I don't think he was horrifically underrated. He was widely admired by many in the electronic music genre. Do you mean he wasn't in the top 40 pop charts? Listen to his music some more. You'll agree they weren't commercial fast-food songs for the masses. They don't deserve it.
If you just mean "underrated" in the modern, internet definition: "I like this very much" - we're on the same page. Check out "Dreams and Nightmares" for some of his earlier stuff.

@@twoofuswearingraincoats34 It's neat that you Googled and found his real name, but Nash the Slash actually preferred to keep it a secret. He did a damned good job of it pre-internet. He was incredible live and would never let anyone uninvolved with the show see him out of bandages.

Is there any sweeter sound than Nash's chiming electric mandolin being played through that synchro-slapback delay? God, he was good. Love the man.

I only became aware of Nash The Slash back in 1980 through Gary Numan, who has since described him as the best support act he ever had. Apparently, Numan already had a support in place for his tour, but after seeing Nash perform somewhere, he dropped them and used him for the rest of the tour. He played some great violin on Numan's "Dance" album in 1981 and was a special guest on Numan's farewell concerts in the same year. I remember Numan saying in an interview once that he asked Nash why he used the bandages for his image and was told that it was because he was never going to get anywhere with his own looks, which Numan described as being rather jolly. He was a brilliant musician and deserves far more recognition than he got. I don't know if it's true or not, but I read somewhere that he retired from the music business because he'd pretty much had enough of it. R.I.P. Nash and thank you.

I saw him live twice in Toronto. Once at a small club and once at a movie theatre where he did all the music live for the silent movie "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". He met with my friend and I after the club gig and chatted with us for a bit, sans bandages. lol. A very friendly person and a musical genius. A true original artist who will never be surpassed.

Saw Nash one and a half times. Lol First gig was through tix I won from Q107. Awesome show. Got hammered with my bud. Second show was out in Mississauga, we were right in front of stage. He fires everything up, vibrations are literally pushing my beer bottle across the table. About 45 seconds in he pops every breaker in the place. Whole club is dark, cash registers go down. He leaves the stage, goes outside to compose himself. Takes about 10 minutes to get the bar back online. He comes back onstage, starts again, not even 30 seconds at power cuts out again. He yells 'The show is over!' and walks out. Bar had to refund everyone's cover charge and deal with about 200 pissed off fans.

Nash was part of an incredible Canadian group called FM. This song can be seen played live as early as 76! If you listen to the studio version on 1979's Black Noise (sung by bassist / keyboardist Camerion Hawkins) you'll see that compared to the music of that time it was way ahead.
Nash started wearing the bandages during the 3 Mile Island Nuclear disaster.

A good but selfish musician, he favored experimental music. He quit FM after their Direct To Disc & Black Noise albums. He said adding a drummer (Martin Deller) made the band sound too commercial for his taste. Honestly using synths adds no drive to music sadly. The costume he wore to add mystique to his image was a joke. Had his chance at fame but blew it. Ben Mink replaced him for the rest of FM’s career. Ben was finally replaced by Claudio Vena for their final Nearfest ‘06 performance.
