Really good review. I've been using Antaeus Pour Homme for about 20 years. It's not been easy to find in the United States, except by mail at an inflated price. A trip to Mexico often provides a less expensive avenue. I'm working off of approximately a 2007 bottle, and this is my favorite fragrance of all time. I always get complimented on this fragrance. It's manly yet complex. It's lasting but not over-powering. I do not use a spray version but dab on in a few spots from a 6.8oz / 200mL Eau de Toilette bottle that was purchased as a gift for me for about $60, which was a a great price in the mid-2000s. After trying this, you'll not go back to your standard scent. The women in my life love it, and, they tell me they don't smell it anywhere else because it's not a common scent.
I just came upon your review , I'm 26 and antaeus quickly grew on me so much that now I really love it ,really an amazing fragrance younger people need to check this one out !
I just got my first bottle ever. I am 56 years old and I have worn nothing but Polo green and Grey Flannel most of my life. Halston and Stetson when money was tight. I remember Chanel Antaeus back in the day but couldn't really afford it. it was somewhat higher than Polo. Polo being about $30 bucks back in 1981. I love the way Antaeus smells on my skin! It is very potent so about three sprays does the trick for me. I plan on buying it from now on and adding it to my arsenal. If anyone is planning on buying some. Nordstroms is the best place to order it from. It is $95 for 3.3 oz and they send you a ton of free cologne samples, beard oils and other stuff. You also get to pick 3 samples. I have always loved the cologne from my roaring 20's and don't like the cotton candy/jolly rancher smell of today's cologne. Anyway this is good stuff!!
One thing I’ve noticed about Antaeus (current formulation) is how it interacts with my body chemistry more than any other fragrance I wear. I can spray this in the morning and by midday I feel it has mellowed down to a pleasant skin scent but if I go to the gym and work up a sweat it comes roaring out of its cage again. With a bit of body heat it smells incredible.
Thanks for picking this very interesting perfume for your review. I don’t know about the others but me personally starting to get tired of old same parfum list video bloggers keep reviewing. Nowadays as soon as I hear them talking about Sauvage, Profumo, Chanel extreme, or bloody Invictus I immediately switch the channel, if you know what I mean ) I’m definitely going to give a try to Anteous . Thanks again.
The vintage version is right. New version after a hour AWOL. I had a formula from 2000- 01 one spray was projecting all day, even in the warmer seasons.
This Parfum simply makes me travel to a different dimension...for some reason I can't wear it for day use. Fell in love with it in 1985 after smell it on a GIRL back on North Africa. I since had a bottle at home.
I have never sampled this one, after watching your review Pep, I am heading over to the shops tomorrow to have a sniff :). Thanks for the great review mate.
A few months ago I bought this Antaeus blind. But with all the rave reviews I was going to take a chance. Today Tuesday 30 April, i noticed it was on special offer, so, I bought a second bottle. This is now my ultimate favourite. I liked before this BdC EDP. But EDP move over Antaeus is now King❤
I can see why its opening would not be challenging to you or I, but tell that to the average twenty year old who grew up smelling One Million, Invictus, Bleu de Chanel, and Sauvage. Good work on this review. I definitely agree with you about the rose. I believe this fragrance is more feminine than I think it's given credit for.
I ordered 2 bottles of Antaeus and its arrived yesterday, I got 0601 batch code 2016 bottle. When I sprayed it was damn loud, room filler but after sometime it's gone, no sillage no projection. Am I not feeling fragrance around me or is it weak? I'm writing this comment and sniffing my tshirt... it's there but I think it lost projection and sillage.
When I first smelled Antaeus I was too young to appreciate it. You convinced me to give it another try. I had my girlfriend with me and - I kid you not - her knees buckled when she smelled it on me. Shut up and take my money.
Love that fragrance. It's quite commanding. Very bright. I think it is a great classic. I never noticed the rose scent until you mentioned it! Thanks, Pep. Oh and could you recommend another chipre fragrance that might be similar? Thanks again.
I am interested int Bois D'Argent so I will give it a try. I really want to get a handle on Chipre as a note. I've heard so much about it. Thanks again!
Bernie777 think of Chypre as a style rather than a note. There are a lot of variations within the style, this might be useful www.fragrantica.com/groups/woody+chypre.html
After reading up on it, I see what you mean. It is like a palette of particular notes that can used to produce a style of scent rather than a specific note, as such. Thanks again, Pep.
Yes!!! You answered my question!!! Thank you for a well descriptive review!!!! And alot of older women wear stuff that smells like oscar de la renta pour loui. Women love mens fragrances more than they like their own 😂
Amazing stuff ,bought myself a bottle as a blind buy as a xmas present ...totally not what I expected though everyone made out it was a heavy mans scent like kouros and yes its very manly but there is something else going on I find it a lot fruitier than I thought, i can get the kouros vibe but its very fleeting there one minute gone the next ,then its lemony then its like rich talcum powder, it’s exquisite and keeps changing it’s way more modern smelling than I expected as well I find as it dries down it’s like bleu de Chanel on steroids It’s amazing makes my run of the mill invictus, spicebomb, stuff smell cheap ,this is my new benchmark
I like Antaeus Pour Homme a lot more than Egoiste. It’s a very masculine but also pleasing sexy scent. Egoiste is cinnamon like, which isn’t that different from other spicy scents. Antaeus is more unique.
Was my signature fragrance and used to get many compliments all the time. I may break down and get the newest formula and I hope it has that same distinctive smell. Wow, I forgot about Oscar de la renta cologne from the 80’s until you brought it up. I wonder what ever happened to my bottle from the 80’s and it was 85% still full when I last remembered using it in the 90’s.
do you know much about chanels from this period up to the 90s? there is a lemon in this that ive had before in something it instantly took me back but it was stronger,it was when i remember buying some expensive stuff around 1994 im convinced it was chanel and it was amazing like classy lemon sherberts and i kept getting a whiff of it in antaeus but i remember it being way more prominent and i cant for the life of me remember what it was ,i do remember buying egoiste but i dont think that has lemon ....whatever it was to this day its still the nicest fragrance ive ever smelt like warm comforting lemon sherberts (i know that sounds ridiculous but its the mental picture i get )
@@TheScentinel crazy how were all different ,the lemon to me at least early on is very prominent ,it comes and goes but if there isnt lemon in the profile i would be amazed and im more amazed you dont smell it .......what a strange but wonderful hobby how we all get something different from the same thing ....the amount of reviews i see mentioning kouros and thats so misleading to my nose ,its maybe 5% kouros and that drifts away to be replaced by something else

Currently I'm using Terre d'Hermes in summer high heat outdoor and it really working nice but I want 1 more strong perfume to replace hermes for few occasions. Suggest me please
@@TheScentinel thanks :) well I haven't yet tested them at the same time... I just feel like they have a similar vibe. I sprayed Kouros on paper while my girlfriend had Antaeus on her arm :D the rose was amazing on her skin... kind of hope that it would be still noticeable on mine. We'll test Yatagan together as well LOL
They have a similar clean/dirty vibe but the actual notes are quite different. I find Kouros (current formulation) to be much fresher whereas Antaeus is darker and more refined. Kouros is in many ways a far more challenging and risky fragrance but at the same time I think it’s something you can pull off outside on a warm summer’s day whereas I imagine Antaeus would be cloying in the high heat.
It's beast mode. Alpha Lewis Collins in who dares wins immediately seducing the woman at night with the line 'where do you live because I'm going to take you to bed' kind of cologne.
Antaeus is arguably the most masculine fragrance ever created. I’ve never smelled another men’s fragrance that has the darkness, boldness and sophistication like Antaeus has. The dry down is simply magnificent. However, it’s not a fragrance for young guys. Adolescent boys who go out with friends? No. Early 20 year-olds who go clubbing? No. It’s suits men best in their mid 30s and up, men who are confident and unabashed about men’s masculinity. There are no citrusy or light notes in Antaeus that you smell in younger scents like Cool Water.
I'm sorry but Antaeus isn't Antaeus anymore. You are promoting a totally different scent than the original Chanel Antaeus. This shouldn't be named Antaeus anymore no way. I have 2 bottles one from 1989 and one from 1994. Please do not buy this fragrance thinking it smells like the original formula. I smelled the batch from 2012 and it's nothing like the fragrance i have. By the way for your viewers the same goes for Santos by Cartier. The new formulation is actually terrible.
I am promoting the current Antaeus, which happens to be called Antaeus. I have no experience with vintage versions and am sure that it's as good as you say, but i like the version i have and i will recommend to anyone to try it. I don't appreciate the implication that i am somehow being misleading.
@@TheScentinel I had it back in 88 and have a bottle now. It's still a great cold season cologne and strong. Two squirts each side of neck and let it settle half hour before leaving home in morning. It will still be pumping out before bedtime. It's Liam Gallagher in concert.
You are right the first reformulation with silver spryer was no good, but the recent bottles (2015 onwards) with black spryer is very close to the original formulation. However, the original was resinous. By the way, deo-stick still have oakmoss in it which makes it even closer to the original formula.
