The boss fight being easy is likely due to the fact that he was originally programmed/planned to be multi-phase, with like demonic deformation forms and stuff, likely ending with an amalgam form similar to the likes of the SNES era FF final battles. Idk what others are saying but this wasn't as easy. I did have to use a mega-phoenix once. I also did few side quests and only a couple hunts so my Lvl was below the recommended level. If you want a challenge, limit your leveling up
Just wondering, but if they elaborated on the Arcana system more (say doing Tombs also gave you rings with techniques in them) so you can do on point heals for MP, and then used that to build on the full power sections (and some item nerfs, of course). Think that may help?
I love the music in Final Fantasy XV I really do. Square give us a cool final boss battle with great music and a good villain. Yet some people still moan.
Adam Clark today's era is filled with idiots who only moan now! if this game came out back in the day it would most likely be called the best final fantasy ever
Unlikely. Chrono Trigger came out decades ago and it's still lauded as one of the best JRPGs of all time, and rightfully so not just because of how ahead of its time it was on the SNES, but for how well it holds up today as well. I can't ever see myself telling people, now or in the distant future: "DUDE, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST PLAY FINAL FANTASY XV, IT'LL BLOW YOUR MIND!" but I've said as much for Chrono Trigger. And Final Fantasy Tactics. This game is just average. Not a garbage tier 2/10, not a life changing 9/10. Just a tedious but pretty 6.
No-ones slating the music. The music was the absolute bomb, and the villain was a good blend of suave and creepy. The reason people moan is because the game was in development for 11 years, and they haven't finished it yet. I have the music on my iPod. No regrets whatsoever. It's the gameplay that lets it down.
@@winglessangelful if this came out in the 90s then we would have had the final boss mutating into some weird looking shit and fighting him in some weird realm with a really trippy light show in the background
Wow... I have only played the games platinum demo and the graphics left me stunned, the graphics still look beautiful and stunning to this day along with the music
he was a damn fantastic villain, one of the best ive ever seen. He was cunning, uber threatening, but still had that sense of tragedy behind him that drove him to be the monster he wound up being. It was nice having a villain too that wasnt craving for power or self gain, all he wanted was revenge for being unfairly punished and to finally be put to rest for good. The fact that no matter what way you look at it he won in the end really pushes him high up on the list of best villains.
Oh, I know I'm not. Heh.. do a search for Ardyn DLC on google, or check the FFXV reddit. People everywhere are talking about this guy. Everyone is either confused about his story, or wants to know more. :) In a fanpoll, an option for DLC with him even beat out Luna by like 30 points. I just hope Square actually GIVES us something. I've already bought the season pass, and I would be more than willing to give them even MORE monies for Ardyn's history. :)
Had so much potential... the fact there would be DLC ruined the fucking game. Just release it finished, for the love of god. If all the character development and story was there along with better gameplay, this game would've been so damn good.
Man Ifrit was definetly the harder boss but Ardyn had me fucking squealing every time he used the Royal Arms that I hadnt unlocked or he pulled a Fiagra up and knocked me the fuck out...
ok. loved the ifrit battle and the soundtrack. felt like fighting some big shit then getting rekt and then getting back up and turning the tides (even tho i got rekt like all the time and spammed the fuck out of my phoenix's)
Ifrit was fucking great but i prefer ardyn due to the story implications, dialogue, and my love for fighting bosses that are basically you in fighting style.
Technically speaking, from a lore standpoint, Ifrit is the final boss of the setting, the one who CREATED the starscourge, while Ardyn is the final boss of Noctis's story being the one who engineered his kingdom's fall and purpously caused him as much suffering as possible, going so far as to help him, just so he can push him lower later.
Think about it if this boss was as hard final fantasy fans wanted it to be, that would Defeat the whole purpose of making a game for fans and newcomers. Square Enix needs more people on the franchise
Cordero Ebberhart I agree. I for one never played a FF game and I tried this one out an loved it! Going to try the older ones (I know it's not the same combat but I am loving squares story telling)
Ferdinand Andre It doesn't lend itself as well to a battle theme, I tried arranging it and the first part is just a lot easier to use. Shimomura probably had the same problem...or just flat out decided not to use it.
I take issue with the final boss of this game. First, consider what is a final boss supposed to be in a game. Imo, it's a final test of the player's mechanical skill and game knowledge that's been acquired throughout the game. This game, instead, removes your party members, removing one of the core components of the game. And then, in phase 2, the game abandons the mechanics of the game entirely and replaces them with this cinematic sky battle that's won by holding down 'O'. I was dearly hoping for another phase of the fight where Noctis joins back up with his bros and had a true showdown with a god-like Final Fantasy style final boss. There was the set up for that at the end (in space, and demon tears and everything), calling upon the power of his friends and loved ones to deliver the final blow to Ardyn. But instead of a proper fight, we get a QTE.
I agree, but from I've read from (unconfirmed) rumours, the final showdown was supposed to be against a transformed Ardyn, in what would have been a proper boss battle, but due to the time constraints that haunted the game's development it was neutered to this.
Despite many characters and points they really need to flesh out, I disagree with this one. I think Ardyn was done very well, showing every range of his character and motivations in the subtleties of his tones and expressions in his scenes. This was a very strong point in my opinion.
The in-dev booster pack DLC does plan to flesh out most of the antagonists, among other things, but from what I gather it's more for Ravus and the empire as a whole, as well as making the jump-cuts int eh story actual story moments, making Luna join sooner so the players can actually get to know her before the climax in Altissia, and of course the very likely plant o make the Empire map they made actually explorable (or at least give the train a bunch more stops instead of like 3)
Deeani Gonzalez I dont think so. We dont even know hes the main bad guy until the end. Hes revealed so abruptly and we just waltz into the final battle just like that. Plus they explained his motivations way too quickly. We dont even know who or what he was. Was he a King? An Oracle? I certainly didnt pick up on it
Technically this is the only final fantasy game to have a bad ending because the true mastermind behind this is bahamut I don’t want to spoil it so read dawn of the future it tells you about the three scrapped dlcs for this game
there was actually more phases planned, but they had to be cut like most things in the second half because Square wouldnt let Tabata hold the game off another 6 months due to the contract Nomura signed in 06. Hence why only a week later Tabata pointed out he plans to make a huge story overhaul DLC called the booster pack that will be a free download, but also pointed out it will be a while due to how much of the plot he'll need to shift around, as well as the voice acting and dub work that it will entail.
Malcolm Swoboda XIII-2's DLC didn't give a real ending, since it was abundantly clear there was going to be a sequel (which explained everything perfectly anyway). Granted the Lightning chapter shouldn't have been DLC at all but still. As for this game I'm relatively sure they decided to leave the ending open to interpretation, possibly due to internal problems, possibly due to not wanting to disappoint anyone. I doubt the DLC planned for XV will delve into that, but hey, I could be wrong.
Malcolm Swoboda Still the same point - we knew there was going to be a sequel, you could play XIII-2 without the DLC, play LR afterwards and still know roughly what was going on. It wasn't a "real ending" so much as an optional interlude to LR.
This...is the real ending. The only story DLC plans they really have beyond the character episodes is the Booster Pack DLC that will overhaul and lengthen a large majority of the main story, and likely make both the empire and dark world explorable like originally planned...and that's free DLC, unlike the episodes, so.
I wish Ardynn's character wasn't effected by the long development cycle. They build him up to be a great character then at the very end he suddenly turns into the "ultimate evil generic bad guy" trope.
As for what I'm talking about they set Ardynn to be a suicidal character. Someone who wanted to die but cant. He referred to his immortality as a curse even. Ardynn could only be killed by the king of light. He couldn't just ask the king of light either because it would cost the king his own life.
So what did Ardynn have to do then? He had to force Noctis to kill him. Every single action Ardynn took was to help Noctis do this. Why did he let Noctis past the barricade to preform the Trial of Titan? To make him stronger. He allowed Noctis to take the Mythril ore so he could reach the Trial of Leviathan.
Why did he kill Lady Luna? Well if Luna was still alive wouldn't Noctis hesitate to give up his own life when the time came? Ardynn can't take that risk. He kidnapped Prompto to snap him out of his cry baby state. It also strengthened their bonds but that's just a side effect. Once he reaches the Imperial Capital the entire time he calls him a sad prince. Saying he was using his friends as crutches. Only after he proves himself worthy does he let Noctis see his friends again.
While trying to enter a elevator in the capital Ardynn crashes the scaffolding so Noctis would retrieve the last sword. He shove Noctis into the crystal so he could complete his last trial and the world a place of eternal night so Noctis would have no other choice to kill him if he wanted to save everyone.
How ardyn has royal arm armiger crystal power?... He was the first lucis king right.. How come he has the weapon of his relative descendant generation that noctis owned too.?
it was okay until he ended up not having a second phase. he should've transformed into a half demon or had his own special summon that'd he pull out at the last moment.
well his second phase is the flying section, frankly i adore that he didnt transform, breaking the age old FF tradition in favor of an epic one on one fight of equal standing is amazing to me.
Exactly! it made the fight feel way more human, like it was a fight between two people with opposing motives and not like a grandiose fight between a champion and a daemon
while the flying section looked cool it also seemed like i couldn't fail and was not using skill. I just attacked the whole time. i would've preferred a giant monster thing
There actually had been plans to give him multiple phases...but that was one of the many things they had to cut for time since Square wouldnt let them hold off another 6 months.
The end segment against Ardyn can be won by holding down square (it doesnt drain MP for some reason) and holding down circle. Hated the wasted boss fight.
You clearly haven't played the game because I can assure you that if the game wouldn't let you pause to heal, it makes the game flat-out cheap. Trust me when I say that the gameplay here is nothing like Kingdom Hearts. It's not designed in a way that would make it simple to scroll through the items like Kingdom Hearts would.
Ward TBE? Kovalev Got Outboxed Bitches And you're acting like that can't happen... >_> Especially if an enemy depletes all your health and danger zone all at once (which happens more than you think), in which case you only can use Phoenix Down's, which are very expensive.

@@MekkahDee Didn't that get destroyed by Nyx or am I just misremembering
Idk what others are saying but this wasn't as easy. I did have to use a mega-phoenix once. I also did few side quests and only a couple hunts so my Lvl was below the recommended level. If you want a challenge, limit your leveling up
Ardyn really just said “let’s take it to the streets”
He did, but not in words.
Action speak louder then words so still
Just wondering, but if they elaborated on the Arcana system more (say doing Tombs also gave you rings with techniques in them) so you can do on point heals for MP, and then used that to build on the full power sections (and some item nerfs, of course).
@@ExtremeDarkness Fun fact; that was ACTUALLY meant to happen to Ardyn in the second phase but it got cut for... idk why.
Fits a cinematic battle to the death between two kings with a modern city as their stage
hidden fact: real villain is Bahamut
There are several major weaknesses with FF15's story line, but Ardyn is one of the best, maybe even the best, villain in the series.
Wow...
I have only played the games platinum demo and the graphics left me stunned, the graphics still look beautiful and stunning to this day along with the music
I love ardyn. He's my all time favourite villain. gorgeous too. love older guys with that accent mmmm
he was a damn fantastic villain, one of the best ive ever seen.
Amazing guy . I adore him .
I agree. His story is so beautiful and tragic. I would kill for a DLC or a prequel game from his point of view. :)
Amazing !!!
Y'know, I SERIOUSLY cannot get over how much aged up Noctis looks like motherfucking Tom Cruise with a beard
more like norman reedus from walking dead to be honest
bless339 .... *looks at Noctis, then looks back at bless339* Nah, I still say Tom Cruise. Or Christian Bale, if not Tom Cruise.
lol he went from 20 years old to 30 years old.
also, the ring makes the wearer to age faster
He looks like John Wick aka Keanu Reeves to me, what with the look and suit.
*thumbnail and description were kept vague to avoid spoilers*
*shows gameplay from the final boss anyways*
This might wind up in your recommendations
And to think this is the “bad” ending since the true ending is in the novel. Hate Square for canceling the DLC.
OK i don't find older guys attractive usually but ardyn might as well be named arDAMN CUZ HONEY
0:00 to 10:13
Had so much potential... the fact there would be DLC ruined the fucking game. Just release it finished, for the love of god. If all the character development and story was there along with better gameplay, this game would've been so damn good.
cry about the DLCs
I miss this sound last time I play this game about few months ago
We need more Ardyn armiger moments...
I keep hearing strains of Suteki da Ne and ff7's battle theme mixed in with this. Stupid clogged up brain.
2:46 is the best part
0:00 -10:13
In my mind it was more epic when I was fighting Ardyn
8:16 The same as Uncharted 4's boss battle....
So that is how you would end it......
Man Ifrit was definetly the harder boss but Ardyn had me fucking squealing every time he used the Royal Arms that I hadnt unlocked or he pulled a Fiagra up and knocked me the fuck out...
I hear bits of Kingdom Hearts II's Desire for All that is Lost
For all that this game had a lot of flaws, they absolutely nailed the soundtrack
The power.... OF LIGHT!
Ahh' a king at last!
Suprisingly enough i killed ardyn without potions cause i ran out against ifrit lmao.
I can’t help but think of the animated prequel to Episode Ardyn when I hear and see this @ 8:30
Equip Ragnarok and enjoy ridiculous warp strike damage from how big the first arena is
ifrit was a better final boss tham ardyn lol
Ifrit is the gameplay last boss and ardyn is the cinematic last boss i guess that's what they went for
ok. loved the ifrit battle and the soundtrack. felt like fighting some big shit then getting rekt and then getting back up and turning the tides (even tho i got rekt like all the time and spammed the fuck out of my phoenix's)
Ifrit was fucking great but i prefer ardyn due to the story implications, dialogue, and my love for fighting bosses that are basically you in fighting style.
meh i like it more challenging
Technically speaking, from a lore standpoint, Ifrit is the final boss of the setting, the one who CREATED the starscourge, while Ardyn is the final boss of Noctis's story being the one who engineered his kingdom's fall and purpously caused him as much suffering as possible, going so far as to help him, just so he can push him lower later.
If only Nomura hadn't been involved in this...
Bosses could be easy if it serves a story purpose, this obviously does
RailMango word of advice: avoid Final Fantasy 13, 13-2, and Lightning Returns like the plague.
Story bosses are always easy. It's the hidden bosses that provide real challenge in any RPG.
Too bad they cut out his transformation Phase.
I feel bad for kicking his ass.
I do realize this theme only uses the first part of somnus.
But where's the last part?
Ferdinand Andre It doesn't lend itself as well to a battle theme, I tried arranging it and the first part is just a lot easier to use. Shimomura probably had the same problem...or just flat out decided not to use it.
Ferdinand Andre I feel that the last part of somnus could have been used for Phase 3 of the boss fight
Nvm, it's used when noctis used his ring in the afterlife :v
Ferdinand Andre Huh, nice catch. Didn't realise that, was a bit busy being tearing up lmao.
Because it's supposed to be intermingling of parts of Somnus and Ardyn's theme. Their leitmotifs bouncing off of each other to represent the clash.
this sounds like it sampled beat n music from ff7 bombing mission? love it either way tho, yoko shimomura did a great job on the ost!
This game was just epic.
I love this game. The fact that Ardin is your equal (not rly)in this fight is amazing.
woah aside from ff7, is it also sampling ff8 liberi fetali? i can't stop hearing them. this is awesome
Fantastic!!
The Title is Magna Insomnia
Magna Insomnia
I like that theme 2 ardyn...
Aged Noct look like someone name Musashi if he wearing traditional japanese clothing XD

If only Ardyn was more fleshed out and built up as a villain. There should have been more to him, cause what he has as a concept is pretty great.
I really wished the final boss would’ve been Bahamut, considering he literally led all of this to happen
And today on top 10 best anime battles...
tell me you hear those who fight. tell me I'm not delusional.
Every Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts have similar Opera and piano theme lmao
Epic
I wanted a supermegaboss After ardyn like kuja and necron in the IX with no potions or bullshit that make this game so easy.
there was actually more phases planned, but they had to be cut like most things in the second half because Square wouldnt let Tabata hold the game off another 6 months due to the contract Nomura signed in 06.
Hence why only a week later Tabata pointed out he plans to make a huge story overhaul DLC called the booster pack that will be a free download, but also pointed out it will be a while due to how much of the plot he'll need to shift around, as well as the voice acting and dub work that it will entail.

Real Ending DLC Oh No. And don't think they wouldn't (see FFXIII-2).
Harpistry Yes, I'm talking about the Lightning chapter.
Malcolm Swoboda Still the same point - we knew there was going to be a sequel, you could play XIII-2 without the DLC, play LR afterwards and still know roughly what was going on. It wasn't a "real ending" so much as an optional interlude to LR.
Nah, the ending is as real as it gets. Adding anything more would just ruin it.
Adam What? Luna dies?
How ardyn has royal arm armiger crystal power?... He was the first lucis king right.. How come he has the weapon of his relative descendant generation that noctis owned too.?
He shares a strange Bond with the lucis family so when a king sits on the throne their weapon become's his personal one too.

Anyone know what plays after these like when noctis SPOILERS dies and he kills ardyn the music there was epic but I can't find it.
Somnus Ultima
JokerPalazzo thank you so much man omg that music makes me cry thank you lol.
david pitre You're Welcome, enjoy ;)
Unpopular opinion bahamut and somnus were the true villains. Ardyn is an antihero forced to play the bad guy.
That's actually a confirmed fact now with the novel after the events of the game
You know, I just spoiled this to myself and tbh...
Like yeah no shit this guys the big bad. Literally no other character could have been.
Does anyone know what the theme is actually called? If so- what is it on SoundCloud...
Magna insomnia I think
Magna Insomnia
it was okay until he ended up not having a second phase. he should've transformed into a half demon or had his own special summon that'd he pull out at the last moment.
ponquinful If you think about it, he did summon Ifrit before they entered the citadel. Perhaps being cocky
well his second phase is the flying section, frankly i adore that he didnt transform, breaking the age old
FF tradition in favor of an epic one on one fight of equal standing is amazing to me.
Exactly! it made the fight feel way more human, like it was a fight between two people with opposing motives and not like a grandiose fight between a champion and a daemon
while the flying section looked cool it also seemed like i couldn't fail and was not using skill. I just attacked the whole time. i would've preferred a giant monster thing
There actually had been plans to give him multiple phases...but that was one of the many things they had to cut for time since Square wouldnt let them hold off another 6 months.

anyone else think this sounds similar to Sweeny Todd in some parts?
The fight seriously could be better.
Omg this makes me so fuzzy !!!
The end segment against Ardyn can be won by holding down square (it doesnt drain MP for some reason) and holding down circle.
Hated the wasted boss fight.
It would have Been more epic if they showed Ardyn's full Power instead of making him use only the royal arms.

Because I'm smrt.
what's with the weird transition here from phase 1 to 2? It's missing a section from the actual track
Why tf does the game pause when choosing an item? That makes it too fucking easy WTF
Easy ≠ Convenient. Trawling through menus to find the item you want while holding defend wouldn't be hard, just annoying.
C4DNerd you literally can't die unless you run out of items you noob
Ward TBE? Kovalev Got Outboxed Bitches And you're acting like that can't happen... >_>
Especially if an enemy depletes all your health and danger zone all at once (which happens more than you think), in which case you only can use Phoenix Down's, which are very expensive.
Agree, I think they should put a cooldown on items, depending on their type.
Am I the only one who thought this final fight was underwhelming I mean I was even under leveled and this fight was still easy.
Glitchy plays -
I think Ardyn was meant to be cinematic, not challenging.
