Awesome video Tim. I love that you showed both methodologies. I’m doing my first project with an integral baseboard next week and we’ve been debating the merits of both, plus whether to preflake the easycove. This was really helpful to see everything play out. Thanks for all you do.
The videos are well done! Thank you Tim. I would still like to see some text in the vide describing each step. This could always be done to the existing videos you have already created.
Hey didn’t know you could apply epoxy flake over plywood. Interesting. I look forward to seeing the video where you talk about prepping epoxy flake for wood substrates 👌🏼
Cool. We’ve only done that a handful of times. It’s pretty expensive because you usually have to add a layer of plywood and then flood the floor with flexible epoxy.
Is it possible to use thermoplastic rubber wall cove base? It's much cheaper and comes in a 120ft roll. I believe it's rubber/vinyl. I'm just not sure if epoxy would bond to the material.
Prefab has its place. It is expensive, but you just have to weigh that against time savings. Prefab saves you a trip to the job site because you can install the cove and coat the floor in the same day. If you have multiple projects near each other then it makes sense to install cove mortar instead of prefab....because you can just go work on the other job when you are done. But if you are driving 1-2 hours each way to a job, then prefab is worth every penny because of all of the time/labor savings.
I do this for a living, I’ve actually never seen that sand product used for the verticals, we just hand grand the floors to bare concrete. But regardless , looks very nice 👌
How does the sealer prevent the paint chips from peeling off if they are not covered by another complete layer of resin that the epoxy Rust spork sealer doesn’t do?
I am putting this same type floor down in our office next week but had a question about the polyaspartic top coat. Can the clear top coat be regular rust-oleum epoxy from Home Depot or does it need to be polyaspartic? This will be a very high traffic area. I have not found a local place to buy polyaspartic. So if it needs to be polyaspartic, where would you recommend I get it from? Thanks a million for the super helpful video.
I wouldn't use the epoxy from HD or Lowes. Those products are water-based epoxy, and they just don't hold up as well (or look as good) as a high solids epoxy or polyaspartic. DM me on Instagram or Twitter (@TimDCVA) and I can try to help you find something you can use locally. Thanks for watching! Glad the video helped. 👍🏻
We always prefer to remove any coatings and recoat the floor. If the budget doesn’t allow for that and the old epoxy is in good shape, it is possible to re-coat it.
I don’t think the brand matters as much as the service. You need to be able to get it repaired without shipping it. I have a lavina 21-x on our van for residential garages. It’s a 110v machine that’s great for prep. I think it’s one of the cheapest grinders that they make. It’s not heavy enough to remove coatings though.
You can use any epoxy and clean sand. Usually about 2 quarts of liquid to about 8 quarts of sand will do the trick... If you like it dryer just add more sand to it, just harder to seal it up the next day
Hi Tim, I'm Doug, owner of SpeedCove, Inc. the original inventor/marketer of Preformed Covebase Systems from back in 1999. Great video and explanation, THX for the positive promotion of the pre-formed cove base idea. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help on any projects.
Hi Doug. Thanks for the encouragement. Feel free to email me more info about your stuff. (My address is in the description of the video...YT won’t let me type it here)

The baseboard trick was pretty cool and it looked good with the floor!!
Thanks! We were really happy with how it turned out. 🙌🏼
I really appreciate the beauty this adds

Ill try to work on that this winter when things slow down. Thanks for the suggestion.

TimDCVA no fiberglass mesh?
ConcreteBVI nope.
TimDCVA the seams from the plywood don’t show in the epoxy after some time ?
No they don’t. There isn’t much movement at the seams because the plywood has been doubled and the seams have been overlapped.
I am also interested in the plywood installation. Sad there is more cost involved.
Wow great work!!
What is your preferred method for doing concrete stem walls of a garage? Before you do the floor or during the floor coating?
Before.
@@TimDCVA I did my first job this past week, and I now know why you prefer before 😂 doing after is terrible
Excellent work,
Thank you! 🙏🏻😊
Great job✌
Thanks! 🙌🏼
Great video. For polyaspartic top coat .do you recommend a 3 eights sleeve or half inch
Thanks Michael!
I’m not sure what you mean… are you talking about putting grit in the top coat?
i watch this video i was happy and its beautiful hoping my house will be like this
Thanks!

I don’t think it would look as good as the pre-cast or cast in place cove.
For the primer coat on the wooden subfloors, did you just roll on a thin layer of the same epoxy as that of the base coat?
You feel the prefab cove base is worth the extra expense? It's pretty expensive but does make it easier

Looks like I shd be able to pour an epoxy floor straight onto old stickdown vinyl tiles? What you think??
I don’t think I would try that. I would be worried about the tiles not being bonded to the floor well enough.
@@TimDCVA they been there for decades. They ain't goin nowhere...
Haha. 👍🏻

Have you ever sanded the floor after broadcasting vinyl chips or between a second poly top coat?
Tim, whose polyaspartic do you use?
Can this be used instead of vinyl flooring in my bathroom and kitchen at home ?
Would this be suitable flooring for a sauna? Thanks!
Video on wooden floors please

What material did you used to fabricate the base floor
We used Americote pre-fab base and General Polymers Cove Resin.
Who is the Mfg of precast coves?
Americote
What kind of seal do you put on top
Polyaspartic urethane.
So can an old epoxy floor be refinished?

Sure it wasn’t Paul Johnson?
Walking on a wet flake floor isn’t a good idea. One slip or wrong step and grinding back down to start you go.
That's a lot of chips lol
