There's something so cathartic about this performance. The way all of their instruments blend together, absolutely mind-blowing. Pink Floyd was such a solid live band.
I grew up with Floyd. I didn't discover this absolute gem until my 20s, though, around 2003-4. This was the best thing on the Pompeii film, followed closely by Echoes.
Lol, you sound like me. My dad got umma gumma when I was about 18 or 19. That's when the pink Floyd experience told hold. A lot of psychedelics were had with Floyd.
+MechaMonk Seriously though, he's always been known as a sub-par drummer, but that's when you're comparing "technical" and flashy skills. As far as how he can carry a beat to match the band's playing, he's phenomenal, and always has been, and this is a PERFECT example of it
+Matthew Radke he definitely had the most freedom in their earlier work, as Roger Waters started to take over, Mason faded a bit. Still great albums though
For such a simple two note line with the odd flourish here and there (as reprised in some of their later work: Sheep and Goodbye Cruel World both feature this same two note bassline), it really does have the required dreamy, haunting effect. The man's a genius.
Now forgotten film, but VERY groovy in my teens was, "Zabriskie Point". Plot to complicated to summarise but, at the end, a huge, beautiful, steel & glass house, built on a hill in the desert, explodes in extreme slow motion -- all to this track. An incredible and quite moving experience!
In my opinion, this is the best version/performance of "Careful". My favorite part is the well executed crescendo that begins at around 2:45, which completely explodes into an all-out jam at 3:24. Notice how everyone is really at the top of his game in this video: Dave's (obvious) mastery of the guitar, Rick adding incredible keyboards, Nick tearing up the drums, and Roger's bass. Roger, in particular, adds a very prominent bass contribution to this song, I think.
What i especially love about pink floyd is its all genuine music no copy's or phoney's here all original material for you to get lost in and all thanks to Roger Keith Barrett for giving the band a base to start on a man's journey through the infinite of his mind, David gilmour is probably the only man on earth that can make a guitar literally sing, Richard Wright with his mind-blowing ability to write a song 🎵co founder Roger Waters again amazing song writer and bass player and not forgetting Nicholas Berkeley Mason the original founding member of pink floyd Bob Klose had a small part in the early days before they became pink floyd also ✌️
To the PF fans who only listen to DSOTM,WYWH...and possibly the wall, you simply have to listen to their back catalogue pre DSOTM you will be stunned and realise what you've been missing,it's like a musical jigsaw puzzle that gets better and experiences the band constantly evolving both lyrically and musically it's an epic learning curve that will leave you breathless and puffing and panting and drooling for more ...it's that ... simple!!!!!
"Careful with That Axe, Eugene" is featured in the 2010 film Mr. Nice. "Careful with That Axe Eugene" is used in the first episode of Jacob Bronowski's The Ascent of Man. "Careful with That Axe Eugene" is referenced in the Dream Theater song "Octavarium".
+Funkmentality Underrated? He's frickin' legendary. His basslines for "Money" and "Another Brick In The Wall" are both frequently on best basslines of all time lists
I feel like he left the band because he wasn't allowed to express himself on the bass later on. I heard Gilmour started writing the basslines for him, like the one for Pigs (Three Different Ones)
I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes... I feel like I'm going on a train trip, seeing a succession of crazy, never-before-seen scenes from history, important, weird musics through the window as I pass.. there's so much to explore. So many places to alight and dwell in the ambiences that are on offer. This stop, in particular, is brilliant; Faith of a musician!
I heard the album Umagumma in a darkened room at a friend's house while at university in 1970. I was completely captivated by this album. Dark Side of the Moon landed in my ears not long after. I really want the present younger generation to listen to this music and understand the imagination and creativity that went into making these albums given the equipment they had at that time.
I feel like this song is about a guy name Eugene, with exceptional skills with the guitar. His rise to fame is imminent. Roger waters is singing him to be careful with the incoming fame, due to his skills with his 'axe'. People will begin to listen to everything he says, offer him drugs, etc. Pink Floyd was a band that tried to stay away from the spotlight as much as possible. I don't think Waters was even on TV in North America until the 2000s.
OTRO PINCHE PEDO!!
...And the rest is Music History. But, At The Time, people were very threatened by this disturbing musical change. If you brought Ummagumma to Music Class, expect trouble from teachers, students, parents, everyone. No JOKE.
i have a vhs tape of this version and a dvd format of the directors cut version and i have to say the original is the best.all the space images on directors just dont fit in right.the roman art sequences are so great.ive always thought of it as very artistic, well done cinematography .
This will always be my favorite Floyd song. There's a certain darkness and mysticism about it. Best band hands down...
Timeless
ummaguma best version
Favorite song, favorite version.
This right here is the best version of Axe, hands down or off....
@@nektarpanagiotis6707 Zabriskie point is best
In my twenties I used to watch "Live at Pompeii" in my room with lights off, laying on my bed and travelling...best music movie ever.
Remember that, I did the same. Best days of my live. Still 60 now. I do the same yet
Those days !
There's something so cathartic about this performance. The way all of their instruments blend together, absolutely mind-blowing. Pink Floyd was such a solid live band.

Nunca es tarde...
Me too. And i though P.U.L.S.E. was a masterpiece. Never saw it again after that
Rick's otherworldly keyboard fills are what really make this song.
When I watch all the Pompeii videos, I feel like I found the fountain of life and I cannot stop drinking and bathing in it. So fucking amazing! 💜
The way you should feel listening to these blokes.
Exactly the same feeling for me
The Fountain of Youth ?
Let me join you in that Whirlpool ;-)
Fucking Amazing it is....
So true Perla
When you have the whole of RUclips and this is where you land and decide to stay for a while, salute me amigo!!,
Salute you mate... if I batted the other way I blow ya dick better than any man, woman or beast... OH SORRY WOMEN ARE BEASTS😂👍
Nick Mason absolutely on fire with the drums.
+MechaMonk Seriously though, he's always been known as a sub-par drummer, but that's when you're comparing "technical" and flashy skills. As far as how he can carry a beat to match the band's playing, he's phenomenal, and always has been, and this is a PERFECT example of it
+ClonicTonic I agree
I find is earlier work including this to be his best.. He shreds the entire Pompeii movie.
+MechaMonk yesssss
+Matthew Radke he definitely had the most freedom in their earlier work, as Roger Waters started to take over, Mason faded a bit. Still great albums though
At least 90% of the Floyd’s other-worldliness comes from Mr Wright. Thank you Sir, for taking us on trips far away from life on this planet.
gives me chills when Roger screams
Waters' bass line really drives this song. So cool
For such a simple two note line with the odd flourish here and there (as reprised in some of their later work: Sheep and Goodbye Cruel World both feature this same two note bassline), it really does have the required dreamy, haunting effect. The man's a genius.
Heavy can influence or backwards idk

Many years watching this live performance, every time the genius and talent left me totally in awe. Especially when I was really stoned on acid

This is the true stairway to heaven.
Floyd's music is truly timeless and irreplaceable, end of story
A perfect example of how they sound when they work together
This and Echoes was the soundtrack to my mis-spent youth.
I tried making a cover for this.
Five minutes later, I came to the realization that I need to be a superhuman to recreate something like this.
My favorite song for all eternity
Nick mason's drums on this are INSANE
also his shirt!
Being a huge fan for many years it took a while to appreciate this song. Now it's one of my favorites. This the best of the Floyd thru and thru.
The intro is so calm, just too beautiful !

This whole DVD was my childhood!
:D
No Way! You Got The Best Childhood Ever!!!

EPIC performance fans unforgettable indeed
I love watching this and watching Nick and Roger communicating with each other, as the rhythm section.
Wright's sort of egyptian intro is what makes this song great
The best one in the history of PF. I love it very much.
Thanks indeed.

Pinks forever fans
4:20 dat bass lick. Roger Waters is underrated as a bass player.
+Funkmentality Roger's timing is perfection. After all that's what Floyd is all about, timing.
+Funkmentality Underrated? He's frickin' legendary. His basslines for "Money" and "Another Brick In The Wall" are both frequently on best basslines of all time lists
Vin Ellis Roger's bass playing in the early shows is amazing. Check out his playing in The Embryo 1971.
I feel like he left the band because he wasn't allowed to express himself on the bass later on. I heard Gilmour started writing the basslines for him, like the one for Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Funkmentality he’s not the best but he certainly has some incredible moments
perhaps the definitive psychedelic track
The best performance of this track.
What a Great Song, my favourite era of Pink Floyd
I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes... Escuchar Estas Musicas Llegas Al Cielo
They're really not normal, but you're looking for the love that makes you feel good, w pink floyd
Love Roger screams. This track is super awesome.

If Munch's Scream were a song, it would be this one.
Fantastic comment.Good of you to put the two masterpieces together.
This song popped up on my feed. But I love that 🎶
Capolavoro psichedelico!!
All 4 performers were truly on song with this performance. In particular Mason's drumming is superb throughout the Pompeii gig.
this track gives me shivers
The worlds best music group of all the times in another great brain traveling!!!
Stylianos,Athens-HELLAS!
Eugene, a dozen were not careful with the axe!

I’ve always thought of it as the perfect soundtrack to te moment before the catastrophe in Pompei in 70 bc
When this came out u knew the Floyd was. Gonna be a force to reckon with for a long time 🇺🇸💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥🚬
luis V. ahuevo bro

Pink Floyd la storia.....
...And the rest is Music History. But, At The Time, people were very threatened by this disturbing musical change. If you brought Ummagumma to Music Class, expect trouble from teachers, students, parents, everyone. No JOKE.
Absolutely ... Great!
Listening to this song is like entering another dimension
The more you listen the better the rest doesn't matter
A reasonably sick performance.
