Pay attention around 3:20 when he clears the loop, then lays down a new line, then adds to it at least 4x, then lets that loop while he plays off it for the next minute.
I love the combination of modern technology with old-school style roots instruments.
This video is inspiration to hunt down my old 3-string cardboard cigar box guitar and try learning slide again. Mine doesn't have any frets so it's slide-only.

If you ever want some temp frets or at least a fret marker thats not just from sharpie or something, i've seen really cool fret markers using black zipties on a budget
