Wonderfull! My hart opened. I used to work with a MF 590 2 wheel drive and a MF 575 back in the seventees and early eightees. They were wonderfull tractors. The first MF tractors with silent cabs. With powersteering and a radio. I loved working wirh them. They were strong and sturdy. And the sound of the Perkins 4 cylinder diesel engines was like music in my ears. I understand your feelings. I wish I had one. Enjoy your wonderfull work and that amazing tractor. Well done!!!
I decided to keep the yellow plates on it, I don't drive it on the road, so I haven't bothered getting Norwegian plates on it, and I love the look of the UK plates on it anyway. I bought it in Staffordshire, a place called Stone. Nice to learn some new info. Thank you! ;) - Magnus
@@MagnusMarthinsenWoodsman Good to hear from you man,,, I will see if I can find out the nearest mf dealer to Shrewsbury for you.... It would reveal it's origin from then to where it is now.. interesting how it went east to Staffordshire
I also have a MF590 4WD that needs to be restored. I use it at home in Guildford Surrey on my small holding , A great bit of kit although the roof is quite rotten and need repairing,. You seem to have made an excellent job restoring it in a very short period of time.
I,m glad you joined us , we all have a lifelong love of M-F tractors & equipment , once a Massey man , always one . Please consider joining Ferguson heritage . Right , I,ve seen you ploughing , that 590-4 will pull a 3 furrow 14 inch plough on that soil if set up right , you haven,t got too much clay so should get away with it . A little occasional hard work does a diesel good , it burns the coke out & gets the valves to bed in again . I once saw Mr Wilkinson of Same U.K. ploughing at a Leicestershire match with a big Same just ticking over at about 1200 rpm , but expertly balanced up & plough set dead right , in maize stubble . it just chattered along like it was out for a walk . you can achieve the identical result with practice . Only 3 tractor engines sounded good , Leyland , Perkins & Same . Carry on mate & good luck .
Personally i think you have very good taste, the 590 is one of the most iconic tractors ever made, not too small, not too big but just right . As for the four wheel drive, well thats just the icing on the cake, you did well to find one. Was the Multi-Power an optional extra on this tractor back in the day or standard?.
The 500 series cab paint had rust mixed in!! I spent many hours in a 590, great machine. Also 575, 698, 699 and 2620. Over here in Australia I have a 240 for keeping the grass down. BTW my father is from the west coast of Norway, Oystese.
Very nice 1976 my father bought 2 590s one 2 wheel drive the other 4 wheel drive with a opico turbo sadly with inflation and delays for the 4 wheel drive tractor to run along side a JD 3130 HWFD was cancelled as the dealer wanted thousand more for that tractor so we had two 2 wheel drive 590 s one was the main spraying tractor for years that big door took some stick from the wind was like a sail welded up many times ours were supplied with 13.6 12x38 PAVT wheels for in row work in the potato fields.😊
Agricultural contractor I worked for up in North Yorkshire bought very first one in the area, At the time he had 14 MF tractors ranging from 135's, 165's, 188's and 595's, all 2wd, in an area bordering very steep land, 4wd was essential, he was leaning toward buying small front wheel County's, all his full time staff were all for it due to near "DO's" we had, So a 590wd came, I badly needed 4wd pulling a 2 row Grimme spud harvester with often another tractor chained to the front for a little help. I was the luck bloke to get it, I had 100 acre's to lift on the Yorkshire wolds, some sweeping hills needed 4wd, Massey never let me down once, before setting of, boss told me to only put it in 4wd if needed, bosses for you, I tried both on the flat, I never had it in 2wd after my little test.............I found its achillies heel you may say, tractor was a multi power, I knew how to use it, being using it for years, on my way home with cleaned off harvester, getting pushed a bit faster down a small hill, there was the biggest bang underneath, the shaft to the front sheared, the lose shaft crashed into the gearbox smashing the casting dumping all its oil on the busy road................It appeared having no centre bearing, the shaft had got a wobble on, bent then sheared off where it came out of the drive smashing internals too...............Took MF 6 months to sort it all out, boss bought his County, never any trouble with the change of colour.
Hi Magnus what a great put together video & for you to get your childhood dream tractor. I used to drive in my teens a MF 590 2 wheel drive 2 door cab model with the sliding side window. There is a MF595 4wd full cast wheels all-round at a small pig farm near me. with no love show to it. regards' from the UK
Stunning old compact tractor 🚜🙌🏼 i have bought my very first Belarus soviet tractor 🚜☺️ still a therapy to drive as I had dreamed of buying a tractor from very very long time ago so it came through even tho I don’t use it that much 😂 only for therapy driving ☺️🤣
Are you using a 14" plow with a 16" track width? Looks like it. The Perkins engines in the 590´s and the 680´s for that matter had superior lower rpm torque, but lacked a little as rpm rose. Around here several of these got retrofitted with a turbo which made them great pullers and gave them the torque reserves needed to exploit the 4wd properly.
The plow is 14" I believe, it's too small for the 590, better suited for a 35 or 135, but its what I got to plough my potato field. Does the job. Great engines indeed! ;) - Magnus
The plough is too small for the tractor, so won't get any beautiful furrows with that back on the 590, but it's only my small potato field I am ploughing, so no worries. Thx ;) - Magnus
Ur a very lucky man, my only brand new tractor was a MF 590 FWD with Opico Turbo. I loved that tractor.
