Are Wal-Mart Bikes diamonds in the rough or junk?

As bike prices fall, I decided to take the budget bike out of storage and go over discussing if its still worth it to buy a budget bike like this Mongoose Ledge X1. While also going over things that just hold this bike back.

I completely agree. If you’re just going to and from work on well maintained pavement, the Wally World bikes work well enough. But taking that bike shaped object out on the trail is another ballgame. They even put stickers on them telling you not to!

I don't own a full suspension bike, and I still agree with you. Even the low end of a reputable brand is better then the Walmart bikes. I can say this because I bought one, and then proceeded to upgrade everything. I still have that bike but now have a name brand bike as my main ride.

It just puts you at ease when you have something purpose built, by people who do lengthy R&D into a product. Then back it up with a reliable warranty.

Before the great sales of 2023, I would agree that you can get a lot done with a walmart bike. some of these newer bikes sales are sooo good

the way I gauge the quality of a bike is weight a high end bike tends weigh considerably less weight means alot

Thats one way to look at it. I know the mongoose has 4 pounds over my Marin Hawk Hill
