In this running shoe review Max and Lars checks out the newly released Asics GEL-Nimbus 25, the most comfortable running shoe (in the world?), and we have compared it to the old Asics GEL-Nimbus 24.
If you want the best daily trainer, or the most comfortable max cushioned shoe in the world then the Asics GEL-Nimbus 25 is a great option. It is bouncy, soft and also very versatile because of the new rocker design.
Asics GEL-Nimbus 25 certainly makes quite the case for being on the best shoes of 2023 list, at least it deserves a spot on the best daily trainers of 2023 list so far.

      Invincible Run 3
Adidas? They've been leaning too much on their Boost and now they've been left behind even Puma with their Nitro stuff is better.

Hey :D Thanks for the nice comment.
I have noticed it a lot lately, tha there is a big difference between running a in a shoe with a lot of rocker compared to one without it. You have to get used to it both ways. The same is with a softer or a firmer shoe.
Generally when I run in a new shoe I need my body to adapt for a couple of miles before I start feeling how the shoe really runs. In the start the differences seem to be amplified and you feel it is overly soft, or overly firm and so on.

I just purchased these shoes and wanted to watch a couple of reviews before lacing up. My knees are extremely shot due to running, I'm hoping with these shoes and some pt, I can get back into the running scene again. As for the review, this video is gold. This is the new "kegger" video at the local frat house. Every time someone says "yeah", or "yup " you take a shot! Totally drunk within 4 minutes. Thanks guys!

Well to be fair, I am not a runner but that being said, I just received my Nimbus 24's after returning the 25's. I really like them both but the 24's really do the job and feel 'faster' or less cumbersome in some ways..Doesn't hurt that I also got them for about $80!

These shoes nimbus 25 are an oven that is burning my feet just from normal walking. Heat comes from the insole not the upper. I don’t know what material has been used for the insole but it heats up very fast and by a lot.

I have nimbus 24 and just got nimbus 26..the 24 feels more jelly cushion in the heel as I walk.. The 26 doesn't have that gelky feel in the heel but from mid foot to front I feel the cushion as I walk.. 2 very different feelings.. I think I prefer the 24 but the 26 is comfy also just in a different way.. I need more time in the 26 to make a final decision..

I want to like them, but not working for me very well. I am 64, had heart stent last year and 3 back surgeries. I have been walking for exercise and going longer distances of 10 -18 miles (long for me anyway). I dropped from 248 pounds to 185 so far. Trying to trim off the fat and eat and get healthier.
Anyway, the Nimbus 25 is too squishy for me and when I go down steep hills, they jar my whole lower back worse than any other shoe I have tried so far. I currently have Altra via Olympus and Hoka Bondi 8 and Asics Gel Venture 8. Tried NB More v4 (too squishy and just flat to me). Tried Brooks Adrenaline and Glycerin, Adidas Ultraboost 22 and light, Puma Deviate Nitro 2, couple Mizuno, Topo, and none of them worked for me or fit my feet very well. I have some foot issues that are being a headache for me and I really am not supposed to walk so far or so long. I have Hallux Rigidus in both big toe joints. The left big toe actually has bone over the top of the joint, so it cannot flex back like it should. The right big toe joint has fragments of bone in the top of the joint. I also have some metatarsalgia pain and pain in the sides of the little toes. Right foot is shorter and wider and has a bigger instep, so almost every shoe is causing me pain on top of right foot even with trying different lacing methods and elastic laces. So, I have been struggling to find any shoe to work for me so far. The Adidas and Puma I didn’t actually try walking anywhere because they fit too snug around top of feet and too much pressure on big toe joints just walking in the stores. If I had a normal, healthy foot, they probably would be great.
The Nimbus 24 I just got to try out as I liked them in the store and that they have a firmer feel and a little more breathable upper. However, one short walk, I had discomfort in lower back the entire walk and rubbing and discomfort to big toe of left foot (outer side of the toe). Also, pain across top part right side of right foot into the little toe area. So, I may have to return them already.
My Altra via Olympus have done the best on long walks, the Hoka Bondi 8 do well the first 3 - 4 miles, then pains start kicking in. I get pains in the Altra as well, but I can go further before getting the pains. I like the firmer feel of the Altra.
I really do need surgery on both big toe joints, but I have been procrastinating and not wanting to do that.
Even my Asic Gel Venture 8 feel okay for a few miles. I have not had any issues with heel pain in any of the shoes I tried. They all absorb the heel strikes pretty well with walking.
I also noticed that when I walk faster pace for burning more calories and to get heart rate up more, I get more pains than walking at easy paces. For me as a fairly recent walker, 3.3 - 3.8 mph is my faster paces I can sustain.
I have not tried the Kyano 29 yet. I guess I could try the Nimbus 25 again, but try to walk real slow downhill or a different way of striking the ground so as not to jar my back as much. I want to do hills to get my heart rate up as my heart rate doesn’t get even into fat burning zone on level ground.
With need of a wide shoe width, it sure cuts down on choices at the various shoe stores and really cuts down on color choices. The Puma and Adidas stores near me didn’t have any wide shoes to try. Asics store has some limited models and sizes in wide, but better than the other shoe brand stores in that regard.
I get the least amount of metatarsal pain in the Altra via Olympus so far.
I will give the Nimbus 24 another shot and see how they feel and if still causes me lower back discomfort. First time was only 0.7 miles which is very minimal walk.
I know I should do shorter walks. Probably do multiple short walks instead of long walks. Also, 98% of my walking is on hard concrete and asphalt as that is easiest and most accessible places for me to walk. Most of the trails are paved and I live in town. So, the cushioning seemed like a good choice with hard surfaces and metatarsalgia pain.

    • @jamesstover718
      @jamesstover718 Год назад

Wanted to add that my biggest problem with the Altra via Olympus is they are too much pressure on too of my right foot even with taking some of the crossovers out of the lacing and trying elastic laces. Cannot even try another insole or orthotic as they are usually thicker than the sock liner and make the problem worse on top of foot. They need a little more vertical volume for me.
I am also getting rubbing on the outer sides of both heels in the Altra via Olympus and the Hoka Bondi 8. I also got a bad blister on right little toe in the Bondi 8. Tried 4 different insoles in the Bondi 8 and elastic laces as I also get the pressure and pain on top of my right foot.
After I get up over 6 miles on a walk, I start getting pain on outer part of both big toes in both the via Olympus and Bondi 8. The Bondi 8 is more breathable for summer temps. My feet bake like in an oven in the via Olympus.
So, that is why I keep searching for now.

Great walking shoe. I bought a pair and have no idea how anyone would run in these. It's like running on mattresses. I think this shoe would be an outstanding shoe for older folks who want to walk, people who are employed in occupations that require them to be on their feet all day, and bigger people just starting out in running who don't need much support. This is not a shoe for an experienced runner. It's ridiculous.

I Dont like the new set of 25s asics dropped this year. They are 90% cushened and only 10% stability. While the cumulus 24 for example was the perfect middle between both. It was a shoe for marathons and off roading. The 25s are recov and 10k run shoes tops. And i dont really need a 200 bucks recov run shoe.

We also tried the Cumulus 24 on a test run a few months back and were really happy with how it has improved this year.
Our testers like both shoes for different reasons. But if you like a bit more stability the Cumulus 24 is a great shoe with a bit more versatility than the Nimbus 25.
