    Love this song, let's give credit to Guy Clark for writing it. For all those mystified by Ricky when he sings "Pride if you're rich..." it really goes "Pride is a bitch and a bore when you're lonely". What a line!!

      I actually came here to check that one out! Heard a recording of Guy singing it and went "whaaaa???" - that's a *much* better original line than the way Ricky (probably had to) sings it! I saw Ricky in '84 or so, seemed like he'd just started to focus on mandolin in that tour but sang this big hit too. Nothing like waking up a 13-year-old comment thread! :D

    This Austin City Limits show is from 1985 I believe. He plays a lot of songs from his 1985 album, "Waitin' for the Sun to Shine". The same year he won CMA "Entertainer of the Year". I saw him in concert that year in Columbia, SC. Whether it's country or bluegrass, Ricky always gives you your money's worth. Incredible musician.

    hey there my steel playin' brother! just saying hey and letting you know that actually i think it was something to do with CBS not letting him follow his heart on which way to go musically...i cannot say for sure but i do believe

    it has always been my experience that Ricky has always done that. I really don't know if it would be the sound tech's fault. It was probably just habit

    Do you have the full Austin City Limits episode from 1982, where Larry Gatlin and Ricky Skaggs perform, includes opening credits with music by John Mills, closing credits with "London Homesick Blues", funding credits, and the 1971 PBS logo at the end?

    • @rgahrens
      @rgahrens  4 года назад +1

      Sorry. The short answer is no. Unfortunately, I did not record the Larry Gatlin segment. Opening credits, yes. Closing credits yes. Logo? I would have to check. Hope you are enjoying this.

      I would love to post a recording of Ray Flacke playing the best solo I have ever heard but when I did it was taken down because of copyrights.

  • @musicianforjesus
    @musicianforjesus 15 лет назад

    Yeah it was. For contractual reasons he could only record Country and when he signed with Atlantic the album sells wern't good and they wouldn't let him record a bluegrass album on their label so he left and started his own label and now he can do anything he wants.

    Great performance by Ricky--
    and don't think it's easy singing and playing through the whole song with a dead raccoon camped out on your head.
