This shows his skill. Without frets you have to rely on an absolutely perfect understanding of the fretboard as well as having a well trained ear. Much respect!
Michael Miller that’s not how it works... There’s still as much as a half inch to an inch worth of tonal play around those dots. You could put your finger right on that dot and simply roll your finger forward and back to get different notes. So going from the 1st fret all the way up to the 9th and having the notes work with each other does take a lot of skill
It helps that he's playing the blues. Not to take anything away from his skill but one of the characteristics of the blues genre is microtonal bends. Though you still have to know how/when/where/why to use that power.

Played this song as I drove through Louisiana and Mississippi swamps on my way to Alabama. Made the trip very different from all the previous trips.
Perfect 👌 did you cross the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge?
I showed this video to my wife with an "I want that pleeeeeeeeze" look. Could not find one anywhere. Turns out, my wife has a friend who is a professional luthier and he is building me one now with a Telecaster body and guts. It'll be ready for Christmas and DAYAMN I cannot WAIT to play it!
Heard 2 seconds, had to run inside to plug it in to the sound system so the neighbors could listen as well. Legba would be proud 😈
Now that's a guy that knows every aspect of every device he uses! An awesome inspiration! Way to go, again, Justin!
This is to date the best guitar moments channel ive come across. Every time you pick up a guitar it sounds amazing Justin! :D
Can i just say... I fell in love at first strum. Beautiful and so comfortable playing with ease. I could hear and watch forever! Merry me!!
The energy in your music is so soulful and beyond incredible.
OMG I LoVe this music and the guy playing it. Amazing talent and totally deserves to be acknowledged as an incredible guitarist by musicians and non musicians alike...😜. Everything by Justin that I have listened to just blows me away. Words fail me cos there's not enough accolades to use for his talents🤩💜💖💝 I'm a fan forever ❣❣❣
I just came across your music. Watching you play is one of the most captivating and pleasurable things I've ever seen. Your music rips my heart out in the most haunting and chilling way. I hope to see you play in person one day. You're incredible.
Giggity Giggity Goo.
That's crazy.. I had a dream about a fretless guitar the other day and here I am. And I have a telecaster.. I want one like you have now.. dude you Jam!!!
This blues makes me start a fire and smoke a brisket while sipping some whiskey in my backyard. I love this song!
I don’t know what flows through your veins, but it’s beautiful. 💕
JESUS! This guy is good!
He doesn't even know how good he is! He makes it looks easy and plays effortlessly! I hope you get a big contract with a giant record company! Or not but still make $$$$ off your superior talent!
The exploration of sounds in this vid is excellent!! I use this in my music classes to help students understand the idea of being "students of sound" not just "people who play music"!
Awesome stuff!!
I picture a dirty and worn down old coal miner walking off into the desert sunset at the end of a badass action movie to this song....
Some MMA fighter should should have this be his walkout music. This has a certain Americana quality that swaggers.
Love this. Gives me chills. Hear them crossroads calling my name..
Although I love Justin playing The Beatles and everything he plays I so love this 1 the best Justin Johnson you are phenomenon I always find myself at peace and love your sound. Great One Man band. Love and peace to you soul brother
Raunchy, gritty, dirty, evil sounding blues tune!...simply awesome Justin! Keep the tunes coming bro! Lovin' them!
This has to be one of the greatest things I've heard in a looong while- it digs right in ya! Superb!!
I love the sound of the fretless guitar first time I have heard it and I want more
I played this for my cat, he just looked at me....f**kin' cats.
Frickin cats man lmao
My 3 rescue Cats all dig this... they knew the blues early in life!
@@stevenmetzger3385 I have 6...4 dump rescues :)
The best one I've seen is "I played this for my wife and now she's my cousin"
mine looked at me like the soul of the mountain lion in her woke up for a second. then went back to sleep lmao
Everyone seems to make witty remarks but I haven’t seen anyone yet who admires his collection of guitars in the background of his videos. This man has pure passion for the instrument
Don't fret, my friend.
Best comment on youtube!
Wahahaha
That comment is a slippery slide to Punsiana
@@archeogaming I see what you did there
Andy Bryant i get it.
The trem effect there is wicked, great crushing sound
YOU ROCK! Keep the tunes coming, brother of the electric strings! Great afterglow at the end too!
This has GOT to be posted to all the major music streaming places. I need this on my playlist.
This is my new world covid soundtrack for when there is only 20 people left and I'm walking dusty roads in the north of England looking for life
Love that. You don't get much dark British humour on this channel.
@@judybrown483 us In the north are dark and to far from what the world knows as English ..north south UK devide Vikings and marauders in the north , french concubines in the south 🤣😘🤫
Next time Quentin Tarantino is looking for someone to soundtrack his movies, well this Cat's the guy he's looking for. That tune has got 'Ol Scratchs' fingerprints all over it!💀
EXACTLY!
Seriously a genius with sound😍
Always so fascinated with Justin Johnson and love his Indian style
