Been waiting on my uconsole for a few months now. I’ve got a CM5 waiting for it. Glad to see that people in the community made this upgrade possible already.
A new carrier board would also need to support USB PD, and it would be nice to have USB 3 IO too. I suspect this would also need PCIe and having that on the main board would make the newer carrier boards incompatible with the CM3 and their other CM3 form factor modules like the R-01.
@@eijentwun5509 I use it for FT8 with my Icom 705, APRS and logging when operating stand alone. Tried SDR with an usb dongle but honestly the icom is far superior as a radio. Also loaded Chirp to program several of my radios when in the field.
I really wish this thing also had a video in for the screen and a USB out for the KB/M because it would be an amazing handheld KVM device for accessing servers in a data center while also being handheld machine and emulator. If it did that I could con my boss into letting me buy one on our budget.
theres an expansion port on it; maybe its possible to do something with that? otherwise maybe you can come up with something like a rasbperry pi zero 2 w "compute stick' type thing that you plug into the server as a dongle, and connect to it over bluetooth or wifi to the uconsole; maybe RDP from the uconsole into the pi zero?; that'd be almost even more sick since it'd be wireless
I love the idea of slapping compute modules onto boards for a quick upgrade. Love it. We need as many bangin' carrier boards as we can get. I know Jeff Geerling hinted at some testing he's doing on his second channel, there is a mini-itx CM5 board with an x16 slot on it!!!!
like the modularity, you can finetune it to your specific purpose - add card reader and storage to backup fotos or videos on the fly, remove wifi/bt but add battery power and a lower resolution lcd for a whole day or two of gaming offgrid, or add a battery bank and storage and carry around your library for SHTF situation etc....I was hoping with cell phone progress we will get modular laptops, one tiny SBC main motherboard with different specs and rest of the body for wtvr you need, additional gpu, additional battery, multiple storages, basicaly like rugged/military/expedition grade purpose build mobile workstations for the consumer....this comes pretty close
Upgrade the batteries to some 3500mah batteries, 2000 is a little last decade, I was about to start designing and 3D printing a device like this, but I might just pick one of these up instead, its bigger than I first thought.
After waiting six months for my Clockwork Pi Uconsole from February 2024 to doorstep mid November 2024 I have been waiting for the CM5 module that I can purchase but the 16G is not quite available yet. However, thanks ETAPrime for the news that a working image is available now! Have a great day!
i know this doesnt have anything to do with this video but ive always used yourvideos on galaxy phones as my defacto gaming review for them and i was wondering are you going to be doing a video on the s25 ultra. i know there are other people doing them but your videos are a much more informative and reliable source and im hoping you will even if it comes out after the phones release because I'd like to see what they are capable of while I wait for mine to come.
I'm surprised to see the thermal paste so messy from the factory. Must have been an early/preproduction thing. Mine came with a nice thermal pad for the CM4 SoC. Nice to see you can drop in a CM5, tho! Ordering one now... 🤓
@kefler187 I haven't been able to find stock of the CM5 I want. If I'm throwing one in, I want 8GB RAM and WiFi (obviously). I really don't want eMMC but if I have to, I want 32GB...8x32+WiFi is either out of stock or not shipping to the US. 😭
Ubuntu on cm5 would probably help with the driver problem but idk I am just guessing because cm5 if it can run Ubuntu the cm5 might have drivers you can use using Ubuntu because I've been doing stuff on my raspberry pi 5 and audio breaks when I use apps from raspberry pi apps on raspberry pi os so it's just a guess or a suggestion???
Where did you get that thermal pad from can you refeerence its part number or dimensions? Also do you have the information for the Waveshare Board you used to flash the software? Thank You
also can u try to put an ssd in this thing now? theres a gpio expansion port but the pinout is kinda different; maybe theres a pcbway project you can find?
Hmmm. Questions: will existing power circuit work well with new power hungry CM5? Is it possible to make power saving profile to keep battery life longer? Some script that lowers CPU and GPU clock, disables few cores and sets backlight to 30% 🤔
typically any arm based image on linux with tweaking can work. The guy who made this image doesn’t work for Clockwork pi and he has done a bunch of different os’s. Tons of people have gotten different versions of linux running on this device. Arch, Debian, Manjaro, raspberry pi os. just some examples
@ - it’s quite common in the electronics field to use a ‘u’. This is an old practice from the days before computers with copious font & symbol libraries.
Day 6 of testing if eta prime ever responds to comments when he asks us to post. Even jaystwocents responds and linus does too (someone from ltt anyway). All he has to do is like anyones post. Doesnt have to be mine. We take the time to watch but he cant comment?
imagine u have a phone whit a lot more powerfull cpu and imagine u can ad a keyboard to your phone whit d pads and now your phone is a game console or even a mini laptop

I hope clockwork releases a new carrier board with an M2 internal slot. I have been using mine for HAM radio and is a blast!

HOW have you been using it for HAM radio? please explain> Do you mean SDR++ software or as a literal radio where you can transmit with?

I might just wait on the CM5 upgrade and go with the 8gb CM4…I absolutely need that sound working properly for my usages

Looks like a blown up blackberry 😂
What is the display manager? Is it Labwc, Wayfire, or X11?
I would get this just to use as a portal PC for taking notes that can sent back to home base and such
Thanks for sharing
This is pretty cool. Is there any display out where you could hook this to an external monitor?
Oh wow...that is actually essential.
There is a micro hdmi

even thougha cm5 draws more power than cm4...its worth it bcos those things(heat & power consumption) can be managed.
Can it run crysis? 😂
Ps3 on uconsole?
so if I want it to be able to use external storage I have to get the Lite (0gb emmc) version?
May I suggest that instead of just under-clocking you may also under volt the cm5?
