Old school! My dad who is 87 would appreciate this, he learned this trade when he was in his teens. Cabinet maker. Dying breed though. I know but one more guy (his trainee) who can do it, that's all. And he is 71 yo. Good to know that this trade is alive albeit in other country. Go Poland!
jcrnda .....Hi, I'm a cabinet maker, I live in the UK in Norfolk, there are quite a few C, M's here and many many more across the world . Have a good search on RUclips and you will find them. Enjoy.
Reviewed in detail your video several times. With stops and photos of frames to yourself in the photo gallery. I plan to make myself the same nuisance on the guides, I have already acquired all the details, and the stripes and screw from the screw support for scaffolding, with a tee for attaching the flywheel, and the flywheel itself from a shovel cutter. And it's important that I do everything while winter, in a city apartment in Moscow. The spouse does not fight, - endures. And I will make a folding garden chair Adirondack with a retractable footrest from under the seat. In RUclips, only one video has seen this kind of design, thank you for the detailed video and idea!! Hello from Moscow!!
The beauty of this is that the jaws are open on the side allowing for tilted holding. I’m going to do something similar on my new workbench. Seems so much more useful than the enclosed type. This man has some serious skills….and some serious chisels!
Beautiful Craftsmanship ! Also nice to see somebody using traditional Wood Screws on a modern project when i was a child i used to enjoy going through my Dads Screw collection in his shop and organizing them to make it easier for him
Good to see such high quality work done with little to no help from power tools. Just skill, ingenuity, elbow grease, nice wood, and clearly some sort of magic. Oh, patience, lots of that. Well done!
I'm really impressed with your emphasis on hand-powered tools. It's refreshing - in so many videos there's literally a circus of specialty machines that I don't have. This was very nice. I particularly like that flywheel-loaded drill press unit you have.
Mr.Gakos. Your work just brought dear memories of my late father in law. You as he was are real craftsman, and a good one, must I say,; hopefully, this art you can pass it down to a next of kin. I am a retired general surgeon and your amazing abilities have great merit, hope you pass them on to a younger generation. Congratulations and greetings from Chihuahua, Mexico.
Better than anything on tv. A beautiful build done to perfection, mainly with hands tools and it was a shear joy to watch. I’m sure it’s equally a joy to use and you must feel a little pride every time you use it.
I've been looking, for too long, for a explanation on how to build a tail vise like this... This is just perfect, and with all the diy components explained in such an understandable way... Thank you so much, we're ending 2021 and this video enters directly for my podium of the year, cheers!
Thank you again for taking time to record and post these videos. We really gain a great deal from your demonstrations of skill and technique. Have a great weekend.
Wow! That handpowered pillar-drill though! SO satisfying to watch. Can’t even emagine how satisfying it is to use! I MUST have one!!! Also, very exquisit work! 👌
I freaking love the fact that you showed some of the complications of the build and didn't make it look like it was so easy to do. Great video buddy. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Wow! Love the mix of old and new - laser cut steel and MIG welding in addition to hand planes and the very cool flywheel drill press. Beautiful work Mr. Gakos!
Stavros, thank you for this build. It has helped me understand how to build a copy of a Benchcrafted vise since I could not afford their tail vise. Nice work Sir. Also, there is no way that vise will sag/droop. Very thoughtful design and execution. Love it. All the best, and Merry Christmas (3 years later)!
Great video and loved all the hand tools - surprised every time you used a power tool... Showing mistakes and all the steps to make this vice - and all that without a lot of talk and without some funky music. Thank you!
No wonder this guy has massive forearms! To think people pay money to burn energy these days when you can just do some real work! Great job on the tail vice. I enjoyed watching it come together in half an hour but I can definitely appreciate the amount of work you put in to it.
Stavros There is no doubt for everyone that you are a master craftsman. I'm not sure from what country you are sending the videos, it's sure no US even though you have a few tools from the US. Great work on the vise but if used a few shims between the steel plates you could have saved yourself a few hours of endless filing... It was almost a sin to see you shortening that long screw, I would have made the tail longer... but that's me. Thanks for the video.

@ the 1:29 mark I got stuck on the anvil's cameo appearance - what a beauty. Looks like an awesome modification of a piece of rail.
Wonderful Zen. Beautiful work. And very much appreciate the fact of no obnoxious music.
Masterful craftsmanship. This will not only last generations, it's something that will become an heirloom to your family. A joy to watch.

@@metamech7383 the sound of the tools is soothing to me.
