A huge monster with a gapping mouth
To me, The Mind Flayer is far more terrifying and ominous than Vecna. Something that looks like an ancient, world ending, Lovecraftian monster, that we still know very little about in the span of three seasons, gives me more main villain vibes than a charred rotting man with psychic abilities that we got the whole back story of in the span of a couple episodes. Don't get me wrong, Vecna is a really creepy dude and the creators, and Jamie Campbell Bower, did an amazing job with the character. But personally, learning that Vecna was the one behind everything feels kind of meh. I know the Duffers said that we will be exploring more of the UD in season 5, so I hope that there is way more to the MF particles than Vecna's puppet and that it's an ancient entity that has existed for billions of years thus making Dustin's theory correct.
This is most likely wishful thinking but, perhaps the MF particles sensed Henry's memories, powers and desires, and flayed him in a way that makes him think that he is the one in control and allowing V to mold him into a spider shape to gain his trust, and then the MF absorbing him fully when he is no longer needed.
Exactly I love Vecna but the fear of the unknown is always the worst, Vecna being part human removes some of that fear unless it turns out he was controlled by the mind flayer and not the other way around alla this time

Fun fact:
The Demogorgon was able to move between dimensions. It entered Hawkins repeatedly by creating temporary tears in space-time.
The Demogorgon name is inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons creature.
The show was originally called 'Montauk' and took inspiration from an alleged US Military programme named The Montauk Project which, legend has it, included experiments on children involving mind reading, mind control and time travel.
I'm wondering if they are gunna show us next season how the Demogorgon was able to open gates in season 1 but Vecna (who is in control of the hive mind and in turn in control of the Demogorgon) couldn't until he "took" Eleven's ability to do so at the end of season 3.
I'm also wondering why the Demodogs and the season 4 Demogorgon didn't have that ability.
Same with the telekinesis when unlocking the Byers family's door. (It was the season 1 Demogorgon who did that not Vecna as we can hear its growl before the lock is moved).
@@linkeron1 I think, since the Demodogs aren't fully developed Demogorgons, they don't possess the same level of power and abilities. And as for the other Demogorgon in season 4... Well I have no idea. It could be possible Vecna was supplying the season 1 Demogorgon with the power to pass through dimensions. Or not, since he himself wasn't able to do it until he took Elven's powers...
I really hope the mind flayer has his own identity, in the next season and he’s just not a mindless cloud. And not a vessel for Vecna to transcend his human form and has its own entity.

Exactly my thoughts, I really liked the cosmic horror aspect of the series and don't want to see it degraded into Vecna, a former human being the ultimate threat. It would almost feel like a superhero series. I think the best way is as the characters said Vecna being like a 5 stars general of the mind flayer. I would love to see Vecna think he has total control only to realise he was a mere vessel for the mind flayer and he is to be discarded when his use run its course.
@@DGVFX I ended up creating a theory, and if this theory were real, it would be a great twist plot for the show and many who were disappointed would be satisfied.
Well, come on, if you've watched Naruto Shippuden, you'll understand what I'm going to say now. Let's assume that Vecna is Madara and Mind Flayer is black Zetsu, basically Madara thought he created Zetsu and that it was his will, but Zetsu was not his creation and ended up manipulating/deceiving and betraying him at the end of the show, so basically, my theory is that Mind Flayer already had the goal of going to our world to dominate it, but he didn't know how to do that, until when Vecna went upside down and he found Mind Flayer, he saw the opportunity to use Henry to get his plans, so he read Henry's mind and saw what his vengeful intentions were and what he loved spiders, so the Mind Flayer made Vecna believe that he created/shaped his form, as he would only be using him and then end up discarding/betraying him at the end of the show.
If my theory is right, it would end up doing that whole Lovecraft-like ancient entity aspect that Mind Flayer was to come back to, and not to mention it would be a hell of a plot twist that would surprise a lot of people

The Mind Flayer IS its own entity, Vecna didn’t create it nor does he really control it, the scene where he supposedly “creates” the mind flayed is merely him shaping the particles (the mind flayer) into his own vision, that being the spider form that he has

The mind flayer is so terrifying. I hope it doesn't turn into a brainless-savage-monster like the one in season 3. I want something more complex like it seems to be (connected with everything in the Upside Down). Dustin came up with the possibility of the Upside Down being created million of years ago and I would love to see the Mind Flayer as a creature older than everything we know.
Got to agree Vecna being the big bad guy is a bit anticlimactic in my opinion he is great and creepy but just a man, as you mentioned the mind flayer being possibly millions of years old makes it a lot more terrifying

the mind flayer in the spider monster form had one goal, to take eleven's powers to become stronger because he knew that eleven was strong enough to stop him. the mind flayer isn't a "brainless-savage-monster" he's actually smart and doesn't even eat human flesh, he wanted to kill El at the end of season 3 even after he took her powers. you can even see when the mind flayer was chasing after nancy, steve and the kids, Flayed billy saw El at the starcourt mall and the mind flayer through the hive mind saw El was at the mall and not in the car and literally turned around to go after El. he clearly realises he needs to defeat his own threats before annihilating the world
The Mind Flayer is Vecna. As you saw, the mind flayer was just a formless ball of chaos before Vecna gave it a shape. It's the hivemind of the Upside Down dimension's life, and Vecna has full control of it. The "Mind Flayer" isn't a person, every action the "Mind Flayer" has done was Vecna all along.

It was stated at the end of season 4 by Vecna himself that he shaped the Mind Flayer from the formless shape it took, and controlled it to do his bidding. And he wanted to get revenge on Eleven, and take her powers so she couldn't be a threat anymore. So it's not proven yet that the Mind Flayer ISN'T a "brainless-savage-monster".
I hope the Mind Flayer is the real villain of the series. it's pretty dull to think that a simple hunan is behind all this. I want to see the Mind Flayer again and play an important role in Season 5.
I don’t think it’s dull necessarily. I think that he has become the very thing he sought to destroy. He remarks how it was a world untouched by humanity, but if you look at its current state you can see how much worse he’s made things in his resentment

The thing with me is that when Vecna showed how he found the Upside Down, showed him shaping the clouds into the Mind Flayer’s shape, making me think that he made the Mind Flayer, which I definitely do not like
The Mind Flayer has the potential to be an ancient eldritch deity, and yet they’re starting to make it more like a vessel for Vecna, which is just lame
Well he gave it form not create it, so it could still be the ancient God we want it to be

Now, in Russia, we saw that those particles went inside the demogorgons and seemed to make them stronger, I think that Vecna wants to bring the mind flayer into the normal world and then consume it, making him almost invicible.

The mind flayer was easily the most intimidating creature in stranger things. I felt wills fear every-time he was struck there with it.
Glad to see so many people who want the Mind Flayer as not only it's own entity, but also the main antagonist of the series, not Vecna. I've seen theories, like maybe the Mind Flayer was the reason Henry had powers to begin with, and maybe he'd been influencing him in the hopes that he would one day arrive in the upside down. Would explain the fact that Henry drew a giant shadow spider, which the Mind Flayer just so happens to be a giant shadow, all he needed was form, so maybe the Mind Flayer put that image into Henry's head.
There's no leads for theories like that though, they're just theories pretty much based off of nothing. Like, there's no signs that that's how Henry got his powers, it's all just guesses. Would make sense though. If he didn't get his powers from the alternate dimension, where could he have gotten them from? Unless he just had them, end of story, but that doesn't make much sense
Venca was born with his psychic powers just like Eleven.
Papa put multiple people under a drug experiment just like Eleven's mom.
Some of them were aware of this experiment while some didn't.
Venca's mother knew her son had something to do with all of the deaths at their house which may hint that she (like Terry aka eleven's mom) was part of the experiment.
How else did Papa know Venca had psychic powers to begin with

thats a good theory but i dont understand the mind flayer being the main antagonist we already fought the mind flayer in season 2 when it possessed will and season 3 when it took actual form in reality so how would the mind flayer come back, the reason vecna is the main one is because he messes with your mind something thats way harder to avoid and or fight then a actual being like demodogs and the mind flayer in s3, also i think the point of them having henry give the mind flayer its form is to show he is the master of everything he is the pupeter he is the final boss.
also technically the mind flayer is vecna thats why mind flayer billy took eleven not any of the the other kids there and took her to the mind flayer and why the mind flayer went to the cabin where eleven was it didn't go after an other civilians and we know vecna hates eleven so that would be his motive. Season's 3 monster remains as of my favorites because it was so creepy and unearthly like. All the creatures in stranger things are phenomenal, but I truly hope the mind flayer is an ACTUAL entity living monster that makes it's form in the last season and not just some shadowy smoke like figure.

That the mind flayer was waiting right there in the upside down for henry as a trap so that he could minipulate him. I don’t know why but I don’t remember the demogorgon being that tall in the first 3 seasons. It surprised me when I saw it in season four
in some peoples headcanons, the demogorgon in s1 was way older and thus less agile and opposing than the adolescent demogorgon in s4, but in all reality it was just so the s4 shots could look cooler

While I get the duffers wanted a new villain for the 4th season, I kind of wished they kept it focused on the mind flayer, since they had created the show with a lot of sci-fi and cosmic horror in mind.

the story of vecna really just shows us why it always Hawkins getting attacked , why the upsidedown looked like hawkins, why elevens group was always the one getting into it.
The mind flayer being an evil entity from another dimension is far more interesting than just him being created by vecna

So, half the fandom is glad Vecna was behind it all, and the other half wished the Mind Flayer was still top dog. I personally find myself on the ladder side because I just find giant lovecraftian monsters cool.
I got to agree, love Vecna but the fear of the unknown is always greater. Vecna is still human in a way you can talk with him read his face expect what he might want to achieve but an ancient interdimensional being which we are not even capable to understand even if we wanted is far more scary and fitting to the series.

Nancy said in the vision Vecna showed her, she saw a giant monster with a gapping mouth. It's possible that this particular monster is going to be bigger than the Shadow Monster/Mind Flayer. With that, it's going to be their biggest threat in season 5. I wonder what monster from Dungeons & Dragons it's going to be named after.

In Season 5, I would really like to see more of the Demogorgon (Even though it was seen in season 1 and 4 but it didn't have a major part in it) and The Mind Flayer. Since their roles aren't that big in the previous seasons! Hopefully we can see more of them and they will have bigger roles.

Very unpopular opinion of mine, I hate Vecna, the mind flayer is so much scarier and mysterious then Vecna, he is just a zombie looking guy in my eyes that used to be human. And season 4 disappointed me a lot. Also doesn't help that I found out about Stranger things through the Mind Flayer.
Could not agree more, the Mind Flayer is so much cooler then Vecna, and the mystery of him has me at the edge of my seat, and I'm with you on season 4, I did not like it either.
They’re both scary for different reasons, vecna is more personally scary because he uses his trauma against you, while mind flayer is more scary due its otherworldly shape and size. Season 4 was great imo, there some downsides but the performances from most of the cast were above average. Better than s3 and s2 in terms of horror.

You guys are missing the point, it’s not his appearance that’s the scary part. It’s his way of viewing humanity. There’s no way out to convince him to not kill you, he’ll just use your trauma to put you down. Scary doesn’t always have to be about appearance. Also the way he kills his victims makes this a top tier season itself.

Remember Nancy said she saw a massive monster in her vision from Vecna in episode 8. Then Vecna explained the Mind Flayer was just a means to transcend his human form. The most likely scenario is that with his damaged body he's gonna essentially combine with the mind flayer and make an even more massive and horrific flesh monster than in season 3. Or maybe there's another monster hidden in the upside down, hence the earthquakes we kept seeing in season 4.
Also there's still the question of how the upside down went from the orange hellscape it was in 1979 to being a carbon copy of Earth in 1983 when Will disappeared.

@@venerexate1841 she knows what a demogorgon looks like, she would likely have said if it was a demogorgon she saw. And if she somehow doesn't know what they're all calling it at this point, she mightve looked at Steve and said "it looked like the thing back at the Byers house 3 years ago" or something.
It's either not a demogorgon or a throwaway line that won't mean anything in the future.
@@NoJenk there are no throwaway lines in this show. The earthquakes, the monster, the gaping mouth, the army, vecna, the mind flayer, they all tie into the same story… we just have to figure out how…
@@NoJenk I mean, it could just be that the upside-down is geologically unstable and that will play an important role later, but we haven’t seen any evidence of this until now, so it must be that there is another monster… perhaps a full, 50-story physical flesh form of the mindflayer? Perhaps another spider monster? Perhaps another monster? But there will definitely be a new monster introduced in season 5

Mind Flayer will most definitely be the coolest if it does indeed beat Vecnas for claiming it's territory. I doubt that the Mind Flayer will want the mesh of Hawkins and the Upside Down. I'm not entirely sure why I think so but it's just seems like it would want that for not attempting to leave The Upside Down in the beginning. It was the Demagorgan and stuff and that's when Vecnas/Henry/One already took in part of it with the Hive Mind. 🤔💭 hmmm
the mind flayer is vecna technically when the mind flayer takes form in season 3 it goes after eleven not any other of the kids or civilains in hawkins and we know vecna has a problem with eleven so that shows vecna controls the mind flayer thats what season 4 was about the fact that vecna is the final boss who was controlin everything from before eleven even says ''it was always you'' and also even how mind flayer billy talks to eleven too shows it was vecna talking through him

@@venerexate1841 because it's not an eldritch god. It's not even a creature nor is it a character. It's just a moving object that vecna controls. A separate entity if dust. So there practically is no "mindflayer". There is only vecna.

whats wrong with jason? He was just a good person put in a wrong situation. He was trying to avenge the death of someone he loved, and he had good reason to believe it was eddie, and that eddie had demonic powers given the time and setting of the show and the way he saw his friend die infront of him whilst going after eddie.
Also, what makes Billy, the abuser and racist, excusable if Jason and angela arnt?
@@oceanman6973 Jason attempted to kill Lucas which is an innocent person without any proper judgement is WORST and an act of a monster. That's why I treat him like one. And Billy's racism and abuse is inexcusable but he did a little redemption in the end where he save El and said sorry to Max so my thoughts on Billy is half good and half bad.
@@thelonetraveller2256 think about the context of him trying to kill Lucas. In his eyes not only did Lucas betray him, but was also an accomplice in the murder. That and whenever they fought he never acted with direct aggression, always approaching ready to fight but with conversation first.

in my opinion, Vecna was pretty underhwlming as the classic boogeyman antagonist. What would be awesome is if in season 5 it's revealed that Vecna is the Mind Flayer's puppet and probably gets squished or something for not delivering his promises to the Flayer

Max isn't going to live! Remember the letters!? ...she's the key to beating vecna, and in beating him they will save her soul, and then pull a hopper, and have her friends reading her letters to them, after she dies. Duffers already confirmed she was supposed to die completely this season , and they kept her alive to make the audience wonder.
