Thanks for sharing your experiences. My son is in fed at Marion and it gives me an idea what he's up against. As for the withdrawals and sugar craving, alcohol is basically fermented with sugar. As an alkie myself, I hated sugar when I drank but craved it when I sobered up. That was 35 years ago after a stint in county with state hanging over my head. Hope neither of us ever has to go back! Blessings to you.

Awhile back I was going to see my PO after violating probation. I had a dream the night before. It was all black and all I could see was a pair of handcuffs. The next morning I wore sweatpants, a tank top and a sweatshirt/hoodie. My man at the time asked why I was wearing a sweatsuit in the middle of Texas summer. I said "better to be free and sweaty than locked up and freezing" and wouldn't ya know..I was taken to jail. 3 days in the holding cells. I had girls keep asking me if I knew I was coming cause they were in tanks and shorts freezing their nips off. I said "nah, I had a dream and I never doubt my intuition." BOY WAS I HAPPY I DRESSED THE WAY I DID. I had a pillow if it got too hot.. and I was nice and toasty in those cells. Plus, I was lucky enough to have my case dropped by the judge. HALLELUJAH, GOD IS GOOD. CAN I GET AN AMEN?

During active addiction the brain can get so used to creating dopamine through the use of outside substances, such as drugs or alcohol, that it may actually stop producing it in a natural way. When a person gets sober, this process does not immediately return to normal, but it takes some time, and this is where a person’s sugar addiction goes far beyond a simple 'sweet tooth'.
Since the brain is not producing the usual amount of dopamine in the beginning of sobriety, any amount of sugar that is consumed provides a semi-euphoric feeling, or at the very least a release from the lack of dopamine in the system. Since most addicts and alcoholics are creatures of comfort, getting this relief can create a scenario where the person learns that sugar makes them feel good and so they reinforce this habit. If taking place subconsciously, the symptoms created by the brain unknowingly craving sugar day after day, cause the road of sobriety to become much more difficult.

  • @Knoxerboy101
    @Knoxerboy101 6 лет назад +7

The reason why people going through opiate withdrawal crave sweets and nothing else is because sugar and chocolate release many more endorphins than most regular types of food, so your body will more naturally crave it to try and make up for the lack of endorphins you're now experiencing. It honestly doesn't do much of anything to stop the withdrawal, but at least you're not starving to death, because it is near impossible to eat when WDing.
Honestly, for many users, it isn't the high that keeps them using, it's the fear of withdrawal. I know plenty of users who don't even feel anything when they dose, they simply do it because it stops them from feeling like their body is dying.

Hey man, love your channel and I'm proud of the man you're becoming here before our eyes. I've been blessed that I never got caught doing dirt except when I was a minor. But I could have very easily found myself in Canadian max had I been pinched up for the dirt I've done.
I have worked with people with addictions and have wrestled my own demons and so I wanted to answer your question about candy cravings from my experience. 1. Alcohol is technically a sugar so it helps with cravings. 2. Drug use depletes the neurotransmitters that allow us to be feel things like happiness, contentment, joy etc. Sugar helps to elicit those same neurotransmitters that substance use depletes and so not only do the candy habit help people deal with cravings but also to elicit those neurotransmitters they're burned through using dope. Hope that helped. Keep it up, Death. I love the movement you created and the opportunities and solid things you do for former convicts. Plus ya got me saying Jank again. Much love. You take guests from Canada? My bro did a 3 year bit for armed robbery and is struggling to find his place on the outside. He's an amazing musician and writer and has some intense stories. I recently got him into a your show and he's hooked in. Vega is a dope name. Tarantino characters Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction) and his bro Vic Vega (Mr. Blonde Reservoir Dogs)

the reason someone in withdrawal would want candy is 1. it is impossible to stomach just about anything and 2. their dopamine/seratonin levels are so low they are craving sugar as a way to increase them. i have gone through heroin withdrawals in jail twice, but methadone is a lot worse which i've done 3 times. it just never ends and you just don't eat and don't sleep and feel like you are barely alive and in pain all over and really cold but also really sweaty and depending on the jail you probably aren't gonna get anything to help. the 3 times i did methadone withdrawal they just gave me 1 cup of gatorade a day........

I'm a recovering alcohlic so maybe I can shed some light. Alcohol is made from the breakdown of sugar with no oxygen present, aka fermentation. Your body actually doesn't recognise much of a difference between alcohol and sugar, so when you get sober your body tries to adjust to the lack of alcohol by giving you sugar cravings.

But everyone experiences withdrawal differently so I would never doubt anybody who says they're going through hell bc in their experience it is.

Being honest here, until I discovered this channel, I was done and over the prison themed channels, as they were done to deaty, and I doubted their integrity overall. This channel, I am really liking in it's current state. I'm not an ex-con, or felon, or anything, but I enjoy seeing examples of people turning their life around FOR THE BETTER. Seems like it worked out very well for Mr Death here, and that's awesome. I was stationed out near Virginia Beach, and I absolutely loved it there. Made frequent trips to fuck around and catch concerts there.

I'm a retired CO and I've seen it all. I've worked max, medium, pre-trial, seg. In Alaska, pretrial is where booking occurs. If you were cooperative, which most people were, we'd let you get the numbers out of your cell phone. We issued underwear, socks, tops and bottoms and felony flyers. No shower shoes. You had to buy your own on commissary or grab a pair someone left behind. We also issued a blanket, two sheets, a pillowcase and a towel. You would get to see a nurse pretty quick during the day, but they only worked 12 hours shifts from 0700 to 1900. No night nurse, as we were a very small facility (about 100 prisoners). So if you came overnight, you'd see the nurse in the morning. Alcoholics were immediately transferred to Anchorage, where they could have 24 hour care in an infirmary. Drug addicts were treated in house. Trouble is, if you were on probation or parole, you denied using drugs, so you'd have a really rough time, because you didn't want the PO to know you were using. But we'd find out anyway. I worked for the Security Sgt and one of my duties was to monitor phone calls. My two emphasis areas were segregation and intake, where new arrivals were housed. I'd hear the druggies whining about their withdrawals and I'd notify Medical and their PO. The thing is, Medical wouldn't do anything until the prisoner asked for help. I'd still notify Medical just to cover our side of the house. In our system, coming to jail all bruised up was no big deal, as we don't have the turf wars more common down in the lower 48. As far as covering vents is concerned, I only had a problem if you covered up a camera or a speaker. I never got hung up about covering vents or deflecting the air flow. We only had three holding cells and one of them was against an outside wall. In the winter, it was freezing cold in there. If you were a management problem, that's where you went. It was informally referred to as "cold storage". One holding cell was reserved for females and the other for those who weren't causing any problems. To us, it was the fairest system. Even prisoners can understand that kind of rational. But, that's all behind me now.

I know personally from meth and heroin withdrawals, the reason for sweets is because your taste buds are all messed up and all real food takes on a weird flavorless quality to it. And smell. I've made baked mac n cheese, one of my favorite meals, and I had to throw it away after one bite. It was that bad tasting to me at the time. Sweets, yogurt stuff like that is the only food that still tastes the way it's supposed to when your very addicted or withdrawlong from drugs and meth. I also think sweets are one of the only things that gets your endorphins firing off when your withdrawing.

Opioids/heroin raises your blood sugar while you're high which makes people enjoy candy/carbs more and the accompanying drop in blood )sugar when it begins to wear off and you (eventually) go through withdrawal causes people to crave sugar. Not to mention eating sugar can cause the release of dopamine as well as endorphins/endogenous opioids (especially if you're used to eating a lot of sugar), which is another reason people like to eat candy during withdrawal.

You can't judge one inmate by another or even the majority! It's like judging an entire race by one. There are people who are not guilty in there too - they do exist. DNA coming into existence would prove this, we even put innocent people to death that DNA would prove to be innocent! Our system is the problem! Locking up addicts vs substance treatment is wrong! Placing non violent offenders with violent offenders is wrong and ignorant. Them people behind bars are someone's loved one and sadly when locked up they find they had no true friends or family when they never get letters etc. A real mf won't abandon you! Our system is not the only problem but most things start at home! We have break down of families, most marriages ending in divorce and a lot of those leaving children with one parent absent or two fighting! You got grown ass adults/parents using dope with their kids - meth, heroin - just sick! Another let's look at MANY GUARDS - smuggling drugs and many illegal items in! So criminals to watch over inmates? We have lost morals in America, in the free-world few show others respect and it should mean something to people today! However, people rather pass judgement among others not even knowing them or a damn thing they been through which helps no-one. People need to fix their own flaws before trying to fix another's. We as a society should give a fuck how prisons are ran "structured, criminal guards fired and prosecuted, prison reform, inmates to be treated like humans and be expected to act the same or go to lock-down, give them respect when they are earning it, offer educational courses" - because when released to society which do you think would be most likely to know how to act, make it on the outside...the one's that were transitioned to do so!!!

As a former day to day user of Heroin, and then a day to day user of Methodone, (and having kicked *BOTH* ) in the end, the hardest part was the psychological.
I had to try, _TRY_ to will myself and teach myself how to find joy in anything I once found joyful or even mildly pleasant, or even merely _entertaining_ in life.
To find happiness to learn happiness and even other emotional responses to things in life.
I had to _learn_ to get over things _without_ using an opiate to *numb* the pain and misery, or even minor irritations away...
Methodone was like that but WORSE because you psychologically and physically agonize even more. That *pain* that *ache* you cant quite place that spreads tgroughout your veins with every heartbeat is *way* more intense.
I did around 1.5~ G/day (was gettimg a decent deal at 80 bucks for a G but still...) I smoked all my savings and income to the dome and puffed that shit away.
But the one withdrawal i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy is *alcohol* withdrawals.
The shaking, sweating, tremors, sheer fucking *PANIC* and anything else mental _on top_ of anything else physical requires medication to stabilize you.
The physical withdrawal alone (esp if you spent a decent length of your life _being_ the liquor) and the fact alcohol is IN. YOUR. FACE. everywhere you go is enough to drive someone mad with the joneses. 😬😬😬
At least the physical withdrawal I experienced from smoking black was 3-5 days tops and was surprisingly mild.
    But alcohol? Fuuuuuuck... 😞
The physical withdrawal has ppl soaking their bed down to the box spring with sweat. The spasms and nightmares Among other shit. Its fucked. It is *fucked* 😬
So glad I never got into that rotten stuff. Chasing the dragon was bad enough. Embibing, habitually mind you, in spirits then having to quit?
Thats a living hell you couldn't pay me with all the heroin in the golden triangle to experience. 👹

I remember one case where the jail dr gave an inmate a large dose of Thorazine by injection and the correctional officers tied the guy to our stretcher with heavy duty rope. Made it a bit tricky to apply the heart monitor electrodes and start the iv, and they sent two officers for security, ours. He had really flipped out. I cannot recall if the er dr we communicated with instructed me to administer 5 mg of Valium by iv push though.

It's because, sugar hits the opioid receptors and dopamine receptors, the same way opioids do. Triggers the release of endogenous opioids (endorphins) and dopamine (pleasure chemical).
