my girlfriend and neighbors question my sexuality.
You better believe a home gym is worth it brother.
I mean if you got it might as well flaunt it.

😉
Won't trade my garage gym for anything. The downside to a 1 car garage is lack of room for bigger items. I would love room for a fan bike, GHD, etc but I need to have room for a functional garage. Thankfully my truck won't fit in it.
Yeah have to be selective for sure!
“Go to the gym”. Sounds like something a gym owner would say. Wink wink.
Literally almost no point to go to a gym if you can get the equipment at home. Less waiting at home than a gym (literally no waiting). Gyms are dirty (leading to increased risk of getting sick). And, in the long run, it costs less because you won’t be paying that monthly gym fee.
I think part of the issue is my title (my fault) but coops point was that home gyms were going to put commercial gyms out of business, which I don't agree. I think we'll get a lot more team home gym people, but will always lose to the public gym army.
Most gyms are very clean. All the gyms I've been to.
It depends on the person and how self motivated you are. Some people need to have the socialization and the feeling of competition. I am a personal trainer and I would say it also depends on your goals. If you just want to lose weight a treadmill isn’t going to put you out much. But if you’re into powerlifting like I am, you require a lot of different equipment to achieve your goal. I have adjustable DB in my home gym and it does take a lot more time switching stuff around, but if the gyms are closed its better than nothing. This shutdown showed me ways to get around lack of equipment, and a wish list for stuff to get or make. Gyms could shut down again in the fall if we have a “second wave” as they expect, so think ahead and get ready now.😁
Some good points.
