- Finally Ladies and gentleman! We are ready to launch the DBK Knife! The DBK Bushcrafter in Elmax! We are so damn proud! Today we tested the knife to its limits so you dont have to and to show off it's capabilities! Thank you all so much for making this possible! After many years of testing of what we think are the best knives in the world. We just cherry picked the best qualities per knife and put it into one 'perfect' knife.
A knife with our favorite handle, steel, length, grind, colors etc.
We are a RUclips 'Knife' channel (Dutch Bushcraft Knives) and are able to basically get all knives we need for videos. And because of that we have an insane knife collection to choose out of.
The size is based on Mikkie B's 'Gunny Scandi' and is our favorite size for bushcraft/ survival, hunting and woodworks. The Blade height is based on the Fallkniven NL5, the Blade length is somewhere in the middle of a Gunny and Bravo 1. All this made with the highest quality standard of TRC.
The quality can be this high because every knife is inspected during each step of it's fabrication process and for a big part made by hand.
These are not factory knives, these are semi-hand made. Exactly as we want!
The knife is made for bushcraft and all round camping tasks in mind. batonning, feathersticking, carving and making fire. But when the need arises the knife is strong enough to depend your life on. Literally... a knife that can safe your life. This knife will be your buddy through thick and thin.

Thanks a lot! It is indeed as you say. We didnt want to do a cheap production in china. Even with that the knives would probably cost around 160-200 . And with that we wouldnt be able to stand behind the knives quality. The DBK knife now is far from cheap but we can 100% be proud of it and stand behind it's quality.

One of the bigger german-speaking survival/bushcraft youtuber Reini Rossmann recently brought out his own knife as well. It would be really cool to see a test video about that one.
Commenting on this so it gets more attention.
His knife is more of a general use field knife/Survival style knife. DBK knife is more of a hunting stye knife, that can also work wood well enough, because of it's convex edge. Also, the DBK is made by TRC knives, which is the best build quality maker out there at the moment. (Heat treatment, blade geometry, fit and finish etc). DBK knife, looks like the clear winner.
Bought one of the first 300 DBK knives the second I saw this video, came back watched the video and got even more excited and now I can’t get the background song out of my head. I might add that when I was tasked to be the heat treater for a machine shop only because I mentioned I made knives as a hobby.
I would use drop-offs from jobs I HT'ed to make knives or axes. I had a bunch of S5 40mmx100mm flat bar pieces so I read up on forging it and made the hardest toughest ax heads you ever saw. I used a powdered charcoal Borax flux to keep the de-carb down while forging and during equalizing/anneal/heat treating I use Brownell's ATP mixed with the fine charcoal powder to cover the steel. Because of the low carbon count 0.60% one must be watchful of decarburization with this steel. I made the carbon powder by grinding pieces of charcoal with 120 grit belts.
I made the axes a little "Viking/Norse" looking, but still great for felling or wood working. I ended up with 8 good axe heads over the space of three years. All HRC 59 to 61 hard and could chop through 16d nails without chipping. I cut some 40mm by 4mm thick slabs from pieces leftover over 200mm long and using stock removal made some great hunting knives that I sold with the axes. Luckily I kept one axe for myself, but alas only a small fixed pocket knife. You can barely file the edge being 60 hard.
In my not very wide experience S-5 is superior to S-7 and 3V, but it is hard to find except as drill rod or some thick metric sizes from Europe. It is a little expensive too, more than L6 or O1, but not $300+ 3V expensive.
As quenched in oil (Parks 50) S5 is 64 hard and a 500 temper gets you 60 hardness. It is so tough thick parts, like ax-heads, can be quenched in water, knives will warp though, but it doesn't crack.
So if you want tough and edge holding try S5 tool steel.

On the topic of spending a lot of money on a knife. I have been saving up for this knife for over a year now. (am a broke uni student) and now i can't buy the limited edition because my bank is having issues.
I can't describe how happy i am the knife is out yet i am terrifyingly sad that i can't support them AND get that one of 300 version. I wish there was a way to reserve one or something.

That grind and initial sharpness is amazing - I’ve never experienced (or even seen) anything approaching it in a factory knife! Reminds me of a couple of Shosui Takeda customs that I own. Great design!
