  • A Warbird Mistress Short!
    Taken from the video, "Luftwaffe at Sea, Ep. 2: Prelude to War," the second of a five-part (plus extras!) series on the maritime undertakings of the Luftwaffe and the machines that soared over the waves. The complete episode can be found here: • The Luftwaffe at Sea: ...
    The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor was the scourge of the North Atlantic, although she was also a premier passenger liner of the pre-war days. Not truly designed for combat, she was incredibly adaptable to the duties of maritime patrol as she joined the Kriegsmarine in spotting and coordinating some of the deadliest convoy attacks in military history. Check out the other episodes for examples of her in action after hearing all about the machine herself in this short!

    Great video I have actually touched the remains of condor and it's BMW 323 engines in Ireland a local museum no longer displayed. Claire how about a video series on the Baltic airforces
    Of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia
    Pre world war 2
    Got hold of the insignia series books from all 3 airforces amazing stuff
    Seeing world war 1 aircraft still in service in 1940.
    Take care Claire
    Tally ho!

      Those are great forces to cover! I have a book on the Estonian Air Force, but on the other two I admit ignorance when it comes to hardware, logistics, administration, &c. I don't speak or read any of those languages, either, so there's that. I did an outline months and months ago that included the fledgling air forces of those nations in 1918 and 1919 as part of a video on Freikorps air assets, but life was absolutely in the air at the time. Have to maybe revisit it!

    the loss of 365, 000 tons of shipping ! ouch that must have hurt the supply chain
    I wonder how the Ju-90 would have fared in the anti-shipping role or I guess the Ju-89 was the military variety as I understand they could carry about the same heavy loads

  • @thhseeking
    @thhseeking Год назад

    I've read and seen photos, that they had a nasty habit of breaking their backs on landing. And apparently sometimes in mid-air. I wonder if that's not related to the massive fuel tanks in the fuselage, putting stress on the structure that it was never designed for?

    • @TheWarbirdMistress
      @TheWarbirdMistress  Год назад +1

      Very well could be. Fuel weighs a lot more than passengers, after all.

      @@TheWarbirdMistress That's OK :) I'm thinking that the Ju290 might have been a better aircraft. But it was never built in sufficient numbers.

    devoting half of screen to presenter face doesn't make sense for this kind of video. People tune in to to look at airplanes, not to look at the presenter. Other similar channels that are more succesful don't show any face at all.

      Point taken. This is a short taken from a larger video that is formatted that way, and many of my fans ask that I do more videos in this format. It takes a lot more work, to be honest, but I was responding to others. I'm glad to hear an honest opinion. Thank you!
