    Thats amazing that you were able to rely on just 64go and your SD card for a year. This model is also probably the best deal since it look quite easy to upgrade the internal ssd by yourself if needed. Emulation on this device could be also a big deal and just make your beloved vita and switch potentially useless.

    I like the fact that if you wanted to, you could install windows and run natively.
    I may wanna pick one of these up for Christmas, I know where about seven months out but still.
    I’ve always appreciated. Steam for how often a lot of top tier games, go on sale and a lot quicker than if you have the console build.
    I guess I just really wanna sit and play, Jedi fallen order and Jedi Survivor, recently got a bunch of Star Wars games as part of the May 4 sale.

    Regarding the issue/fear of Steam Deck not booting up, I heard that this could happen because of no/lack of storage in the main Deck SSD, especially since u only have 64GB.
    One thing to note about the Steam Deck is, it downloads precompiled shaders for every game you install, to the SSD regardless of where you install the game eg. SD card.
    What I did to my partner's 64GB Steam Deck was use a tool in CryoUtilities, specifically the "Sync Game Data" section, to move the precompiled shaders to the SD card so that they don't take up space in the main SSD. There's a warning saying that this might affect performance, but from my experience, there's no performance hit or it's negligible. The storage space saved from doing this though could be huge, especially if you have a lot of games installed. So if you haven't done this already, you could try this out.
    Since you're already using CryoUtilities already at that point, I'd also recommend running other tools it provides one by one and when it comes to the "Swap Fix" tool it offers, you can also use that but don't proceed with the recommended 16GB swap file it recommends, but rather a smaller swap file would be sufficient eg. 4GB.
    Addressing other points in the vid:
    - If you have a problem with a game, and you need the latest improvements/fixes that *might* allow you to play the game, you can just stay on Stable and don't need to move to Preview. what you can (and recommended) to do instead is to "force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" for the game and set it to Proton Experimental. That should force the game to use whatever's the latest experimental game-related fixes Valve is developing, without actually moving away from the Stable version of SteamOS.
    - Startup movies has been available in the Stable version for some time now, they pushed that in very soon after they announced it.
    Thanks for the awesome vid!

      @@BobDevV it is true that they leave these "junk" files. I believe you can delete them from the game's details page - from memory, I think it's the game's "Settings (Cog icon) > Developer > Delete Proton Data" or something like that, tho idk how reliable it is and idk if it requires you to enable Developer mode on the Steam Deck. what I do know is CryoUtilities has a feature to locate these junk files left by uninstalled games and delete them, and it does work perfectly.

    Just picked up a refurbished 64 GB from Gamestop for $250 I was worried about having to replace the internal SSD but this video made me hold off!

  • @ArchStanton88
    @ArchStanton88 Год назад +10

    The only worrying thing about 64gb is the fact that all the shader cache is downloaded in the ssd and that fills up quickly and I see you only have 4gb available in your ssd storage do to all the shaders from games. The best way is to upgrade the ssd to 1tb, it’s very cheap and easy to do yourself.

I would hear the little jingle after pressing power and nothing would happen. Currently I have a 1TB SSD as well as a 1TB MicroSD card in the system and it was happening before I updated the SSD as well as after I updated the SSD. This doesn't seem to happen to often, maybe 7-10 times over the past 10 months, but when it does it make me nervous. Once the Steamdeck is on and running I don't have really any issues, occasionally there is issues while I play MCC but thats the only game that gives me trouble.

      The answer is that you only install 1 modern aaa games most games compatibility data doesn't affect performance much so you can move them to sd card and system link them to the orignal location it's slightly inconvenient but I don't think it's a big deal. If the game you are planning to keep it for a long time and it's comp data are more than 1 gb (fifa 22 for example) I recommend to move it to sd card and make sure that there's no hit in performance.

      i would 100% try and figure this out. cause if its not a battery issue then its a hardware issue and it should be under warranty. i would contact steam if this happens often

    i have one and it is exactly like every other steam deck runs games exactly like the others just a smaller storage. the steam deck is good for emulation and older games but anything over the year 2019 it wont run the best the graphics will not be the best and neither will performance. you can run jnewer games but they donjt run amazing they do run on the steam deck but not the best. think of the steam deck as a xbox one in your hands with the ability to be a pc. it will run the games the same. you should save your money for the asus ally thats coming out because you are not stuck on steam. better screen and better power and runs games better with the better chip set.
    you can really only play steam games on the steam deck unless you emulate and even then any games you have onh your pc ya cant play if they are not oin steam and a lot of the games wont run as they dont work on the steam deck. price and loving handhelds is the oly reason you would buy one

      you can easily buy a micro sd card to expand the storage.

    • @AlteredCarbons
      @AlteredCarbons Год назад +1

      ok here, for 399 you get 1x64 gb. 30gb of that is OS so you got 30gb left. not any major titles will be that small. but here is the best part. 64gb is so cheap that you can buy a 1tb ssd 2230 m2 and they are just getting cheaper right now. i paid 150$ for my 1tb and now the 2tb versions are the same price while the 1tb's are getting much cheaper. Already you have doubled the space of the 700$ 512hb deck AAAAAND you still have a micro sd slot for your roms and guess what... for 40$ on amazon can get you a 512gb micro SD from samsung. so now you have anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5TB of space. and let me tell you. i have 2tb total 1/1 ssd/sd and its been more then enough to install ALL of my library i want to play plus 20+ inde titles i bought PLUS all the roms i think ill play... and my sd card is full of roms and the ssd is all my steam games. i still have 300-400gb of room left for steam games... so for less then 700$ i have gained so much space compared to just 512gb deck that i wont be worrying about space EVER... and on top of that... the SD cards are hot swap-able meaning if i want to have more then 1 sd card i can pull the full out and put a fresh one in... meaning my storage is ENDLESS. another thing is that the decks ssd read times are the same i think from SSD to SD but write times are better on the SSD like it should but you wont be writing much data

      @@AlteredCarbons Gadd damn. I wasn't expecting a reply like this but I appreciate it!! Very detailed info. I only left the first comment because I thought it at least came with 200gb standard and not 64. 64 is so little. But glad that there 1tb sd storage! I plan on getting one in the future so now I know what I'll get thanks!

      Well why would he need to buy 200gb or 500 gb of internal memory from a steam deck if he can just buy a 521 gb or 1tb memory card to save all his games there ? It's way more cheaper
