I bought a garden shed and decided to build a budget home gym inside. You can too. The most important criteria in nearly every potential home gym build is the cost. "How can I build a home gym on a budget?! It seems impossible."
Although it's hard to do so on $500, it can be done.
The other issue is the difficulty in finding a space to build a gym. Some people live in small homes with no basements and the inability to put a gym in their garage.
So, I want to show you how I built a budget home gym in a garden shed.

Coop, you and I have much different ideas of what “budget” means man😂
For real tho and im here filling bottles with sand and water
Yo man I got all my shit off amazon and people talk shit about Amazon weights but I'm telling you it works
@@devincuppy funny they talk shit about weight I assure you the gravity and weight behind it is the same lol you keep at it 💪
Just get some kettle bells and some heavy clubs .. less that 300 bucks .. and your gonna be killing it. .. ad to that .. Mark Wildman videos... Done
@@devincuppy what'd u get?
“Budget” -> $300 battle rope lmao
That’s a LOT for a battle rope. Even my Sorinex 50-foot battle ropes did not cost that much and are excellent quality.
Was about to say the same thing.
You can get really thick heavy rope for around £15-20 per meter!
Even $300 barbells is certainly not "budget". I've trained at commercial gyms where the barbells weren't that good.
You can get a decent bar for half of that that will do the job just fine unless you mean to do olympic lifting (ie drop it) or you can deadlift 700lbs. And the real smart option on a budget is to get it second hand for even less.
$750 for a fancy stationary bike 😂
@@AD-ui6sk $750 will get you a great mountain bike or an absolutely amazing road/hybrid bike.
For a stationary bike you really don't need to spend anywhere near that amount. (Even without going second hand)
Personally, I'd have rather put some of the extra money into a proper adjustable bench and skipped like, half of the gear he's showing here.
Not that I'm judging, it's just a case of different strokes for different folks.
This is definitely on my "to do" list now. For the flooring, I recommend going to Tractor Supply and getting horse stall mats. They're heavier to lug around but can't be beat for gym flooring. I have them in my garage setup. Great content 👌
They went up to $50
how many do you recommend getting?
Do they smell?
800$ dumbbells are not “budget” 😂 the only budget item on here is the kettle grip..
Lol shit, only thing I found I can afford
Everything is on a budget, he never said how big the budget is
800 vs 1500 is budget i would say.
This site is mostly a vanity thing for a guy to brag about how much gym stuff he buys...don't take it too seriously ;)
@@Ace_Hunter_lives most of that he gets for free
You’re going to get so shedded in that thing ...
I’ll see myself out.
This man is really one of the only ones out here with hundreds of thousands worth of gym equipment and still has the same dad body as 4 years ago lol

This is pretty solid! But I would recommend a few swaps for people searching for a good budget setup...
1) The standard spin lock dumbbells for about $100 for 100lb per dumbbell... not as fancy, but gives you more weight for far less cost. Swapping plates doesn't take THAT long and it saves you $500+ on that alone.
2) The other change would definitely be our PR-1100 Power Rack... relatively compact, safeties for safer lifting at home/alone, plastic lined j-cups, a better pull up bar, and is around $249 vs what was shown in this vid is $449. It is a lifelong rack of for those lifting 400lb+? No, but it does the job for 90%+ of people and has attachments for those looking to upgrade down the road to do cable curls, lat pull down, tricep rope work, low rows, landmine, etc.
3) Next would be our FB-3000 or FB-4000 over that amazon bench... for a bit more money, you get an 11 gauge bench with a 1,000lb weight rating. The amazon basic bench lists "maximum of 385 lbs". This actually adds about $50, but if you weigh 200lbs and benching over 175lbs... you're not concerned about a weight rating.
4) Finally, get a nice colored covered battle rope swap for $100 vs $300.
Big improvements, and an overall cost savings approx $850. Easily could save $1,000+ if you're working on a budget with a few other modifications.
I felt so bad ordering an adjustable bench from the "other guys" knowing the reviews REPs had. But no stock :'(. Please forgive me, REP.
@@ItsAze All good! Our battle ropes and benches I mentioned above are both in stock. Coop is right, the soft plyo box that he recommends is a big seller for us since it doesn't wobble/topple as bad as many others sold. We actually all lift at REP, so we wouldn't sell something that just topples over easily on a missed jump.
@@REPfitness any chance the plate tree or 9 barbell holder will ever be back in stock?
I know you're kinda pimping your own products here, but I gotta agree on all counts. Also, a Reverse Hyper should never be in a budget anything, especially one with limited space. It does one thing, and takes up a lot of space, even if it's the portable one like this.
@@fencingrocks3 Haha yes. I just think people should look at some alternatives that may be better for them, and save them money.
In his defense the U.S.A. has a defense "budget" as well.
Thats why he has US flag instead of a mirror
Adding some insulation and a vapor barrier would be a nice addition to help protect against rust and corrosion. That's gonna be a huge factor in the winter especially if you heat the room and cause condensation.
Would like to know more about the construction of the shed and what reinforcement if any, that you made for the floor.
I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

@@GarageGymReviews Your power is inhuman! What a world!
When I bought my last house, it came with a 9'x11' TuffShed. I put down another layer of 3/4" tongue and groove flakeboard, wired and insulated things. Then, set up my Rogue R-3 and covered the floor with stall mats. Iron pipe on the wall for plate storage, Rogue barbell hangers, bands, and IronMaster dumbbells, one flat bench, and a Rogue AB-3. Things were a little tight, not much room to get the plates on the barbell, but I used that gym for like six years, and I miss it.
Great insight, I always thought of eventually having a gym in my house, but this is also a great alternative. Not sure why everyone is bitching about the budget, he offered a ton of alternatives to the more expensive items. Fill it with whatever equipment you have/want that fits your budget. Doesn't have to be all set up overnight either... think big picture people, you could accumulate this over a year or so and have a sick gym.
Just be careful with moisture/condensation build up and rust. I built a shed gym last winter and after a while i noticed my barbell rusting much faster than normal, and plates/dumbbell handles being slick wet with my breath/sweat condensing on the cold surfaces. Summer wasn't as bad but keeping up with the cleaning is something i didn't do :/
I thought about this. Not to mention risk of critters
My wife and I recently purchased a 16x40 and I have my home gym in it (16x25) and she has the rest for her crafting area. It works great for both of us.
Up until you want to deadlift and cause vibrations to happen and have loud ass music lol
@@carloszepeda8341 it does just fin with deadlifts.
What did that 16x40 run you? And what state if you don’t mind sharing
@@jonm610 the price actually may vary between states. We live in Louisiana and had it ordered before lumber prices went up. We went with a Gemco building and have zero complaints with it. With the thick stall mats down it’s perfect for a home gym. You can look at their website to get a quote for your state.
Couple ideas- If you wanted to do olympic lifting inside you could add at least one more layer of plywood on top of the floor going the opposite direction of the stuff that is already there. Also when it is placed make sure you have probably double the supports underneath than what is recommended. both of those will help distribute the load more. Better yet, don't go prefab, they cut a lot of corners typically and if you build it yourself it will be cheaper and better constructed (assuming you do it properly). Use 2x8s, 2x10s, or even 2x12s for the joists and consider doubling them for even more strength and again ¾" plywood doubled, or even better 1" tongue and groove doubled with opposing directions. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF PARTICLE BOARD FOR THE FLOOR.
Also- just buy a good plate carrier and real quality armor plates (not steel), that way you can train with it, load it out with what you would carry on it, and you could actually use it if need be. If you want more weight get the rogue cast plates and swap them out.
Sweet!! Something like this never crossed my mind because I live in the midwest and the gym wouldn't get used during the winter months. But is you're in a warm climate area of the country, this is sweet idea.
I have the 97.5 lbs version of the Baadass Dumbells. Here is my quick review. The steel is extremely high quality, better than anything I have used in the past. I can't imagine you ever damaging them. They are also accurate. I weighed each plate and every single plate was spot on except the 12.5 lbs plates. All 8 of the 12.5 lbs plates came in at 12.8 lbs. Not a problem for me. When assembled they do not rattle and they haven't loosened once so far. Although the plates are secure it's worth noting that they take a little bit longer to change than the Ironmasters. Again, not an issue since the Iron Masters haven't been in stock in ages. This probably makes them safer than the Ironmasters as well. The owner seemed friendly when I called to make an order and they arrived within 3 business days. Another important feature is that they are made in Canada, not China. However, although the materials used are high quality, I did notice there was some slop in the machining process because the plates are not all perfectly round. This might be a problem for those of you with OCD but I don't mind. Furthermore, the stickers and paint are low quality. The plates arrived pretty scuffed up and the stickers were barely legible because they were scratched up so bad. Thankfully the stickers peeled off easy (I hated them anyway). The paint also chips easily so don't bang them together too hard. Not a big deal because the stickers and paint can easily be fixed. As long as you don't mind a few cosmetic blemishes, I highly recommend this product. They will last a lifetime.
@@FLEXjs No problem! Reviews are helpful and there weren't any out there when I bought the set. Glad it helped!
I wish you spoke more about the flooring of the shed and how supportive the foundation/joists are. I have had to move my gym indoors and this means relying on the stability of the joisted floors
It’s laid on pieces of wood might as well just get a concrete pad laid and build a small structure on top of that
I don't think he put this thing up or modified it at all. He probably just payed for the installation
I would definitely lay 3/4 plywood over the Floor and then horse stall mats on top with an extra layer of stall mat wherever weights are hitting the floor.
It’s a garden shed. After filming this video he put his garden tools back in. Is why he didn’t finish the rubber flooring lol
You can build your own shed for pretty cheap if you are relatively handy. You can even just build part of it and pay a company to finish it if you have trouble with the top portion and the roof.

A couple peeps asked about floor reinforcement…adding an extra sheet of 1/2 or even better 3/4 OSB will reinforce the floor for occasional drops (just screw it down on top of the existing floor).
Nice project, looks like a dope space! So much to love here, great job!! Only minor things I’d recommend: a full safety rack if lifting alone for squats and bench. Also, fingers pointed out (vs forward) on those body weight bench dips is a little better for rotator cuffs 😇.

bro, they are 3 grand where i live :c
The most useless machine just get a bike
You must live in north Korea and that's what you make in a year or you've never looked at commercial bike prices and actually think 750 is overpriced
I move every few years for work, so I’ve had to build out a full gym that is also easily broken down and adaptable to myriad spaces. A half rack, set of irons, set of bumpers, adjustable dumbbells (I went with power blocks over a decade ago), an FID bench, and a solid set of bands with attachments to fill in for cable machines as needed is perfect. Garages, office rooms, spare bedrooms in the basement, and split between rooms around the house have all been configs due to either space or noise constraints (nobody wants to hear someone sharing a wall or floor/ceiling while you’re clopping on a treadmill at 0430) This shed pretty much hits it spot on. I’m looking to settle down in the next few years and one of my “musts” has been a gym space in the house, but I’ve never really given much thought to dropping it in a shed. Only thing missing is a magical space saving leg press.
you what? why do you have to move for work? like does ur boss move his company all the time?
Get a vertical leg press! The old school ones
unfortunately, this is a bit out of my budget
All you need are weights really. If you are desperate, get a sch 40 steel 2” thick pipe from home depot, some buckets, and sand (sand is $5 bag for 50lbs)
For this "affordable" price ill go with prx,
Whats the “budget”?
Ten grand?
“That’s something I’d look at for a budget gym”. $400 bar

One thing you should have talked about Coop is how you ran power out to it, as I saw lights. Also about the climate in there, I don't see any AC or heaters as it can get real hot or cold depending the season or location.
Man the fuk up its a gym not a "she shed". Candles, flashlights and extension cords! Either sweat in the summer or wear layers in the winter.

I miss having a home gym. I had a basement setup with a power rack with pullup bar - a bench - a barbell - a bunch of plates and a holder - a bit of grip strength stuff - and a bicycle on a trainer. So I had everything that I wanted in a very simple way. Bought all the weightlifting stuff on craigslist or facebook for like $200.
You dont have to buy these all at once. Just invest it little by little. Thanks for the vid
My budget setup:
Pull-up bar (negotiable)
Old, sturdy Backpack
Books (for weight)
A pair of 8 pound dumbbells I had lying around (negotiable)
Gloves (for my dainty, sweaty skin)
Grippers (those grip strength things, also negotiable)
With this, you can work everything
Great video. My one critique is that I think the Off Grid rack is not the best choice. While it works well from a price and form factor perspective, it doesn't have safeties available. Folks training in a small area like this are most likely going to be training alone which would make safeties a must.
Can you make a more affordable budget gym for someone in high school. Maybe like a 500-1000$ budget
Get creative and be prepared to make some stuff yourself. Duffel bags full of sand, concrete and pipes can go a long way. Spend the money on a good pull up/dip station and you are set man.

I wonder how the wood floor would hold up to deadlifts over time.
That's my thought too. Or bailing the bar during squats...I was considering the shed idea if my future house doesn't have a garage/basement option but my concern was the flooring (putting a shed on a concrete slab would be my preference but budget is an issue for me). I was also wondering about the overall structure of the shed option. Is it sturdy enough to support a rig/pull up bar?
@@jessim312 You can strengthen the floor for very little cash, but it will take some work. 1" flooring and add 2×6 joists underneath and you would be surprised at the weight it could handle. If you want serious integrity go with 4×4s. And add a few 6×6 footers. A couple hundred extra dollars and it would be able to survive pretty much anything you could throw at it.
Common sense should tell you that deadlifts should not be done in there.
That’s awesome. Just add some mirrors if you want it to feel bigger and BAM
Coop,
What did you do to level the shed? Also, did you do anything to reinforce the floor for deadlifts?
I'm wondering the same thing. However, I don't drop the bar, so I don't expect to beat on the floor, still, I imagine it would not be great putting 300lbs plus in a concentrated area.
That reverse hyper looked like it was going to flip over!!
Extremely cool! RUclips must be treating you pretty well if $4k is “budget”. For those who’s idea of budget is more in the $200 range, I recommend a good ceiling mounted pull-up bar, a kettlebell, and a jump rope.

I’ve actually built a budget shed gym for way less. But I built the shed the squat rack and a cable system. Hang a rope to climb you know all that good cheap stuff. I spent the most on weights, bumper plate set.
My OCD kicks in every time he puts a plate on backwards.
That's how they're designed to go on the bar. They go backwards on the bar, face out on the rack. You put them backwards so you can get all 8 of your fingers on the lip when placing and removing the plate.
I am planning to move to country side soon and most likely there won't be a gym near me. So making a realist game plan on how to build a gym and what I need. What I came up with was... Hell I bought my 300 pound weight set with the bar for like 300 dollars back in 2009 and still use it to this day. Ive never had a gym membership. Ive added dumbells to my home gym throughout the years. It doesnt need to be rogue brand.
Why? Because I want to show you that you can put a gym anywhere!
Internal dialogue:
Dang this shed is expensive, how can I write it off as a business expense?
In Canada, Canadian Tire has good quality resistance bands for a very good price. don’t pay extra for a name stamped on rubber.

if you squat alone, a weight belt, or stabilizer belt from gyms is helpful, it keeps better posture
“Budget shed gym”
You don’t think so? I do. A vast chunk of his gym price was just a cardio piece and a reverse hyper. Both of which are “nice” but optional. You can get cardio from a job on the street. He included storage, but you can just put everything stacked on the floor. For the quality and organization, this is pretty good I believe.
Well yeah you're not getting all this for 20 bucks
I've been wanting to do this for a couple years now. Such a good idea.
“Budget” but has rogue bumpers lol
Power rack, bar/plates, bench, rubber floor. That’s all you actually need. You can get an EZ bar, and Olympic dumbbell handles for variety.
2”x2” rack from Amazon will work for anybody.
“I prefer dumbbells, I feel like they’re more versatile.”
