    This is my favorite Slip Angle video, I found this video about a year and a half ago when I was first getting into the Miata community. It really inspired me to turbo my miata and ever since I saw this video I have loved watching all your other videos and I love the new look of the channel! I want to be entered into the shift knob give away! Thanks!

    Your miata has exactly 100whp and 100 ft. lbs. of torque more than my RX-7 SA22C with a streetported & carb'd NA 4 port 13B, just thought it was a funny coincidence, but you have a very beautiful setup and I can only imagine how much fun this is to drive and rip through corners

    Hi, love the car, your pretty hard on that 5 speed, have you had to replace it yet? And do you run different boost in different gears to ease the strain on the con rods? And what rpm do you have the torque come in with the tune you are running? Thanks, sorry for all the questions, just building my own nb atm, very similar setup to yours, just worried about the torque on the gearbox and rods.. thanks again!..

    Miatas, especially NAs, are classic, in fact, they are timeless! They are something from the now getting-old past, which is better, in MHO, than anything being produced today, including the NC and ND Miatas. They are the original conception, genius, and that cannot be improved upon!

    Awesome car. I am also running MSPNP2 and a greddy setup on my miata, however I struggle with boost issues related to the wastegate actuator. Do you have a recommendation?

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  8 лет назад +1

      +André Baumgartner Get a stronger wastegate actuator and size as close to the max boost you want to run as possible. The more you deviate from what it is rated for, the more it will struggle to maintain that boost level.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад

      I bought it as a kit years ago that included the spacer for the NA Miata
      body. You just have to remove the old antenna assembly and sandwich the
      body with the new antenna assembly, It just screws together.

    Hi! I noticed none of the cars have a coolant reroute. I am curious what is your opinion on the coolant reroute or why haven't you done it :) (i searched your threads if this has been answered before, but i couldn't find one). Thanks!

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад +4

      Since this car is primarily a street car, I don't think it really warrants it. If I were to track it a lot then it might be of benefit. It is only my personal opinion, but I don't think the coolant reroute is as critical as it has been made out to. In Spec Miata we weren't allowed the modification and would run 4 hour enduro races on hot days without issues. Now that doesn't mean that I don't think there is some added benefit to it, but just not a necessity.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  8 лет назад +1

      +Zypher9dotse Thanks man. I typically enjoy driving the ITB car more for technical stuff. It just edges out the turbo car in regards to the balance and overall experience. Maybe that will change once this turbo cars gets an all motor 13b ;)

    I'm on the edge of doing something to make my Miata faster, but I'm not really sure about turbo, since this car is my main time attack weapon, and way to master the driving aspects. I've been tracking mine for 2 years now, I would like to add power, but I'm not sure if turbo is a way to go, since I really like N/A engines. Is your setup responsive enough to the throttle? I never put a turbo to any car, so I'm not really sure what to expect.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  Год назад

      It's just a really different power delivery. Throttle will never be as responsive as the ITB cars but the ITB cars will never make as much power as the FI cars. Best bet would be to try to get a ride in someone's and see how it feels to you

    I had a question on how you installed your fender flares; the fronts are fairly straightforward but on the rears there are 2 layers of metal and I'm not quite sure what to do. I've seen people fold the metal over the edge, fill the gap with expanding foam, or weld the gap shut. I'm just curious on how you did yours since I'll be installing some to accommodate wider tires. Any help is appreciated!

    • @TheSlipAngle

    Hi, Quinn! How would you compare the GT2560r to the TD04h-15g?

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад

      I don't have direct experience with the GT2560r, but I am pretty sure the wheel sizes are similar. If it is ball bearing it will probably punch a little harder as boost comes on. I kind of prefer journal bearing turbos just because they are a little easier to modulate the throttle during corner exit oversteer situations than ball bearing turbos.

    Quin, love these videos. I Just picked up an engine from a 99 car that i am planning on rebuilding for a turbo and swapping into my 1992. I'm looking for help creating a build sheet of what is necessary and what is not to make good reliable power (approximately 250-300). Would love the help if you could.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  8 лет назад +2

      +Will T You can do 250 to 275 whp (maybe even more) all day long on stock internal engine. The tuning and cooling will be the most critical aspects of the reliability assuming you have everything else to support the setup: fueling, drivetrain, etc.

    Awesome build. I can see how in 2005 this would have been a really up-to-date turbo build. If you don't mind me asking why are you still using the FMU with the MS1? Also, why the Greddy EBC and not running a MAC valve off the MS1?
    Love the car and I think your builds are some of the most complete and attention to detail orientated for someone that drives the cars so hard. I focused much more on the function aspect on my NA but I agree 100% that the hardtop and other styling ques are needed to distract from the overall feminine presence of the car. Again, credit goes to your great eye for detail. I would almost assume you did some time in the military or a parent perhaps.

      +NA6 driver I literally have one of the first run of group buy MSPNPs made. There was issues early on that were sorted out over several firmware revisions, so I didn't really want to mess around with adding auxiliaries. And maybe because 10 years ago, a much less experienced me was probably too afraid to solder more stuff to the board lol.
      As for the FMU, it came with the Greddy kit. It was 200.00 for an adjustable FPR or 13.00 for the 3:1 disk that is in there now. Both are just a means of raising fuel pressure, so I didn't really see the benefit of spending the money on an adjustable unit if I could just buy the new disk.
      Thank you very much for compliments, but I am neither military or a parent. I am just a guy who loves automotive with a great passion and try to demonstrate that love in the details of my builds :)

      +Quinn Kizis I missed the part where you changed the disk in the FMU. I can see how you would need more fuel pressure at your power level on the 460s. I'm a bit lower power than you with fresh 460s and see 80% duty cycle at 180kPa on cold nights at 43psi fuel pressure.
      I can also understand not wanting to fix something that isn't broken, and the EBC clearly works well for you, lol. Love the builds man, and thanks for investing into some audio equipment, it really helped out in this video. looking forward to your future projects.

      Td04h-15g and yes I clocked it to have more flexibility with running the IC piping.

    Just got me a 2014 miata. Please advise to choose the right stuff to get more power and yet be a daily driving machine.
    Thanks

      Do you know just how much goes into this? The hours of fucking research and trial and error and then here comes you "please hand me shit for free." Knowledge cost you the same price as the rest of us, TIME. which aint' cheap, so get to reading. XD

    Such a sick car, god damn. Do you ever feel like you went with too much horsepower? Since it does seem to be like a hand full to manage or is the 250 horsepower worth it? I have a 99 Miata my self and I always thought around 200 horsepower with small turbo that spools fast would be perfect because it would still be easy as hell to manage but give me that extra power the car is lacking. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for making all these informative videos.

      +Matthew Heagerty Thanks man. I'd say this car is close to the limit of what the chassis can take before it really becomes a joke car. The track surface at Lime Rock's go kart track is definitely less grippy than normal road conditions. If you are looking for around 200-230 whp I think the Rotrex supercharger kits are the way to go. They are reasonably priced, very simple to install and produce less heat than other superchargers and turbochargers. Or you can do a K series swap if you want all motor. 200 whp N/A is not easy on a BP. I've just about maxed my NB engine out while keeping it streetable and it is making 185 whp all motor.

      Quinn Kizis I saw your NB videos and couldn't get enough of that car. Do you think your NB is more fun than an s2000?
      I absolutely love s2000's mainly due to the engine and gear box. I feel like the NB is more fun to throw around corners due to lower weight and shorter wheel base or just what mazda did making the chassis, haha.

    My dreamcar would be your NA car with all the interior and exterior parts but with your NB ITB engine/handling setup. That would be sick

      The funny thing is that I have actually contemplated doing that exact swap in the past.

    I have a similar output turbo miata with lots of chassis and suspension upgrades. It's got Toyo Proxes r1r tires and it's like you say: it's too much grip. Especially on the street if I want to try and drift around a corner, on stock tires I could do it at 30, now I'd have to be going 50 and it's a lot less predictable.

      The struggle is real man lol. I just replaced the Kuhmo XS on my NB with Dunlop DZ102's and the car got a lot more playful again. I will be doing the same with this car once the BFG's are done.

    how do you like the car without power steering? I've been debating removing mine and I'm just not sure

    • @bartvanriel6767
      @bartvanriel6767 7 лет назад

      unknown1creature just do it, I did it to my nb and I'm absolutely loving it, good weight while driving and certainly don't need it in the parking lot with a car this light

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад +2

      It's not too bad. You probably want to remove as much caster as you can
      with the alignment as the steering effort required does increase. The
      wider wheels and grippy tires also add to this effect. It is certainly
      manageable on a small light car like the Miata though. I mostly did it
      for the space savings and to be able to run my IC piping how I wanted
      to. My NB with only 8" wheels and 205 tires is much nicer to drive with a
      depowered rack.

      Never had it in mine, parking etc is a bit of a workout, but once you get going all is well. All in all, i'm glad i don't have it as i love the feeling.
