    RICKY DOES NOT have an ego. he's not the kind of person who trips out over stupid stuff. I know from personal experience. my dad and I are real good friends with Ricky and have never ONCE seen one ounce of ego out of him. taking solos on two different instruments doesn't mean he has an ego...just means he's that good. period.

    This one was from back when he was mainstream country, not bluegrass. He recorded tthis one and I think won a Grammy for best intrumental. He left country and went back to his roots in bluegrass.

    He's that good and that much of a legend. If he;s charging 35k per show, he must be able to get it when he wants it. If you want the best at a show you have to pay for it. He's top notch and everyone knows it.

  • @billb0925

    It's not ego if you can back it up, and Ricky can back it up. He played a benefit for a little girl in a civic center just outside Tupelo, Mississippi when Kentucky Thunder was just getting started, and egomaniacs don't do that. If he's picky about how he wants things, well, he's earned the right to be picky.

    For all the whiners on here, this was when Ricky Skaggs was still full on country. They are doing a bluegrass song but in a country style. "There are no drums in bluegrass!!" Well, yeah. No shit. There is no electric guitar in bluegrass either. They were not trying to be traditional bluegrass. So what? A good instrumental is a good instrumental. Ricky, as we well know, eventually went back to his bluegrass roots and THAT is traditional. Go listen to that and THEN whine if there are drums and electric guitars in it.

  • @elibryrob
    @elibryrob 4 года назад +1

    I think the guys playing the drums and electric bass are very talented musicians, but I think it would’ve been better had they used an upright bass and maybe a more conservative arrangement on the drums. I do think the Telecaster adds a unique twist to it, though.

    About 90 percent of people that I've ever heard tell talk about Jimmy Martin weather it be meeting them or playing with him..Pretty much said the same thing. This is not bluegrass. Bluegrass consists of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and upright bass. To take a line from "Murder on Music Row", no drums or rock-n-roll guitars.

    Drums drown out Rickie's mando breaks. NO DRUMS IN BLUEGRASS!!!! Mr. Bill Monroe is crying mad in heaven over this. Not to mention electric guitars ........

    • @ChevyBalt87
      @ChevyBalt87 6 лет назад +2

      Bill didn’t seem crying mad to me, on the times he played with Ricky on stage, and there were drums, piano, and everything else behind them. I’m a die hard traditional bluegrass fan too, but good music is good music, and Ricky has done a fantastic job over the years of bridging the gap between bluegrass and country. Ever heard the live in London album? How about the Osmond Brothers? Or Jimmy Martin? It’s impossible to get anymore Truegrass than Jimmy Martin, and he had drums all through his big hits. I don’t prefer drums in my grass band, but to say they don’t belong is highly debatable. I do agree, though, that they’re too loud in this particular performance

    • @HMDickson
      @HMDickson 6 лет назад +1

    No names here I am afraid, I am keeping them to myself, but at least two top bluegrass musicians I have talked to have spoken with utter disdain towards Skaggs as a person. Never as a musician though.
