I thought this had been the official story, too, since it was in one of the post-Phantom Menace novels that Obi-wan carried Qui-gon's lightsaber for a while before he built his second one. I think it makes the connection between Anakin and Qui-gon even more special that Luke would ultimately redeem him him through a duel using a lightsaber that was virtually identical to Obi-wan's but with Qui-gon's green crystal, in effect meaning the three most important men in Anakin's life - the Master who was a father figure, the mentor who was a brother to him, and his own son - were all part of his redemption from the Dark Side.
In the classic EU, between ESB abd ROTJ he visits Bens old house, and finds a small machine for making replacement lightsaber crystals, as well as a datapad on how to use it, then proceeds to spend several days in meditation guiding the crystals growth so its flawless before cutting it to fit into the tool of a Jedi.
I actually like Luke’s glass crystal that he had to make on Tatooine. But that’s old legend stuff. Because of the synthetic nature of this crystal, it would’ve been extra extra powerful like a deep core Sith Lord blade. I love the story and amazing channel.
@@nathanchun4880 I’ve never heard of that, but I can’t eliminate the legendary possibility. Either way that is certainly better than the canon version.

In Legends, force users can create artificial kyber crystals using the Force and a geological crystal forge. The red crystals were usually created & used by Sith and fallen Jedi. Luke found instructions on how to both create artificial kyber crystals and light sabers buried under Ben Kenobi's desert dwelling, and that's how he made both.
Just have to say that I am glad they're bringing more and more Legends lore into Canon. With their current movie and show writers being completely inept - that the Storyboard is taking things from the old writers is a wonder thing.
As someone who doesn't read the comics, this was great. Please give us more of these nuggets from the comics and the books. I've read some of those, but not in a few years.

I am trying to unite the old legends (the solo kids) with the parts of the new canon I like as for example Rogue One. :) I tried to like the sequels but they made some decisions I didn't like. For example I am not a fan of killing the Skywalker bloodline and the subplot with the debrise of the Death Star II felt a bit to much Indiana Jones for me. Also that part where Rey and Kylo seemed to be able to breach spacetime continium. Also felt a bit crazy to withold the information both on how Kylo got hold of Vader's helmet and Maz got hold of Anakin's saber.
The white one is a possibility, due to him keeping the red one, but I can't see a purple one. Yes he has a similar proclivity to either side like his father, but other than the cloned emperor series (And he was force tricked into it) he's never once ever moves that way. Mace Windu got his purple one, as a gift from someone on his home planet, it wasn't made and I believe this is canon. There hasn't yet as far as i know ever been someone that has made a legit purple one
I'm really sick of this new canon about Luke's kyber crystal. The deleted scene from ROTJ and the text from SOTE were perfect the way they were. Why is there such a wealth of kyber crystals throughout the galaxy that the Empire has not discovered or claimed? It makes sense that Luke had to forge his own crystal like the Sith did (in the old canon) because the Empire had access to the Jedi archives and would have hoarded or destroyed the crystals to erase the legacy of the Order. Now Luke is talking to crystals through meditation and acting like their career advisor. When Luke created his crystal in Ben's hut over the course of weeks the effort nearly killed him, now he's taking a day-trip to crystal-land and looking at some weird crystal scientist's wares like he's at a Costco. The Yuuzhan Vong needs to pay a visit to Disney.
Well one of the main reasons is that synthetic crystals don’t exist in canon because the Sith method was changed the “bleeding” the crystals. Besides we’ve already seen places littered with Light Sabers such as the Planet of Malachor in Star Wars Rebels so it isn’t impossible to assume this guy got the crystals with places like that.
I loved Star Wars so much as a kid I had is on an album and listened to it on a phonograph. They did not have VHS movies yet so if you liked one you went to the record store and purchased an album of it. I could repeat every word spoken in the movie. Can't do it anymore but back in the late 1970s it was easy.
I seem to recall that luke used a synthetic crystal because finding kyber crystals in the wild was impossible because the empire over mined them. Then he found it in obiwans basement next to the skeletons of small people.
This is also the issue where Luke first gets the idea that there's a possibility that his father could be brought back from the dark side. This is taken up in earnest in Issues #42-#43. I'd like to see you do a video on that since it's an important part of Luke's character arc in Return of the Jedi.
Thanks for the video! That's the kind of deeper story complexities we need to be added to Star Wars productions. That universe is so rich, it deserves a super production TV series with many seasons. Like Game Of Thrones, but with a better ending. 🙂
Near the end of Empire: Yoda says "You must complete your training!" to convince Luke not to chase after his friends. Then, in RotJ, Yoda tells Luke, "No more training do you require." He knows he can no longer distract Luke with practice time in some skills. It is time for Luke to make a decision. Becoming a Jedi is not a matter achieving a certain skill level, or completing a course of classes. It is not a college degree. The skills practiced are an avenue to deepen the connection with the Force. It's not just running, jumping, and flipping; it's opening yourself to allow the Force to flow through you to accomplish these things. The lightsaber. It must be constructed with an understanding of how the power flows through it in the most even and efficient manner. It takes a deep understanding and connection to the Force to see how to connect and align the components to achieve that. That's why two Jedi will construct different lightsabers even though they start with the same components. Even off an assembly line, the purity of the metal in a wire could be different in this batch. The miniscule deference in the power supply output could require a great change in the emitter. Which facets of the crystal should the energy pass through? To know these things requires a great connection to the Force. This is why Vader recognized his SKILLS were complete by constructing his own lightsaber. It showed Luke's connection to the Force was at that level. Now, it was time for him to make a DECISION, and join him on the Dark side. Or not.
In the pre-disney EU, Luke went back to Obiwans hut before ROTJ and discovered an old furnace/machine for rapidly growing a crystal, and spent several days in meditation guiding its growth. He also found writing that indicated it was a normal accesory during the clone wars so if a Jedi lost their saber they could craft a crystsl to build a new one. None of that bleeding nonsense.
This more of that Disney added BS messing with the lore again?? ISNT it said that green crystal came from Qui Gon or a whole new one??? An either way isn't just about most or all the natural saber caliber crystals one can get an use basically older then the order as a whole given how long it can an often pretty much does take for a natural crystal of any kind to form??? Something measured often in centuries and longer.
Would have been more satisfied with luke finding qui gons lightsaber and using that crystal to power his blade, it would have been poetic having luke strike down vader with the blade of the man who freed him and started this whole mess. The idea is very “samurai” in nature.
Its interesting that lightsaber crystals seem to have some personality and or soul. I guess its something along the lines of the crystal choose the force user. If it doesn't it doesn't choose the Force user. The connectivity will not work as well. The force is an energy of connctive tissue. Both in the structure of everything in the Star Wars universe. As well the inhabitants of said universe. So it makes sense for the crystals who choose which force user they connect with. Because they like everything else in the Star Wars universe. The force connects it all.
I have doubts about this. The novelization of RotJ established Luke as constructing a lightsaber using materials from Obi-Wan's workshop on Tatooine. It's also a deleted scene. I get it. They want to keep making money from the franchise
