Terävä Skrama carbon steel with Mora piggyback. I find myself reaching for that combo every time even though I am the proud owner of several Bark River knives including the Aurora and Gunny scandi. The Skrama is is close to a one tool option as any I've ever seen with its dual grinds. Not really an easy blade to carry around on your waist but I rarely go into the woods without a pack of some sort. It straps there nicely.
EDIT: I actually just found your review of the Skrama. Nice work, guys!

    • @aaahbeeeh3374
      @aaahbeeeh3374 5 лет назад +1

i like the skrama, too. its design and heft is such a great feel, its so fun to play around with it. just a good-feel tool, especially for delimbing fresh limbs and hacking through thinner, fresh wood.
so i compared it to a fiskars xxs (almost like an x5), x7, gränsfors bruks hatchet and axe, condor parang, glock m78, etc.
pragmatically the xxs (and x5) came out to me as the overall best tool for smaller firemaking and wandering around, in combination with a smaller knife and bigger saw of course. the other tools were too big, heavy or not efficient enough. the skrama misses the efficiency in thicker wood compared to a hatchet/axe a lot. if the wood is harder, the skrama is suffering a lot. it bounces of and it wont baton good enough. the xxs for example can split by itself or being batoned.
if it would be about a one-tool option, id say the gränsfors bruks axe (55cm long) or the skrama are the winners. not meaning about survival, just casual use. not tried a kukri so far.

Great knives and interesting stories behind them. It really shows that you have a clear definition of what your favorite knives must be able to do. My favorite is Kellam tracker. It is a great wood splitter, chopper and you can even carve with it. It is a carbon steel knife with a scandi grind so it is easy to sharpen. I am also partial to a little puuko I made my self from an old saw blade, but that is more of a sentimental favorite and not for functionality, even though it is great for smaller tasks.

By a long shot my cheapest knife is a Cold Steel GI Tanto, it’s not even remotely a bushcraft knife yet I still find myself carrying it often out into the wilderness. It’s got a piercing tip/secondary blade at the tip so I filed that down a bit, and took off part of the guard, lashed some wire through the sheath, and convexed the blade. $30 ish dollars for a stellar all around knife. Even though it’s rusty, the steel isn’t great, and the sheath dulls the blade it’s still one of my favorite knives.

The Plus is different steel (14C28N), has a (much) better sheath (at least in photos), and is longer (1cm blade/2cm overall) and thicker (1mm). i think the swappable handle scales are a feature of the original, not only the Plus, since the original comes with the "individual" series
and yes, since the MSRP is roughly double, at the point i'd choose the original without question (as would most people hence the massive discounts), but considering the Plus is often discounted and found for 10-15€ more (one place was selling it for the same as the original), it might make it a better value...

Tell you what my favorite knife is??? Impossible, because like you guys, it changes with new knives which come out, or I "discover". But, if you forced an answer...EDC - a folding knife (Benchmade mini-Gryptilian), but I am also a rancher in the American west so I frequently need (and prefer) a larger fixed blade (current favorite - Fallkniven "IDUN") which I carry specifically when I'm riding or are around, horses. Ropes, lines and horses...if you need to free you or the horse immediately! Hunting - Bark River "Cub" in CPM3V and black micarta, Fishing - Cold Steel "Master Hunter" in CarbonV and around camp, Scagel - "Medium Camp Knife" in CPM3V with a Maple Burl handle. Oh, I'm just getting started!!! Thanks for the fun videos.

But almost every single one has a small problem; uneven grind, handles with wood that is swelling, issues with the burlap micarta handles fraying. But they still are probably the most enjoyable knives to use and I stick by them. Interestingly, in kitchen use, I’ve had the CPM 154 steel kitchen knife stain more than my 3V mountain man.

As crazy as it is, you guys gave me a Bark River Bravo III, and I love it, but it isn't my favorite knife right now. In fact, I love the Bravo III so much, that it has inspired me to buy two more (and counting) Bark Rivers since then, and its one of those that is my favorite right now: the Micro Bravo.
The reality is, I live in the city, and I only get a chance to go out and really use my Bravo III maybe once a month if I'm lucky. The Micro Bravo takes all that Bravo goodness and puts it in a tiny fixed blade that I can carry EDC without getting uncomfortable attention, and it is just ridiculously functional and comfortable for its size. There is something really special about when I pull it out, and people think it's some kind of joke because it's so small, but I know how much potential it really has... wait are we still talking about my knife?

Wait, whats the issue with the new Gunny Scandi's? I was looking into getting one but now im hesitant.

There are no big issues with the gunny scandi bought a month ago. The only issue is that it came with microbevel and it was quite dull. However this was easy to fix with my water stones. The knife performs great know. Don't hesitate. Just buy the knife. It is great. (Just get one with liners)

Oh man, I honestly do not know if I could pick just one favorite knife lol but I can narrow it down to 4 in fixed blades 1- brk jx5 vengeful one in 3V with ghostjade g10, 2- brk CUB in 3V with black G10, 3- brk Aurora in 3V ghost jade, 4- (have yet to seek a good review still) Hogue knives ex-f01 7in blade in A2 tool steel!!! There is my top 4, which I would really love to see you boys get ahold of a JX5 and also a Hogue ex-f01 and make a video on them, your favorites might just change once again! Lol

If I'd have to choose from mine, my absolute favorite is the Spyderco Bushcraft UK.

Love your channel guys!! Just went to your online store, all the good stuff is sold out and only the cheap things remain. Also there really isn't a lot there. Would be great to go to your online store and be able to see and buy all the knives you review.

DBK please review the Ontario Sp5 10" Bowie knife. I know you wont touch the tracker knife, but this is different. You guys are the unofficial mythbusters of knives on RUclips.

Im trying to buy my first knife and you guys are helping its hard to "pull the trigger" however so many choices. I've narrowed it down between Bark River Puukko or Leucu. Mora Garberg is looking sexy as well. Im not sure how big a blade i want yet.

Still wish you guys would try an LT Wright knife. The Genesis or the GNS. Seeing what the two of you like, I would guess that you would like the GNS better, but I personally like the genesis. Another very nice knife from them that is smaller is the Lagom.

Have you guys considered making a video about the Cold Steel SRK in CPM-3V?
I know the sheath sucks, but it might make a neat comparison with some of the Fallknivens perhaps.
    It's pretty cheap - about $130, I think.

Hello Dutch Bushcraft Knives, which sharpening stone do you recommend for complete knife repair? My knife is in extremely bad shape and i need to do a lot of work on it. I would like to know what is the fastest sharpening stone you guys recommend for removing a lot of metal in the shortest time possible?

My favorite knife will vacillate allot. But right now it is the LT Wright Next Gen. I have always been looking for a great balance of neck knife features, and so far this one takes the cake. I am also presently fond of the Garberg, The Genesis, and The benchmade puukko 200. My favorite back up knife is the Mora 510, and the Mora Bushcraft.

I really wish you would try out one of BBB's monster slicers sometime. Put them to the test and see what his monsters can do in your hands!
