One of the neighbours was handing out flowers to women in our part of the building today. I received one too. It was a very nice gesture 😊 Sometimes policemen stop the cars and give flowers to female drivers on this day. Employers get flowers for their female employees, students - for their teachers and so on. I hope this nice tradition remains in our culture

Here in Alaska, no one has heard of International Womens Day with the exception of the expat Russians living here like my wife. She was very disappointed in that you did not show the flowers you bought for your wife.
The annual celebration of International Women's Day was initiated by the Second International Conference of Socialists, held in Copenhagen in 1910. Clara Zetkin suggested celebrating this day. One of the goals was the struggle for universal suffrage for women. Soviet Russia, and later the USSR, were the first states in the world to legislatively and officially declare equality of rights between men and women in 1917. Therefore, this holiday has taken root in our country.

I've never seen anyone in Australia receive flowers for International Women's Day. I like the idea, though. My nephew is actually a manager at a flower wholesaler in Sydney. I know their busiest days are Valentine's Day and then Mother's Day. It's interesting to see so many people with such large beautiful bouquets. They cost a fortune in Australia. Right, in Russia, Valentines Day isn't really celebrated at all. It would really be interesting to go to this place next week to compare how the amount of people there differs.
@@TravellingwithRussell There is a similar holiday in Russia, but in some ways it is probably better. Let it be still young, but it is not only about the love of young couples, but about family love, the strength of marriage bonds.🤔 Family, Love and Fidelity Day is a fairly young Russian holiday dedicated to the memorial day of Saints Peter and his wife Fevronia, who are considered the patrons of marriage in the Russian Orthodox Church. Family Day began to be celebrated in Murom, where the relics of saints are kept, in the 1990s, and in 2008 it was first celebrated outside the city. When is the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity celebrated The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is celebrated annually on July 8 and is timed to coincide with the memorial day of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, patrons of marriage in Orthodoxy. The date of the holiday is fixed and does not change from year to year. In 2023, the holiday falls on a Saturday. In Russia, the holiday began to be celebrated in 2008 and was considered a national celebration. However, on June 28, 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the holiday became official. The history of the holiday is the Day of Family, Love and fidelity In the 90s, the residents of Murom restored the long-standing tradition of veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia. They were contacted when problems arose in their family or personal life. At the beginning of the noughties, the City Day was combined with the celebration of Family Values Day. 2008 was the Year of the Family. It was then that the residents of Murom took the initiative to make the local celebration nationwide. Representatives of the State Duma and the Federation Council approved this idea, and it was also supported by the Interreligious Council of Russia. On March 26, 2008, the All-Russian Day of Marital Love and Family Happiness was established as part of a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy. On June 28, 2022, Putin signed a decree granting the holiday official status. The purpose of this event is to preserve the traditions of family values and spiritual and moral education of children and youth. The Legend of Peter and Fevronia One day Prince Peter fell ill with leprosy, and no one could cure him. Then the future ruler of Murom had a dream that a peasant woman Fevronia lived in the village of Laskovo in the Ryazan province, who could help him. Peter found the girl and asked her to heal him. She agreed, but refused the money offered. Instead, Fevronia offered to marry her as a reward. The prince gave his word that he would do so, but did not keep it. And then the disease returned and struck the man with even greater force. Peter sent messengers to the girl, she began to treat the prince again, no matter what, she did not give up and healed Peter again. Then he married her in gratitude, as promised. However, the people did not accept the commoner, and the boyars plotted. As a result, Peter was faced with a choice - his spouse or the princely throne. He made a choice in favor of his wife. And the couple left Murom. There were many difficulties and trials ahead of the lovers, but they coped. Soon the Murom boyars asked the princely couple to return, because they could not maintain order in the city. So Peter and Fevronia lived soul to soul until their temples turned gray. When they grew old, they became monks and died on the same day - July 8, 1228. The saints were canonized in 1547. The Russian Orthodox Church annually celebrates Peter and Fevronia's Memorial Day on July 8. Family Day Traditions The relics of Peter and Fevronia rest in the convent of Murom in the Vladimir region. Pilgrims come to this place and ask for love and for finding a couple, for happiness in marriage and solving family problems. It has become a good tradition to propose to your beloved on this day and register a marriage. In addition, it is customary to give white daisies to your halves on this holiday, as this is the main symbol of Family Day, love and fidelity. On July 8, believers go to church, participate in the service and put candles to their saints, as well as Peter and Fevronia. Every year, in honor of the holiday, various themed events and concerts are organized throughout Russia. Also on the memorial day of Peter and Fevronia, couples who have been married for at least a quarter of a century receive awards and medals "For love and fidelity." What is allowed and what is not allowed on a holiday On the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, it is customary to address the saints about the health and well-being of the family, as well as to thank them for their help. In Russia, 14 days a year are public holidays, one of which is March 8. In addition, according to the law, there are 28 days of paid leave per year. Those who work 5 days a week additionally have Saturday and Sunday off. Thus, the average Russian has about 140 paid days off a year. In addition, the state pays for 1.5 years of maternity leave with job retention, and pays maternity capital of approximately $ 6,500 per child.
One thing I noticed soon after coming to Russia was that among among shops that remain open 24x7 are florists, pharmacies and small groceries/convenience stores in that order, with more florists open 24x7 than pharmacies and then there are some groceries too that are open 24x7. I used to wonder why so many florists are open 24x7 (are Russian men who linger out too late at night, buying flowers to defuse a potentially fuming wife/gf waiting at home? )))) )
Sometimes people like to congratulate their closest friends or relatives at 00:00 of their holiday date, especially birthday. But more common is to bring the flowers in early morning for your wife, for example, so the person could wake up and get the surprise congratulation with flowers.

In Russia, Valentine's Day is not very popular. If they hadn’t talked about this holiday on TV, no one would have remembered. This is not a Russian holiday - in Russia there is Orthodox Christianity, and St. Valentine is Catholic... There is also no Mother's Day in Russia. I simply bought a branch of mimosa from a swarthy Southerner not far from home. I chose a thicker branch and paid more. Today is not the day to be a miser) And I bought red roses for my lovely wife month ago for her birthday. And besides that, you should definitely have a gift, at least a small one, as a sign of attention
Hey Russell. I was actually at that broken down dollar store today. (Cheapest toiletries). Their new shopping carts (all but four have been stolen by questionable people) have this long pole sticking up from them. The ugliest thing. I already knew why. The girl told me it's because the pole won't fit through the door, therefore the "questionable people" can't steal the shopping carts.😂😂😂 Well, I got into a conversation about how ridiculously expensive groceries have gotten in the US and brought up your show. Had her laughing. Enjoy your wonderful supermarkets!
Wow wow. I have never seen flower market like this. In Perth Australia nothing like this. And flowers here are extremely expensive. Well done Russell 🎉
When I came to the market today at 18.00 it overcrowded. The thought crossed my mide -- what if filming it. But I was to busy to find special flowers. It was not easy today ) Then I finally come home. Open RUclips and what I see your video form Rizgsky market. OMG. Only genuine bloger could film this crowd in such special place. I'm not surprised that they asked you to leave.
The flowers are absolutely beautiful. I am sure all ladies would be delighted with a bouquet. I understand that flowers from all over the world go to the Netherlands for distribution for Europe. I saw a sign for Amsterdam a few times. A lovely video thank you
In the European part of Russia, roses are mainly from Africa. There are also Russian roses, but they are cheaper and sell out quickly. Russian roses are better - they smell, but they have short stems. Tulips are mostly Russian. In the Asian part of Russia, flowers from China are easier to bring. But the symbol of March 8 is the yellow mimosa. It is brought from the south of Russia. A convenient flower - mimosa dries well and decorates your home all year until you get tired of it 😊
It took a true geopolitical genius from Kreml to force Sweden to abandon its 200 years of neutrality. And without Putin's fatherly leadership, Finland would never have realized that it would join NATO - all the best to all the clones in the Kremlin bunker.

As a 40 yr old woman in the US, I'm afraid to say I didn't even know this was a holiday let alone an international one. I heard about it on the news but I'd say I pay more attention to the news nowadays so that's probably why I just caught on.
It is bad- you need to introduce it as a major public holiday. It is a day glorifying women as they are - and glorifying women rights too. It is a holiday of women in all socieal roles: as girls, wives, mothers, grandmothers - and as working woman too. It is a cause to remind everyone how women are important to the society and family. The holiday was created as feminist day originally but it became much more than a Feminism Day later as society had a need in a day like this, to make a holyday for all women to сelebrate and thank women for every good thing they did for family and society.
It is not celebrated in the USA. But I like the idea. Better than just Mother's Day, on this day all the women get gifts. Plus I like the idea of giving gifts to your female friends. I am female and I would do that!
Russia also has Mother's Day, it is usually celebrated in November, but to be honest, it is not super important for us. Many do not even remember this day, the most important holiday dedicated to women is still Women's Day

@@TravellingwithRussell There is a similar holiday in Russia, but in some ways it is probably better. Let it be still young, but it is not only about the love of young couples, but about family love, the strength of marriage bonds.🤔
Family, Love and Fidelity Day is a fairly young Russian holiday dedicated to the memorial day of Saints Peter and his wife Fevronia, who are considered the patrons of marriage in the Russian Orthodox Church. Family Day began to be celebrated in Murom, where the relics of saints are kept, in the 1990s, and in 2008 it was first celebrated outside the city.
When is the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity celebrated
The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is celebrated annually on July 8 and is timed to coincide with the memorial day of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, patrons of marriage in Orthodoxy.
The history of the holiday is the Day of Family, Love and fidelity
In the 90s, the residents of Murom restored the long-standing tradition of veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia.
The Legend of Peter and Fevronia
One day Prince Peter fell ill with leprosy, and no one could cure him.
Family Day Traditions
The relics of Peter and Fevronia rest in the convent of Murom in the Vladimir region.
Also on the memorial day of Peter and Fevronia, couples who have been married for at least a quarter of a century receive awards and medals "For love and fidelity."
What is allowed and what is not allowed on a holiday
On the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, it is customary to address the saints about the health and well-being of the family, as well as to thank them for their help.
On a holiday, it is worth visiting your relatives or friends. Such meetings will serve to further strengthen relations.
On July 8, you can safely get acquainted and go on dates. Believers believe that everything will work out thanks to the patronage of Peter and Fevronia.
On the day of Peter and Fevronia, it is strictly forbidden to swear, swear, conflict, arrange scenes of jealousy.

Thanks for sharing and talking about my channel. ))
Wow wow. I have never seen flower market like this. In Perth Australia nothing like this. And flowers here are extremely expensive. Well done Russell 🎉
Thanks. I am not sure Perth could handle the amount of flower sales if they started promoting Womens Day like they do in Russia.
@TravellingwithRussell never. And these kind of flowers would be extremely expensive. Russia is really doing great.
Hello, at 6 minutes this is my store)) thanks Leora)
Beautiful all those flowers,i love it🌷🌹🌼🪻💐
Hi Russell, Great video and Lanora gave a great interview. Thank you.
The flowers are absolutely beautiful. I am sure all ladies would be delighted with a bouquet. I understand that flowers from all over the world go to the Netherlands for distribution for Europe. I saw a sign for Amsterdam a few times. A lovely video thank you
no Dutch flowers in Russia
In the European part of Russia, roses are mainly from Africa. There are also Russian roses, but they are cheaper and sell out quickly. Russian roses are better - they smell, but they have short stems. Tulips are mostly Russian. In the Asian part of Russia, flowers from China are easier to bring. But the symbol of March 8 is the yellow mimosa. It is brought from the south of Russia. A convenient flower - mimosa dries well and decorates your home all year until you get tired of it 😊
@@Mike-kr7cg Nope, Dutch flowers are still common in russian shops
Keep up the good work!👍
Это что
It took a true geopolitical genius from Kreml to force Sweden to abandon its 200 years of neutrality. And without Putin's fatherly leadership, Finland would never have realized that it would join NATO - all the best to all the clones in the Kremlin bunker.
❤❤❤❤❤
Hello Lenora sending love from 🇨🇦🇨🇿
Hello to you too!
Hi Leonora, keep doing good job!
Hello! I will, tomorrow
Russell, U R LEGEND!!!
Very cool video!
I actually wish we had that in America. There is Mother’s Day and Valentines but this covers it all. I’d still Mother’s Day and Valentine’s if they still applied.
Thank you for the lovely video 🌻🌻🌻 ..even though it was completed under difficult circumstances it was good to watch
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, at the point they didn't want me to film in the second location, I was almost going to not even make the entire video.
That was amazing! Thanks Russell💐🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷💮
Glad you enjoyed it Thanks !!
Hello Lenora.
This market is beautiful.
🤝❤️😊
Fascinating tour of the flower markets! 💐 Thanks for the video👍
No worries. Glad you found it interesting.
As a 40 yr old woman in the US, I'm afraid to say I didn't even know this was a holiday let alone an international one. I heard about it on the news but I'd say I pay more attention to the news nowadays so that's probably why I just caught on.
Dayn I live in Moscow my whole life, never heard bout this place before haha. Thank you for the video mr. Russell!
International Women’s Day is mostly unheard of where I live in Canada.
Thats interesting. The same thing in Australia.
Of course . No rights for Canadian women . No wish to fight for rights . what to celebrate ?
It is bad- you need to introduce it as a major public holiday. It is a day glorifying women as they are - and glorifying women rights too. It is a holiday of women in all socieal roles: as girls, wives, mothers, grandmothers - and as working woman too. It is a cause to remind everyone how women are important to the society and family. The holiday was created as feminist day originally but it became much more than a Feminism Day later as society had a need in a day like this, to make a holyday for all women to сelebrate and thank women for every good thing they did for family and society.
I've been to this area when I was younger with my parents, but it's amazing to see it now through your lens during these busy days of March
Many do not even remember this day, the most important holiday dedicated to women is still Women's Day
@7:25 Leora seems like such a lovely young lady. She takes great pride in her work. Which is really refreshing to see now a days 🙂
I wish her great success.
I am surprised at the amount of flowers 🌹🌼🌻💐🌷available for sale, at those Huge flower shops. 😮
I do not believe that they will be able to sell them all. ☹
It's funny you had an issue with the "filming"...Sam had the Sam had the same issue, when he entered an establishment. 🤨
Thanks Russ , as always, for your great videos. They are a joy to see & I really enjoy, when you get a chance to interact with the locals.
❤I love the Russian People, their Cuisine, their Family & Moral Values and of course, their Beautiful Country in all. ❤
Russians love flowers a lot, as they have long and snowy winter with very short daytime. So flowers are common gift for a date, birthday and so on. Flowers bring some color to the eyes when world around cold and white/gray because of snow and thick clouds.
This is big and beautiful!!!
It certainly was.
Thank you for the video. The flowers are beautiful. Happy International Women's Day 💐
I used to visit this place back in the past. Amazing how the market has expanded. Known not only for variety of flowers and bouquets but also for reasonable prices (except for the 1st week of March bargains are acceptable). The latter space might not be so imposing but the fragrances beat it all.
Women's Day is an Australian glossy magazine.
Stay warm, good video 👍
Thanks, its gradually warming up here now after winter.
Russell great place to visit!!! I ❤🌸🌹🌷🌻🌺I was surprised you didn’t tell us how it smelled in there?! Was it a nice smell or was it hard to distinguish different flowers or was it an odd smell due to sooo many different types of flowers?! Also what is your wife’s favourite flowers and favourite colour/colours when it comes to flowers? Princess Diana favours white flowers and Forget me nots! And disappointed you didn’t show us what you bought her!
